Are you using the "THANKS" feature?

TheShellBeach · 29/09/2023 12:58

I've had a few "thanks" for my posts, and have also thanked other posters.

I'm not sure it's being used much though. It's hard to tell.

Wouldn't it make more sense for the thanks to be visible to everyone?

I'm using it as I would the "like" button on FB.

FOJN · 29/09/2023 13:02

Not bothered about thanks received or given being seen by other posters but I like the opportunity to acknowledge a well thought out post or one that is particularly supportive to a poster.

Yes, me too. Thanks isn't always appropriate but 'I agree with this post,' is!

VeridicalVagabond · 29/09/2023 13:04

I use it if I see a post I think is funny or that I agree with, but have nothing in particular to add to it. Makes more sense to me than quoting the post just to say "this" or "lol"

I don't really understand why it needs to be visible only to you, but don't mind it.

TheShellBeach · 29/09/2023 13:06

I actually wish there were separate notifications for thanks.
I hate wading through all of them to find my thanks.

I think thanks isn't the right sentiment.

I think on most posts only the OP would be thanking any posters.

If it was a like or a heart- I would probably use it a lot more.

I feel its not something that would be used regularly.

I mean I don't feel the need to tha k people for posts. But do agree with a lot of posts. Just feels weird.

Clarice99 · 29/09/2023 13:10

I have used it, but have no idea how to find out if I've received any thanks.

Also, 'thanks' seems odd/inappropriate most of the time. 'Like' would be more appropriate imho.

TheShellBeach · 29/09/2023 13:11

I'd also be interested in knowing who had given me thanks.

I’ve used it to add support to particular posts and I like that it’s only visible to the recipient

MyJetNowAirlines · 29/09/2023 13:15

Nope

SM4713 · 29/09/2023 13:15

Never use it, nope.

headcheffer · 29/09/2023 13:16

I use the app so.... no because there isn't one

Clarice99 · 29/09/2023 13:16

@TheShellBeach

Thank you and 'thanks' given😎

You can see who has thanked you by clicking on the thanks button of your post that has been thanked. I'll thank your OP so you can see.

Yes, I'm using it. Sometimes to genuinely thank, sometimes as a like.

But I really, really, really don't think it should be made public. MN would become like reddit with its upvoting then. It's not a popularity contest.

Devilsmommy · 29/09/2023 13:22

Never used it myself but I replied on a thread to a woman who was having a really bad time and she sent me one of these thanks. I suppose it's a way of thanking someone specifically without having to write on the thread iyswim

BadBadDecisions · 29/09/2023 13:30

Never heard of it! I only use the app.

Crinkle77 · 29/09/2023 13:40

I don't see the point of it unless others can see how many 'thanks' someone has got.

itsmyp4rty · 29/09/2023 13:43

I don't use the thanks thing, if i want to thank people I write it on the thread. I'd much rather it was a 'like', public or not. I'm not bothered if certain people are known on here and so get lots of likes and I don't ever get any, who cares? I'd just appreciate being able to 'like' posts and thanks isn't generally the right sentiment.

Why do other people need to know you've been thanked?

Yes me too

Maddy70 · 29/09/2023 13:45

No. Its not on the app. And ots all a bit weird thanking people privately. Surely just a like/ emoji function would have sufficed.

I guess because as others have said they use it as a like button. I know it's not a like button but kind of feels like that.
