What day for trick or treating?

I am trying to set up a facepainting business. I love in a communal area with loads of neighbourhood kids, who I've facepainted for free loads of times.

I'd like to offer my services for Halloween, set up my facepaint station outside my home, but this time paid. I just wondered what day all the kids will be going trick or treating? Halloween is on a Tuesday but will the kids be trick or treating on the weekend instead? When should I be offering facepainting? If I see any neighbours I will ask but I wanted to design my leaflets tomorrow so thought I'd ask on here for now, to get an idea.

Why would they go on a weekend? Surely Halloween is the only day for this

Malbecormerlot · 27/09/2023 22:48

Kids go out on Halloween, unless you live in Kilmarnock then it's the Friday before for some reason!
If anyone came to my door Amy other night they wouldn't get anything.

MummyDummyNow · 27/09/2023 22:49

Definitely on Halloween, that's the only day kids trick or treat.

Good luck, hope it goes well 🎃

A couple of my friends who have children aged 6 and under have said they are doing it at the weekend instead of on a school night? I dunno it confused me too

People will only trick or treat on Halloween. However I might also offer the service over the weekend (if it's worth your while to try it out) as that might also be taken up as a bit of fun - they might be going to a party or Halloween event.

Captainturbut · 27/09/2023 22:52

Good point about offering on weekend and Tuesday. I guess people might have Halloween parties at the weekend

Er, no

That's NOT the done thing at all

EquallyDetermined · 27/09/2023 22:53

Always Hallowe’en here, never at the weekend. They start as soon as it gets dark.

Dotcheck · 27/09/2023 22:53

Literally no one will be ready to give out sweets on an alternate day. Bonkers

Captainturbut · 27/09/2023 22:55

I have public liability insurance all sorted

Door won't be answered here if it's not 31st

Captainturbut · 27/09/2023 22:57

I also posted this question on a facepainters forum and everyone said do it on Saturday! I was like...eh? So of course I had to ask on here.

Trick or treating is 31st only! However, people will be having Halloween parties over the weekend, why dont you advertise for them? People come to you for faces done en route?

GoodVibesHere · 27/09/2023 22:58

I like halloween but I definately will not give out any treats unless it is actual halloween night. If anyone calls on the weekend before I will laugh and tell them they must've got their dates mixed up please come again on halloween.

Have always loved this wee quirk in Kilmarnock 😀 I had a friend from there who was very confused that the kids were all guising on Halloween itself!

Captainturbut · 27/09/2023 22:59

Good point about Halloween parties on weekends, maybe that's what my fellow facepainters were referring to

Trick or treating only on the 31st regardless of the day of the week. But I wouldn't pay for a face paint on a school night as it would seem like a waste to me to have it done, walk up and down our street and then wash it off for bedtime.

But I would possibly pay on a Saturday if it was earlier in the day and I was going to a Halloween party/event.

Sugarfree23 · 27/09/2023 23:10

31st only, bit like Hogmanay/ New Year's Eve, Halloween/ Hallows Eve doesn't move.

Kilmarnock folk are weirdos!

00100001 · 27/09/2023 23:39

On Halloween. Tuesday.

It's not the same as fireworks night etc.

Rainbowshit · 27/09/2023 23:42

Only ever on actual Halloween unless you live In Kilmarnock.

Rockschooldropout · 27/09/2023 23:45

Professional face and body artist for 17 years here - You’d be better off posting on local Facebook pages offering face painting appointment slots at the weekend for those wanting to go to parties .. make sure you have adequate PLI and are using professional water based face paints , I’m sure you have this covered already
people are unlikely to pay to have their kids painted just to go out trick or treating .
The parties where people will want a “wow” factor face will be largely weekends .
I only do paid bookings but used to do appointment slots years ago x

tennine · 27/09/2023 23:48

Why would you be setting up outside? That would put my off paying for your service tbh.

Captainturbut · 27/09/2023 23:51

I might advertise facepainting for any parties on Saturday, by appointment only, and then set up on Tuesday for kids to come along if they fancy it, maybe at a cheaper rate as it's a school night

How much do you charge?
