What one word do you find almost impossible to pronounce/say?

Mine's narcissistic. I pride myself on being reasonably eloquent, but that word has me beat.

Thankfully not a word I find myself needing to utter very often. Just as well, as it takes me about 32 attempts before I stop sounding like Arkwright in Open All Hours.

Pharmaceutical

Is it cue tickle
Or soo tickle

Farma Sue tickle
Like pharmacy is farma see. I've heard the 'cue' mispronunciation on radio4 and can never understand how that arose.

FinanceLPlates · 30/09/2023 09:11

segue - apparently pronounced like Segway, but it feels so wrong!

also “months“

Freshpanic · 30/09/2023 09:14

Sepulchral. Drives me nuts. And I have to read it aloud in front of a group of young people several times a year (am a teacher).

GG1975 · 30/09/2023 09:19

Squirrel
Bartholomew

greenhydrangea · 30/09/2023 09:21

Celtic. Just can't remember how, every time.

NothankyouNigel · 30/09/2023 09:24

Celebrity - my tongue wants to say celebritery every time.

ImprobableJesters · 30/09/2023 09:25

Zoology. My brain goes into a panic scramble about whether to add an 'ology' or not.

Topiary. I cannot stop myself pronouncing it as 'toe-pie-ary' even though I know it's not right.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/09/2023 09:29

I can't think of a specific word that always gets me, it's more that sometimes especially if I'm tired I'll get lost somewhere in the middle of a long word like phenomenological.

Bemoreme21 · 30/09/2023 09:35

Gastroenterologist. Too many syllables!

cushioncovers · 30/09/2023 09:37

Tragedy

WaitingForSunnyDays · 30/09/2023 09:37

"Digital" for some reason about half the time, particularly when tired or had a couple of drinks. Didn't help when I worked for a company with that in the name and people at a party would ask who I worked for.

ShowOfHands · 30/09/2023 09:38

Butcher.

Come from Derbyshire and my Dad drilled it into me when we moved that I needed to sort out my flat vowels to stop people bullying me (struggling to settle in). I have a neutral accent I've been using for the best part of 40 years but can't manage "butcher" at all. I simply can't work out how to say the u.

Enko · 30/09/2023 09:39

It's not that I can't say it but for some unknown reason when I need one I can never recall what a dustpan is called. So I end up asking for the thing that goes with the broom.

StopFuckingTouchingMe · 30/09/2023 09:44

Even though I know the difference, I always confuse brought and bought when I say them out loud. My brain just cannot get it right.

FOJN · 30/09/2023 09:46

Another one for remuneration. ReNuMeration just sounds better.

Threewordseightletters · 30/09/2023 10:02

I have to take a running leap and big breath to say innovative

friggingnora · 30/09/2023 10:08

Mine is mall. As in a shopping mall. I see it as an American word and don't know how to say it in an English accent.

I know how to say The Mall, as in London. But it sounds wrong to say it like that. Rhymed with hall sounds ridiculous. A weird in-between 'moll' also daft. How do you say it?

BlackeyedSusan · 30/09/2023 10:14

Phenomenon

Specific
