State of the country, economic performance, moral rectitude of the government or lack of..
So if you are unhappy with the way the country has been governed, general conduct of the Conservatives, you’ll presumably not vote for them. They’ve had 13 years to improve things. 13 years to level up (Not just Johnson’s plan but Northern Powerhouse before that etc too) and very little has been achieved.
Or
Tradition, how you’ve always voted. Don’t trust the other side however bad your ‘team’ are. Even though your team may have been corrupt, deceptive, inept (Truss, Johnson) or wish washy, indecisive, uncharismatic (Corbyn, Starmer) you’ll still vote for the same party.
I’m interested in tribal politics. The next GE will be fascinating to see if the Red wall continues to crumble and the Home Counties drop their loyalty to the Conservatives….. What does it take to change your allegiance ?

If someone came up with a decent middle of road, sane, non-tory, non-socialist, non-batshit, party I would vote for them! I don't know, someone along the lines of the old SDLP, if anyone else remembers them?? Or even one nation conservatives....... we need more choice.

verdantverdure · 28/09/2023 12:57

StarDolphins · 28/09/2023 12:24

I hate Labour & I hate Conservative.

I don’t want to waste my vote though!

Well, what do you care about?

What do you think would be good for our country?

Who can win in your constituency?

Don't we have at least two of those? Depending on where you vote.

pharmachameleon · 28/09/2023 12:58

I'll vote anyone but SNP. I was going to vote Labour but the promised 20% price hike on education pledge has left me with only the conservatives. I suppose the conservatives recognise what a woman is so there is that.

Do we?? Who's that then?

Most likely I will vote for whichever party acknowledges that I’m a woman, not the kind with a penis.

I am sure yours will not be the only post in this, but just to point out, as I have done many times before...the 4 countries in the world that are doing the best for women in improving equality for women and closing the gender gap have all moved to more relaxed policies of gender self-ID. This is from the global gender gap index, a report that is cited by governments, health organisations and women's groups internationally. They have remained in those top 4 positions in the last years and have not dropped down, despite their introduction of these policies

https://www.statista.com/statistics/244387/the-global-gender-gap-index/#:~:text=The%20global%20gender%20gap%20index%202023&text=The%20global%20gender%20gap%20index%20benchmarks%20national%20gender%20gaps%20on,with%20a%20score%20of%200.91.

https://www.weforum.org/reports/global-gender-gap-report-2023/

So it would seem that doing well for women is not incompatible with the approaches they have taken for gender self ID.

Global gender gap index 2023 | Statista

The global gender gap index benchmarks national gender gaps on economic, political, education, and health-based criteria.

Street and violent crime, less taxes, mass uncontrolled immigration, better economy forecast. Taxes for billionaires and corporations. Overhaul of benefits system. Incentives for the middle class workers. Plans for integration to the immigrants country. Provide skills for immigrants in where jobs are needed. Much better than pocket money for millions.

My area is (was?) very much tories.

i won’t vote for tories because of a few reasons but mainly the binning of the kept animals bill.

I also don’t like Labour AT ALL.

Might vote Green Party.

verdantverdure · 28/09/2023 13:08

I understood that since about 1968 education was non profit in Finland from 7-16 since they renationalised the schools that were previously run by private providers.

And that the educational curriculum is the same for all children.

@3WildOnes?

verdantverdure · 28/09/2023 13:13

@StarDolphins Ot might be worth looking at a tactical voting site Herat the time and considering voting for whoever can stop the Tories winning.

I would vote Green from choice but there's no point in my constituency, it would be a wasted vote that I could better employ in blocking the Tory MP from winning again.

They promised us better animal welfare and environmental standards after Brexit and it was all lies wasn't it?

I just...

They've got to go.

So I'll use my vote to help get shot of my Tory MP.

At the end of the day, it's all any of us can do.

Isn't that Labour, Lib Dems and possibly SNP? Centre parties?

