What day for trick or treating?

I am trying to set up a facepainting business. I love in a communal area with loads of neighbourhood kids, who I've facepainted for free loads of times.

I'd like to offer my services for Halloween, set up my facepaint station outside my home, but this time paid. I just wondered what day all the kids will be going trick or treating? Halloween is on a Tuesday but will the kids be trick or treating on the weekend instead? When should I be offering facepainting? If I see any neighbours I will ask but I wanted to design my leaflets tomorrow so thought I'd ask on here for now, to get an idea.

The other thing to note is normally I will only pay for face paint when we're at an event (fayre/food festival etc) where my kids can see lots of other kids walking around with their faces painted and they guilt me in to it. With your set up I think i could fairly easily distract them and wouldn't be up for paying any more than a few pounds no matter the quality.
It's one of those things that does take skills and costs upfront but I can't justify it when my kids will smudge it and I know it has to be washed off.

31st is half term. No school night.

Depends where you live. Half term is the week before in many places.

It's half term where I am Halloween week so people will so it on the 31st around here.

I honestly wouldn’t bother on Halloween itself and just do the weekend. Unless you have an area full of stay at home parents Tuesday will go something like this for me- get kids from after school club at 6, get home, feed them quickly, answer door to early kids, leave sweets at door, get them dressed up, head out by 7, back home bath, reading, bed and then flop. We just wouldn’t have time for face painting. They would love Halloween face painting at the weekend or over the half term before though.

Halloween is 31 oct

Like Christmas Day is dec 25

If someone knocked on mydoor and not 31 oct they wouldn't be getting any sweets

Pleaseme · 28/09/2023 23:23

I wouldn't bother offering on halloween; it's a school night here and who wants the hassle of washing it all off an hour later. Can you find out what's happening locally? We have a community party in a hall the Saturday beforehand and then a school disco the Friday after. I personally wouln't pay more than a couple of quid for face paint.

Literally no one will be ready to give out sweets on an alternate day. Bonkers

Untrue. Literally hundreds of children go guising on the last Friday of the month where we are. They even bus kids in from neighbouring towns!

We dont do anything on the 31st.

I agree about it being a rush when it's a weekday, mine were usually out the minute it got dark and back by about 6.30 for dinner (if they wanted anything after the sweets), I don't think they would have wanted to hang around getting their face painted. Parties are a much better bet.

LlynTegid · 29/09/2023 14:18

I'd wish none, but expect it to be the 31st.

Carsarelife · 03/10/2023 20:22

@FedUpMumof10YO
Not around here it isn't. We are back to school on 30th

Desecratedcoconut · 31/10/2023 11:21

I'm in England, we use to sing, usually songs with rude words, probably for the best they've fallen out of fashion.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 31/10/2023 11:44

If I were you I’d get a parent from the local primary school to put a WhatsApp message to say you’ll be doing Halloween face painting by appointment, from 3.30, or shortly after whenever the kids come out of school.
If they want it on another day for a party, they can ask.

Nobody who knocks here on any day but 31st October gets anything. But it’s only happened once - two hulking great teens with just masks on who told me they couldn’t come on the night, because they were going to a party.
Well, too bad.

CrowleyKitten · 31/10/2024 02:53

the 31st, obviously. it has a specific date, and that's when it happens.
I think having a party on the nearest weekend is okay, but trick or treating is only on the actual day.
