Are you using the "THANKS" feature?

TheShellBeach · 29/09/2023 12:58

I've had a few "thanks" for my posts, and have also thanked other posters.

I'm not sure it's being used much though. It's hard to tell.

Wouldn't it make more sense for the thanks to be visible to everyone?

Sometimes thanking a poster can be disruptive to the thread, especially if it isn't your own thread.
I think it is a nice feature.

Peachyscream · 29/09/2023 13:47

The thanks is an odd choice.
i use it as agree/well said(!) if someone’s worded things in a way that i couldn’t articulate.
also generally as a like button.

You can see who has thanked you by clicking on the thanks button of your post that has been thanked. I'll thank your OP so you can see.

Ha!
I didn't know that.
Many thanks.

I'm using it as I would the "like" button on FB.

Me too.

BIWI · 29/09/2023 13:20

Yes, I'm using it. Sometimes to genuinely thank, sometimes as a like.

But I really, really, really don't think it should be made public. MN would become like reddit with its upvoting then. It's not a popularity contest.

I don't think it's the same as upvoting on Reddit.

OP posts:
BIWI · 29/09/2023 14:04

No it isn't. But if you make it public, it will soon become like that.

Wishitsnows · 29/09/2023 14:06

I use it as a like button too

I can't bear Reddit so I never go on it, but does the upvoting mean that a particular comment gets pushed up the list until it's the first one?

I don't understand what upvoting is TBH.

Well, I've now got six "thanks" for my OP.

Yay me!

I have been wanting to use the "thanks" feature, but as it's new I didn't want to be the only weirdo thanking posts, so now I know others are using it I may do so 😆

DanceMumTaxi · 29/09/2023 15:02

I’m using it as you would a ‘like’ button too. I think it’s a good addition.

The thing is, you can only see when your own posts have received thanks, and when you've thanked someone else.

As far as the rest of it is concerned, someone might have sixty thanks, but nobody would be able to see that except the person receiving it.

Alstroemeria123 · 29/09/2023 15:03

I was using it but it doesn’t seem to work for me any more!

AutumnFroglets · 29/09/2023 15:04

I don't use it.

I never go back to a post to see if I'm thanked.
I don't have notifications set on my profile so I don't get notified if someone @ me either. It's very peaceful 😂

In what way?

I actually wish there were separate notifications for thanks.
I hate wading through all of them to find my thanks.

Wading through? Do people actually care that much?

Although don't know why I'm asking. I had to tell off 2 of my team over their bringing their likes war on Facebook to work. I'm not paid enough for that shit. Grown arsed adults actually caring about that stuff is weird.

BIWI · 29/09/2023 15:21

But why @TheShellBeach do you want this:

Why would you need other people to see that you've been thanked/liked for something?

TheShellBeach · 29/09/2023 15:07

In what way?

I press the “thanks” icon and it doesn’t seem to do anything - I just tried to thank the post of yours I’m quoting, but it doesn’t seem to have worked. It used to show me if I’d thanked a post.

To demonstrate that something was appreciated.

I can see no point in having a button which does practically nothing.

MN might as well just remove the feature altogether.

TheShellBeach · 29/09/2023 15:43

Wading through? Do people actually care that much?

The point is that thanks could have been given days after you've posted something, so you'd never know unless you looked at every single post you wrote. You can see the thanks in the notifications but not easily.

What I mean is that there isn't much point in having a feature that the recipient is not aware of.

OP posts:
BIWI · 29/09/2023 15:43

But it tells the poster that someone has liked their post, or wants to give them thanks. That's more important than everyone else seeing it, surely?

So what?

OstrichInPink · 29/09/2023 15:52

I wouldn't know as I don't go back to check

DanceMumTaxi · 29/09/2023 15:59

It tells you in the notifications.

975zyx · 29/09/2023 16:00

I’ve hit the button by mistake, it’s annoying. Though I agreed with the poster I thanked anyway so no harm done 😂