LlynTegid · 28/09/2023 13:15

The Conservatives may know what a woman is, but do little if anything to make women safer or in a better position in other ways. Rape has almost been decriminalised because of the low conviction rate and how many never get to trial, for example.

TidyDancer · 28/09/2023 13:16

Women's rights are my bottom line here so I won't vote for a party who peddle the lie that TWAW. I care about other things obviously - NHS being one of the main ones - but if they won't state basic biological facts and stand up against the VAWG issues they won't get my vote.

SkinnyMalinkyLankyLegs · 28/09/2023 13:17

Katharinablumwasinnocent · 28/09/2023 11:35

@SkinnyMalinkyLankyLegs rudsyfarmer hasn’t told me what my agenda is.
And it says a lot that posters cannot criticise the government without being accused of supporting Labour. Do you actually thing the last 13 years have been great ? I’ve had experience of crap Tory government and a Labour council so crap I vote Libdem.

For me, it's because of how strongly critical you were of one party (regardless of who they are) in your opening post. It came across like you were vehemently anti Tory and wanted an echo chamber of posters to agree with you as opposed to an open question whereby you were interested in hearing genuine opinions from all sides.

I'm not a Tory supporter, in fact I've went from being quite politically active, a lifelong SNP supporter etc to near on apathy, so it's not a bee in my bonnet that you dislike the Tories. But yeah, it does come across like you had an agenda in your opening post. Of course I can't speak for @RudsyFarmer but this is my take on it.

You’re right. I don’t think tories will get in though. Labour will & it will still all just be a shitshow.

I strongly dislike the Labour MP & councillor in my area (again related to animal welfare & wanting to cull the local wildlife while ignoring the real
issues that need sorting).

Hate tories too (have voted them in the past) for many reasons as well as my main reason for not voting them.

I will vote green but I feel it’s pointless but I just can’t bring myself to vote for the only other 2 in the running. They all lie imo.

Parky04 · 28/09/2023 13:33

First time that I will spoil my vote. Can't stand any of them.

Noname99 · 28/09/2023 13:44

DivingForLove · 28/09/2023 11:39

@Noname99 we are higher rate tax payers with access to private health who vote Labour because we believe in sharing the wealth. Only voting for self interest is a dangerous road to go down as we cannot live in isolation from the impact this has on our neighbours.

As I said in my post, there will always be millionaire socialists and poor conservatives but, in general, people - as proven by every demographics vs voting analysis shows - people vote for what they perceive is best for them & their families. Good for you that you can afford / are happy to pay more in to a system that you perceive will then give more to others. I’m honest enough to say, I’m voting for what I think will be best for my family and I’m not going to apologise for that.

i agree entirely with your last sentence but both groups would argue that from their POV. Just look at the recent threads in private school VAT.

@3WildOnes?

You are right that all education in Finland is non profit and and the educational curriculum is the same for all children. However, as I said there are still private schools in Finland. These can only charge for the extras offered as the education part is funded by the state. I have family who use private schools in Helsinki.
Most private schools in the UK are also non profit.

Damnloginpopup · 28/09/2023 13:52

I'm not voting.

I don't agree with a lot of labour policies.

Boris stood up and lied, repeatedly, to our faces and was supported by his party so I will not vote conservative.

GuffyTheDustBuster · 28/09/2023 13:57

As we don't have PR I will vote for the candidate mostly likely to remove the current incumbent.

Doubt if it will make any difference- the seats not been out of party hands for ever. My actual vote hasn't affected anything for 30 years.

But I won't not vote.

MintJulia · 28/09/2023 13:59

I would vote tactically. I'm happy to change 'tribe' depending on policy and whether I think the policy will ever make it to the statute books or not.

There are some fundamentals that go above politics - environment, women's rights and protecting the NHS being three.

I'm feeling politically homeless at the moment.

User19537876 · 28/09/2023 14:00

Well, it definitely won't be Labour

maisouimaisoui1 · 28/09/2023 14:00

I honestly don't see how anyone who has had any contact with the NHS in the last year - whether working there or being a patient - could vote Tory.
