When did your child start sleeping in their own bed?

My son (3 years old) is sleeping in his own room for the first time tonight.

Not because I asked him to, because he wants to.....he's especially fascinated with a moon lamp next to his bed.

So far we've slept in a double bed together.

It's bitter sweet to have him "move out".... so my question is, when did your little one start sleeping on their own?

Ours were in our room until about 2, then went into their own rooms initially but once they woke which was every night until, I don't know, 5 ish, they came to us.

It fizzled out slowly until they only were with us when ill, probably stopped completely around 8 ish.

Mine went into his own room the day we came home from hospital. There wasn't the guidance that they should be in with you back then and his room was next door and we could hear him. I had a chair in there to feed him and he went straight down afterwards. Because it was always his room he didn't know any different when we switched the cot to a bed and therefore there weren't ever any problems at bed time. Worked for all 3.

From about 6 months. They both slept better in their own rooms.

Mine were in their own rooms around 10 weeks. They've never not slept in their own beds unless ill or on holiday.

FluffyCloudsofShit · 21/09/2023 20:57

7 months with first and around 10 months with second.

Mum2jenny · 21/09/2023 20:58

One from around 6 weeks, one nearer 3 years old. I found it did depend on the child.

Simonjt · 21/09/2023 20:59

Our son was in with me until he was about 4.5, after that he moved to his own room, but if he woke in the night he would get in our bed. Our daughter is almost two and in with us. Our son often still gets in with us, he’s eight. He had to stop completely when our daughter was very small to keep her safe, so if he ended up in here in the night we would take it in turns to go and get in bed with him.

Makes me feel a bit better that some people started even earlier.

I know I sound a bit daft and that 3 years old is probably quite late anyway to start sleeping in your own bed, but it makes me a bit sad as well haha.

I need to give my head a wobble.

From birth, we never really co-slept other than a handful of short hours here or there in the early weeks with them both.

Ozziedream · 21/09/2023 21:03

In their own beds since birth. Own rooms since week 1 ds1 and week 52 ds2!

Rowgtfc72 · 21/09/2023 21:06

Dd went in her own room about 4 weeks.
Cot till she was 2 as she never tried to climb out. Cot bed from 2-4.

Queenfreak · 21/09/2023 21:08

I've only the 1. She co-slept fully until about 4, then started going in her own bed/room- though not out of choice!
At 6.5 years she sleeps in her own room most nights, but will come in with us if she's had a bad dream, or is feeling like she needs us.
She won't be doing it at 18 I suspect, and we all sleep well.

karmakameleon · 21/09/2023 21:10

DS3 decided to leave my bed and join his big brothers in their room a few weeks ago. He’s seven so I’ve been encouraging him for a long long time now but it’s bittersweet now he’s made the jump ☹️

Thepossibility · 21/09/2023 21:13

My first was in there before 6 months.
Second was in there about one but one of us had to lay there while he went to sleep.
My last still sleeps with me at just turned 4. This is mainly so the rest of the house can get their sleep.

301963Laurie · 21/09/2023 21:13

All in their own room from birth.Used a monitor for a few weeks. Had a chair in their room for nighttime feeds .

EquallyDetermined · 21/09/2023 21:15

In our room in a moses basket till they grew out of it and then into cots in their own rooms and on to beds. They never came through to us in the night unless they were ill.

Devilsmommy · 21/09/2023 21:21

StampOnTheGround · 21/09/2023 21:23

Hashtagihearya · 21/09/2023 21:24

Mine is 7 and still with me...he just asked when he's getting his own room!

PinkRoses1245 · 21/09/2023 21:25

From birth.

Tribevibes · 21/09/2023 21:26

My three never slept in my bed. Started off in Moses baskets, then cots then beds.

VariantHela · 21/09/2023 21:37

9 months old, and has slept better for it. Before that she was in one of those next to me cribs

ORYX99 · 21/09/2023 21:38

Mine is 4 and has never slept in his own bed. I'm a lone parent though and like the company. He knows he can sleep in his bed whenever he likes but doesn't want to.

Ankerdam · 21/09/2023 21:45

16mo still with me; in fact we've just attached a single bed onto our kingsize for the extra room. I don't plan on stopping till they either ask or we night wean, and i don't intend on initiating the latter either so it could be some time yet.

I hope you both get a good night's sleep tonight.

MrsJBaptiste · 21/09/2023 21:46

Moses basket in our room for 10 weeks
Cot in their own room until just before 2
Single bed from then on
