Bloody dogs everywhere!

AIBU to think there's been a substantial rise in dog owners in recent years?
I live by the coast with a fantastic beach and lots of nature to walk in so perhaps it's just my area and similar areas around the UK.

I am an animal lover including dogs but even I'm getting mildly annoyed with constantly having to dodge them on the footpaths near me. (I walk 3 miles every day to the gym). Some owners don't give a toss if another member of the public is walking towards them.

Dogshit everywhere.. It's an increasing problem here.. Not just dogshit.. but black bags of dogshit on the floor 😂

I suspect many of these dogs are not truly loved - They play in with the British obsession of 'showing off' to the world with designer brand named clothes and flash expensive cars on finance. These fancy expensive breeds are just for the owner to ponce around with outside and show off.

Can't stand the ugly types.. Staffies and bulldogs.. orrible demon creatures.

Completely with you OP, but this will not go down well on here!!

Bluevelvetsofa · 20/09/2023 17:31

I leave near the sea with notices everywhere indicating that dogs should be on a lead on the prom and not be on the beach . So many dogs are running around on the prom without being on a lead and they’re everywhere on the beach. If they are on a lead, it’s usually an extending one. What with that and cyclists and skateboarders, you struggle to walk along the seafront.

I grew up with dogs in the house and they were lovely, but agree there are a lot of them about now and it isn't great

My message just disappeared into the ether. Can't be arsed to type it again but just to say totally agree with you, sick of dogs and the entitlement of many owners.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 20/09/2023 17:37

The amount of dogs where I live doesn’t bother me but the complete twats who own them who don’t bother picking up after them. There is a narrow path near me where there is always at least one abandoned dog shit! Taking DD to school with a toddler in a buggy makes it really hard to avoid it because of how narrow the path is!🤬🤬🤬

samestyle · 20/09/2023 17:38

Too many, I live town centre not many parks or nice walks yet dogs in nearly every household at home barking all day in a built up area, don't understand it, bad quality of life for them and everyone that has to listen to it

MrsRachelDanvers · 20/09/2023 17:40

Too many! Especially cockapoos😆. I grew up with dogs and love them but they’re everywhere now and the entitlement of owners has to be believed. They also can’t train their dogs without the help of a ‘behaviourist’ nor leave the little darling on its own for a couple of hours-Oh Archie gets such dreadful separation anxiety…’. The breeding of poo bags hanging from trees has me seething. And not least, the local publican was driven out by a lynch mob of local dog owners because he tried to make the pub dog free.

That's the one!

I see them everywhere.. i didn't know the name of the breed until you said that and i googled it. Da Da!!

They are very cute, fluffy and aesthetic breeds.. No wonder they're popular.

If i were forced to get a dog it wouldn't be one of then. They're like the Burberry of dog
😂

I think dog ownership massively increased following covid and the rise in wfh. People wfh are able to have dogs now without getting dog sitters or dog walkers so more people are doing it.

Ionapussy · 20/09/2023 17:45

Agree, the school run is hard work as every third parent brings their dog and the paths are narrow so difficult to deal with people going both ways. Add in my dd who is mostly terrified of dogs it's a pain. Our school sent a message not too long ago asking people to leave dogs at home as so many are tied up to the gates which was causing a blockage at the entrance.

Babymamamama · 20/09/2023 17:50

OMG I read your title and thought you must live near me OP. But no it’s just endemic. I’m in a naice but build up city setting. People prance around with their fancy breeds which are badly trained, cannot be called to heel etc. It’s the jumping up on strangers I can’t tolerate. Not everyone’s a fan people.
Mix that in with some road men with their huge Bullies and it’s a toxic combo.

I honestly find this obsession with dog ownership baffling especially when people have no private outside space and their dogs constantly peeing across the pavement. All kind of consideration of others seems to lost on these new dog owners.

SkippySkip · 20/09/2023 17:52

1 in 3households have a dog. -I think that was on more or less on Radio 4 so should be right.

OneMoreStepAlongTheRoadIGo · 20/09/2023 17:52

1 in 3. Gosh

Dog owner here. Went to a NT property/ garden a few weeks ago. Signs everywhere saying keep dogs on leads. We came across 3 bounding about, running up to our dog etc. The pathetic “Sorry, he’s just excited!” doesn’t cut it. I just blank them now. I’m not making them feel better for flouting a very sensible rule.

WetherspoonsMondayClub · 20/09/2023 17:55

It's covid... That's why we're got many many more mobile shitting machines roaming around

Bloody dogs everywhere!

There’s an increase in very strong husky looking dogs where I live. They’re often walked by women who struggle to hold them back when they lunge at my small dog.

TheaBrandt · 20/09/2023 17:56

Am nearly 50 growing up only “doggy” families had dogs it wasn’t mainstream. Now it seems the norm. In our friendship group more families have dogs than don’t. I also
think there are too many.

BelindaBears · 20/09/2023 17:56

I have two big muddy paw prints on the arse of my coat right now from someone’s “he’s just friendly!” dog who was off lead despite having clearly zero recall and made a beeline to jump up at me in the park yesterday. I wasn’t jogging, I didn’t have a dog with me, was just a boring person walking along the footpath in a calm way and this dog still leapt on me. Shit like this happens more and more frequently and it’s making me hate all dogs.

GodDammitCecil · 20/09/2023 18:00

It’s less the dogs, and invariably the shitty owners who are at fault.

Pleasenowthatsenough · 20/09/2023 18:01

I went for a walk today and of course ended up stepping in dog crap. Spent 20 mins trying to get dried crap off my converse with a scrubbing brush, whilst also not spraying my face with it. Grim!

Also had the excited spaniel puppy jumping all over me whilst the owner tbf did apologise profusely but puppy was so badly behaved that I had to stop and let the owner walk on ahead to get the puppy away..

43ontherocksporfavor · 20/09/2023 18:10

I walk my dog twice a day and rarely see dog poo.

Coldbrewnumber2 · 20/09/2023 18:11

YANBU.
There are too many and lots that are not adequately trained.
Our local high street has as many ‘dog accessory’ shops and dog groomers as they do shops and barbers for people. Dogs are treated better than children here. It is madness.

eatdrinkandbemerry · 20/09/2023 18:12

My sons severely autistic and his real only trigger is dogs 😩.
They are everywhere now and even allowed in a lot of cafes and shops!

OhTheSilence · 20/09/2023 18:15

I used to enjoy going on hikes on my own but after a few bad experiences of aggressive off-lead dogs with no recall I won't take the risk.
