Great news on book #8 @MrsFionaCharming . I had it in my mind that Strike was going to be a 10 book series, although I don't know why.

FannyCann · 23/12/2024 15:58

I'm pretty sure she has said there will be ten books.
I wonder how long it takes to go from her finishing the book for it to go through editing, etc and arrive on the shelves.
I have annual leave at the beginning of May, no exotic destination planned, it's a week I like to potter in the garden and enjoy the beautiful wild flower season.
But a new instalment of Strike would be a perfect bonus for the week.

tribpot · 23/12/2024 17:36

Alas it looks as if there's normally about 8 months from the manuscript being finished to publication, @FannyCann - post about it on Strike-Fans

Running Grave - finished Feb 23, published late September 23
Ink Black Heart - finished Dec 21, published last day of August 22
Troubled Blood - finished Jan 20, published September 20.

Interesting - you would expect to want to get the airport/going on summer hols crowd but in fact it's always published more or less after the schools go back (esp in Scotland), although none of her kids are school age now.

Ah so now we know. Something to look forward to once the summer hols are over.

MrsFionaCharming · 29/12/2024 14:51

I think I’ll book a day of annual leave whilst the toddler is at nursery, so I can fully enjoy it in peace.

I am late in part listening/part reading The Running Grave, more than a year since it was out. I took off my specs to run down this page so I haven't read what you have all written. I will come back to read when I've finished it. I just wanted to say how much I'm enjoying it. When I read that Robin was going undercover I was imagining that it would be about her, there, and it's so good that I keep being allowed out to have a chapter out on the streets of London or keeping an eye on someone completely different for a while. Today, among other scenes, I've had Strike interviewing the man in prison, Reaney, and gently shaking his head at the big fellow on the next table, to tell him that he doesn't want Reaney beaten up, thank you - all available via Shanker's network if he'd wanted. I don't think they'll bother putting that little detail in an adaptation. I've also attended the interview with the merry Norfolk couple and their friends and I've been to church with Strike to sit quietly for a while. I like the fact that he's thought that he's had about half of his life so far, so what about the next half.

Yes to Kyle MacLachlan!!
Or Ciaran Hines.

I've been wondering who they might choose to play Papa J. See how I've been brainwashed into using his sweet, comforting title?
I don't know this Kyle MacLachlan so I'll go and google him.

Did JK do this deliberately? S and R were eating cold food in the car. S was talking about Kevin's wall messages and the Mansons.
R: 'You're kidding?'
S: 'Yeah. "Death to pigs".'
Having finished two pork pies................................

Rafe Fiennes maybe - he did an excellent job as Commander Waterford in Handmaid’s Tale.

£25.91?!?!?

The initial cost is always ridiculous but the pre-order guarantee means you'd actually pay a lot less once it is released.

I always have to wait longer. I really dislike reading hardbacks - especially the tomes that JKR writes - so won't read it until it's out in paperback next year!

That Bijou on a wall but certainly did something. 🤤

It gave him a very sore leg.

£15.00 on Amazon today for pre-order

EmpressaurusOfCats · 25/01/2025 15:48

I’m going to order mine from my local independent. I’d much rather see small bookshops getting the cash!

Disclaimer: I know a lot of places don’t have independent bookshops.

MorrisZapp · 24/10/2023 14:58

Oh hell no do I want to hear about Strike seductively removing his lower leg. I'll take dot dot dot, thank you very much.

We saw him lying on his back with Chiara. I don't even need that much with Robin. Less is more.

2Rebecca · 25/01/2025 22:47

I'm not sure I want Robin to end up with Strike. The current man is just another Matthew if more handsome and should be ditched asap but strike seems very limiting as a husband. He has no hobbies is a workaholic and lets his prejudices interfere with his job. He should have been far more suspicious of the killer than he was but he fed them clues and didn't treat them like a suspect. He says he is good at his job but Cherie wouldn't have died if that had been true.

2Rebecca · 25/01/2025 22:50

I'd love Kyle McLachlan as Papa J. I love Blue Velvet. Keep watching for someone putting it on the TV as it's my favourite Lynch film
