What’s on the menu?

We are having slow roasted lamb shoulder with lemon potatoes and a Greek salad - in fond memory of our fabulous summer holiday.

Would usually be a Sunday roast, but decided to have chicken fajitas instead. Will do them with some rice and veg on the side.

Eminybob · 24/09/2023 14:10

Roast rib of beef with merlot gravy, braised red cabbage and Yorkies.

🤤

Neekoh · 24/09/2023 14:11

We're not having a roast today as we had roast chicken on Thursday.

I don't know what I'll do yet, though - either a chicken soup/stew-type thing with garlic bread sticks, or pasta with ragu. There will be freshly baked apple and gooseberry crumble for pudding, with custard.

Slow cooked lamb casserole with mashed potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and lots of green veggies. Starving.

SM4713 · 24/09/2023 14:28

Roast pork leg with crackling with home-made apple sauce
Home grown runner beans, potatoes and courgettes
Carrots
Purple cabbage

Dessert is home-grown apple and blackberry crumble.

I have a glut of cucumbers and tomatoes currently, so if I could somehow shoehorn those in somewhere- then I would! 😂

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 24/09/2023 14:33

Pork chops, mashed potatoes, lots of assorted veg, apple sauce, gravy.

No roast, we had a roast chicken earlier in the week.

Daniki · 24/09/2023 14:35

Salivating over this post 😝 we're having roast chicken, roasties, garlic potatoes, stuffing, honey parsnips & carrots and randomly onion rings 😝 have a picky toddler so will also be fish fingers on the menu 😂 DH away to get something for dessert and a bottle of white. Its absolutely lashing down and windy, fires lit and Disney on, such a cosy day! ❤️

allthehops · 24/09/2023 14:35

Chicken cacciatore (batch cooked out of the freezer) with roasted new potatoes and veg.

I could smash a proper roast dinner but just cba to cook one for two of us, only bother when one of the kids is here for a weekend.

FuckingHellAdele · 24/09/2023 14:44

Roast chicken, with stuffing, roast potatoes, carrots, kale and green beans.

Apple tarte tatin for afters.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 24/09/2023 14:49

A big lump of pork shoulder, slow roasted with onions, apples, sage and bay in white wine. When I take it out to rest, I'll put the oven on max, cut the crackling off and chuck it in on its own to get properly crispy, and I'll blitz the apples and onions into a gravy with a touch of mustard.

Probably roast potato cubes as well, and cabbage.

Freshly baked apple pie and cream afterwards.

We're going to need this thread every Sunday till spring.

I think we'll make pasta because the hens are producing lots of eggs. I was thinking I might harvest a lot of the chard and spinach and herbs and mix it with ricotta for filling ravioli or what have you. My cunning plan is that if the kids help me they might actually eat it. But failing which I made a tomato sauce a few days ago that they could have on plain pasta.

I'm aware that much of what I've just written will make lots of people think odfod. But I really like growing and cooking and in my real life I could never actually mention this plan to other people because I would sound like a dick.

I think you sound great Smile

I was just looking at my miserable vegetable and rice 'bake' and then spotted some usable thyme and a few final ripened tomatoes outside. No-one else will ever as thrilled about this as me, ever.

ReadySalty · 24/09/2023 15:14

Schnitzel with tomato sauce, spaghetti and rocket on the side.

Cup of tea and Cadbury buttons for pud.

DanceToTheMusicInMyHead · 24/09/2023 15:22

All this food sounds amazing! I was planning a roast. I want a roast. But feeling rough as a badger's arse with COVID, as is DH. Hoping to muster up enough energy to make soup with whatever veg is in the fridge (think I have a cauliflower and leeks) and heat up some part baked baguettes, otherwise think it might be McDonald's...

Chelsea26 · 24/09/2023 15:28

DP and I are staying in Hitchin tonight so will be going out for dinner but every restaurant we’ve researched and fancied is closed on Sundays 😩
Dont suppose anyone has any recommendations???

Slow braised beef brisket, all the veg, roasties, and yorkies, followed by rhubarb crumble and custard. It's winter here today, so full-on comfort food.

We're having this crowd-pleaser. https://www.recipetineats.com/oven-baked-chicken-and-rice/
The whole family love it, and it makes brilliant left-overs for lunch tomorrow.

Oh, just book marked this. Sounds amazing and easy. Recipe Tin Eats is a brilliant recipe site.

Mmmmm, perfect meal!! Yummy!! 😋

Lndnmummy · 24/09/2023 15:51

Jerk chicken, rice & peas, corn on the cob, mac & cheese.

DS2 and I made a blueberry sponge cake earlier so that will be desert.

UsernameTaken76 · 24/09/2023 15:52

Have changed ours up a bit after all the inspiration on this thread. Minted lamb chops, roast tattles and parsnips, mashed swede, roasted carrot/onion/beets from the veg box and cabbage/leek/peas/corn with gravy finished with mint sauce. Oh not forgetting the yorkie puds.

Sticky Toffee Pudding and ice cream for pud later with mug of tea watching the rugby.

DandarinaMuck · 24/09/2023 16:02

We've had salt cod fritters with roast pepper & tomato sauce. Chicken done on the green egg rotisserie to follow, with patatas bravas and broccoli to follow. Nice treat as my father is in a bad way & cooking is taking our minds off it.

lollipoprainbow · 24/09/2023 16:15

Finishing off left overs from my cheese and wine soirée last night so crackers, cheese, chutney, coleslaw, dips and tortillas. Cheesecake and profiteroles can't wait !!
