Bloody dogs everywhere!

AIBU to think there's been a substantial rise in dog owners in recent years?
I live by the coast with a fantastic beach and lots of nature to walk in so perhaps it's just my area and similar areas around the UK.

I am an animal lover including dogs but even I'm getting mildly annoyed with constantly having to dodge them on the footpaths near me. (I walk 3 miles every day to the gym). Some owners don't give a toss if another member of the public is walking towards them.

Dogshit everywhere.. It's an increasing problem here.. Not just dogshit.. but black bags of dogshit on the floor 😂

I suspect many of these dogs are not truly loved - They play in with the British obsession of 'showing off' to the world with designer brand named clothes and flash expensive cars on finance. These fancy expensive breeds are just for the owner to ponce around with outside and show off.

Can't stand the ugly types.. Staffies and bulldogs.. orrible demon creatures.

I love in a village, I'd estimate 20% have dogs. No dog poo issues and most dogs are kept on leads, I think mainly because you're never far from a road so not safe.

I work in a city centre and people walking dogs everywhere. This is very new, I'm not sure I would see any except the ones belonging to the homeless a few years back. It's good they're being walked and they are on leads but the only place to pee are the raised flower beds where people sit to eat their lunch, it's grim.

I also bike ride and regularly get chased by dogs. People just can not control them but when they're in a larger area away from traffic they don't care.

Agree with the little women trying to hold back 2 large dogs, bloody terrifying.

GodDammitCecil · 20/09/2023 18:23

Cockapoos - utterly ubiquitous. And I’m about as far from the UK as you can get.

darcymae · 20/09/2023 18:25

I am an animal lover but agree dogs are everywhere.

I was attacked by a dog when I was younger and I have always been cautious since but do like dogs.

I think all dogs should be walked on a lead when in public, so many times dogs will be off the lead and the owners will say " he dosent bite".

Nobody can guarantee that a dog wont bite.

Yep. So sick of me & the kids dodging dog shit on the way to school. Disgusting.
And the dickheads who block the paths with their big Rottweilers and then tie them up by the school gates.

I like dogs. But not everyone should own one.

It's covid... That's why we're got many many more mobile shitting machines roaming around

Starting to show your true colours now....

frisseaze · 20/09/2023 18:27

The cult of the dog. I agree. Far too many. Has really put me off them. Shit everywhere.

IDespairOfTheHumanRace · 20/09/2023 18:31

Agree OP, although it is entitled, lazy owners who get my goat more than the dogs themselves - I work for my local council as a horticulturalist/gardener and whatever I am doing, be it cutting grass, pruning shrubs or maintaining flower beds, you can guarantee that EVERY SINGLE FUCKING DAY, I get dog shit on me. We have no welfare facilities in our vehicles, other than bottles of water and handwipes, and I now carry not one, but two, changes of clothes with me every day as a neccessity, and I no longer bother to take a lunchbox with me - just can't face eating at work any longer. Grim, vile and utterly revolting.
And, as for allowing dogs into cafes, restaurants, pubs, supermarkets and anywhere where food is sold or served, words fail me - why do the wants of entitled owners trump those of us who want basic standards of hygiene around our food?

GreyBlackBay · 20/09/2023 18:31

It's the owners that are the issue, not the dogs.

But then it does be one the dog that's the issue because of the owners lack of care.

I love dogs and would be happy if everyone who wanted one was able to own and care for one, but they must train and control them.

Oh the cockapoo. The 'live love laugh' of dog breeds, the canine grey sofa, a wolf in Next clothing. Very popular atm.

Puts me off dog owners I should say...it isn't the poor dogs' fault that these oddballs are making monkeys out of them for likes

ThreeRingCircus · 20/09/2023 18:36

I agree there are too many. I grew up with dogs and always liked them but the amount of badly trained dogs, off lead with zero recall is making me seriously dislike them and it's not even their fault, it's their moronic owners.

Just today DH and I were having lunch in a café and a dog came right up to the table and started begging for food. The idiot owner was half heartedly calling it back and it was totally ignoring her. She could clearly tell we weren't happy so wandered over and said "oh he's really friendly." I'm so pissed off with that line being trotted out I just snapped "well we're not."

The entitlement of some people is astounding. We always had dogs when I was a growing up and would have never allowed them to just go up and bother other people. I do think all dogs in public places need to be on a lead.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 20/09/2023 18:38

Fabulous. I adore them.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 20/09/2023 18:40

Let’s hope they take over the world in a better way than humans have.

And they don’t like it when you call the little dear a crossbreed-or worse-a mongrel😆

foreverbasil · 20/09/2023 18:51

Agree. I was at the seaside last week. The whole promenade has been beautifully done up. A fortune has clearly been spent. All of it liberally plastered in dog shit ...infuriating and vile

Lovelynames123 · 20/09/2023 18:52

I've been saying this recently, I've had dogs in the past but not at the moment, and I like dogs, but I am so fed up them everywhere. Nearly 20 years ago my dog stayed home all day while I went to work, walked before and after, and was happy as Larry. Now people think they need to go everywhere. I own a cafe and have huffed many people because we're not dog friendly inside, although have outside seating and water bowls. We're very busy, the staff collide never mind if they were having to dodge dogs.

I've also had a recent realisation how disgusting picking up dog shit is, and then carrying a bag of it around! Did it for years but now it gives me the ick

vodkaredbullgirl · 20/09/2023 18:53

Yes 🙄 along with the hundreds of posts.

Your poor dogs 20 years ago, and thank god you don’t have them now.

Miniminiminimalist · 20/09/2023 18:56

At least people do pick up the poo! But yeah, the smell when a dog takes a shit up wind and then you watch the owner carrying it along the road with their hands behind their back with the shit bouncing off their bums. That is when I know I don't want a dog of my own 😂. But at least they've picked it up which is better than some owners.

WetherspoonsMondayClub · 20/09/2023 18:58

I'm going to be laughing tomorrow when i walk past all the cockapoo owners now 😂
