What one word do you find almost impossible to pronounce/say?

Mine's narcissistic. I pride myself on being reasonably eloquent, but that word has me beat.

Thankfully not a word I find myself needing to utter very often. Just as well, as it takes me about 32 attempts before I stop sounding like Arkwright in Open All Hours.

Me too!

Due diligence because of my accent.

It comes out like Jew jiligence. I have to speak really slowly to avoid this 😁

Phenomenology. Which is awkward as I am a philosophy student and doing a module in it next semester.

I always stumble over “statistics”

Same! I’m a teacher and have to (try to) say it relatively often

Schedule.

I always take a split second to remember how to pronounce it (and I still don't actually know): is it SHED-ule or SKED-ule🤔

Having an American DH doesn't help matters as he pronounces it the second way and then I'm confused as to which is the British way!

To be fair it's just a different (but correct) pronunciation rather than you not being able to get your mouth around. (Like the word film that's also been mentioned on this thread. Fans of Why Don't You should surely accept fil-um!)

I use the "wrong" pronunciation for schedule too. Mostly because it got introduced to my vocabulary wheni was young working in USA. (Prior to that I'd have used 'timetable'. ) Now back in a Shed-ule world I can't shift my pronunciation as its too ingrained. (Well, mostly I don't use it with great frequency.)

Also on the pronunciation side of things I struggle with "proven". Not too sure how it's supposed to be said. Occasionally I hear someone say it differently to me. Haven't worked out if it's an accent thing or I just have actually been saying it wrong my whole life!!

Exponential.

I can pronounce it, but it always feels wrong. Like it should be expotential or exposential!!

OrderOfTheKookaburra · 30/09/2023 06:40

Entrepreneur/ entrepreneurial....

Can never bloody well get it right... I can read it fine, but if the word is not in front of me no chance.

Snorklette · 30/09/2023 06:44

Catastrophizing. Although I have no problem with catastrophe. Hmm

@CanIPutTheTreeUpYet my DD also always said ambliance. I loved it and still say it when she’s in the car and we see one Grin

Ammunition gets me sometimes.

DunderMifflinInc · 30/09/2023 06:46

Millennium. I mess it up every time. Even when I read the word I sound it out incorrectly in my head

The British is SHED-ule, hope that helps. 😊

Mine isn’t. I say skedule.

i cannot say preliminary without it coming out as two many syllables

Ventriloquist. I can't get past the first syllable.

Remuneration

Same! I know it isn’t renumeration but it always comes out like that! I think because I subconsciously feel like it should be renumeration because it’s to do with numbers and stuff …

NutellasKitchen · 30/09/2023 07:06

Gasped.
It comes up so often in the kids' melodramatic bedtime stories! People gasping the whole time! I usually go with 'gast'.

Joebloggs12 · 30/09/2023 07:12

My husband struggles with cinnamon. He says cimanomanomanoman, to try and hide that he cant say it. He also cant say Ibuprofen. 😆
