Mine's narcissistic. I pride myself on being reasonably eloquent, but that word has me beat.

Thankfully not a word I find myself needing to utter very often. Just as well, as it takes me about 32 attempts before I stop sounding like Arkwright in Open All Hours.

Wimbledon

Strategy , something about the initial sound I have to say quite slowly and deliberately I almost always stumble on it if I'm mid sentence which given my actual job title includes the word strategic (which oddly I find easier to say), isn't ideal.

Trajectory. Used to have to say it a lot in meetings with our students' employers and eventually just said 'pathway' instead. Much easier.

Like pp, I struggle with 'catastrophising' and it annoys me so much as I want to say it several times a day to DP because he does so bloody much of it😆

foreverbasil · 30/09/2023 08:12

Surprised nobody has said mischievous as so many people say miss-chee-vious. I blame Disney!

@Snorklette So sweet! My mum does it when we see one too 🤗

Oh, you've said the other word that I can't say, I've tried to use it a few times but it just does not come natural! Catofphrasizing? Catasstophresizing? Pah, whoever came up with that word was just trying to make us make a catastrophe out of it!

NooNakedJacuzziness · 30/09/2023 08:19

Apparel - had a job to spell it too!

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 30/09/2023 08:22

The only words I ever really have trouble with are things like names for medications which I've never heard of and have never heard said aloud. They crop up quite often on MN and I sometimes wonder how they are pronounced. It's often a question of where the stress falls in the word, rather than problems with the actual sounds. I'm a languages teacher, so pronunciation is something I very rarely find tricky.

anaesthetist

I struggled with that one until I started thinking "a-niece-the-tist".

For me it's minutiae.

MyCircumference · 30/09/2023 08:22

i always say renumeration but of course that is wrong

Magicmagician · 30/09/2023 08:23

Philosophical, just can’t ever put the emphasis in the right place, even saying it in my head now I can’t work out how you say it!

MrsCr0cus · 30/09/2023 08:23

I was smugly reading through and thinking what?? I can say all of those! Until I remembered that I'm never really sure how you're supposed to say February.

Slicedpeaches · 30/09/2023 08:27

encephalopathy
I've heard the c-e-p-h as 'sef' and as 'kef' so I'm never sure which is right, and then the whole ending I just stumble over.
I had to say Hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy multiple times in a presentation and I messed it up in a different way every time.
