Yes! I've been wondering this too. Mind you, JKR's done the revenge baddie already in career of evil so he'll have to crop up in a different way presumably.

I’m wondering about the donations to the church. I was expecting a much more sizeable donation, more like “sell your house” levels, but £1000 was seen as very generous. Really? I mean, maybe it was to start off as a slow drip-feed of cash that then ramped up over time, but I thought that was odd. Also not sure how Robin managed to make the payment with no chequebook, bank cards, online banking etc available to her.

On the money aspect - what about people with financial responsibilities? Go into cult = quit job = stop paying mortgage? Maybe people with ties of some sort (family, job, finances) don’t get the week-long induction course and just attend temple until they’ve been brainwashed into cutting all ties in some way. Although the widow with the undertaker business was talking about selling it so must have been allowed some form of correspondence.

I thought that the church pretty much gave itself away by saying it would drop the child abuse charges for an apology and some money. Who strikes a deal like that when a child has been abused? Wouldn't have been up to the church whether a prosecution took place anyway.

I see Lily James as Nolli. I think she'd do an amazing job.

Ruth Wilson for Mazu is a great shout and
I can only see Dominic West as Papa J. He played a similar character in Stateless and he was excellent.

Lily James and Dominic West in the same production probably wouldn't go down well after the last time!

Tom Hiddlestone would be very good at creepy cult leader. He is getting much older looking when not in his Loki wig too. Sadly I think the mega marvel money probably means he is unlikely to do BBC crime dramas anytime soon. Also I imagine he would be loathe to attach himself to anything related to JKR, as he will be reputation managed to within an inch of his life (cough cough fake relationship with Taylor Swift cough cough).

I love TH but I'm not convinced about him in this role. One of his charms is that he's attractive in an unconventional way, sort of boyish. I think he's good looking but I wouldn't describe him as handsome. Papa J is pretty conventionally handsome, which makes it easier for him to charm lots of people very easily and command a room.

I think someone like a younger Martin Shaw.

Mainly because Judge John Deed could have persuaded me to join a cult.

I think Dominic West and Ruth Wilson (didn't they costar in something before? The Affair?) would be the best choices and they're about the right age. Isn't Papa J meant to be considerably older than Mazu?

Ruth Wilson is too beautiful and not pointy enough.

I don't know, she's one of those actresses who can look ridiculously beautiful or extremely plain so with the right makeup and wig and maybe a prosthetic nose she could be Mazu!

How about Sarah Parish? She can look quite severe

I wonder how are they going to show Daiyu’s death on the tv show? Even with cameras cutting away, or just implying what’s going on without actually showing it, there’s no way it won’t be incredibly distressing. There’ll be lots of trigger warnings before that episode!

Indeed @uuughhhshsh, and I wonder if they'll do away with the Jacob storyline too? That would be equally distressing.

Susan Lynch or Sarah Parish would've been great 10 years ago but are probably too old to play Mazu now. Isn't she in her early 40s as she had Daiyu at about 16?
