Last time you used cash?

Went to the ATM this morning, as needed to get some cash out for a club that DC does.
It’s the only time I ever need to use real money.

Do you still use cash frequently?
Does anyone (other than my parents 🙈) still use cheques??!

I gave ds a pound coin to put air in his car tyres last week as he never has any cash in his house. I pay the dog groomer cash every six weeks as she prefers it but generally I use card or bank transfer.

Drews · 20/09/2023 12:28

The pound coin that lives in the car for the trolley is the only cash I've used for several years now.

Ginmonkeyagain · 20/09/2023 12:33

Last used cash in early July when we had to get a cab in Paris in a hurry.

ManchesterLu · 20/09/2023 12:33

My grandparents always give me cash. I keep hold of it and use it at the petrol station when I fill up.

80skid · 20/09/2023 12:33

My cash is mostly pocket money and school snack money for kids. Also when they want to order something from Amazon or whatever, they give me cash. Other then that, I rarely use cash

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 20/09/2023 12:35

Always, I make a point of it.

FrenchandSaunders · 20/09/2023 12:35

Gardener and window cleaner prefer cash.

Also a collection at the gym the other day.
DH gets paid in cash quite often, so he often has a stash somewhere.
I mostly use applepay though

ZittiEBuoni · 20/09/2023 12:36

I tried to use cash on the way back from my holiday last week - the ferry has always been a useful place to get rid of the last few euros, but not this time. They've gone cashless Angry. So now I've got 15 useless euros in my purse.

This morning

Me too.

coxesorangepippin · 20/09/2023 12:38

Used it at a market last weekend

alloalloallo · 20/09/2023 12:39

I use cash all the time.

Last time was this morning - milk from the Co-Op and I paid my farrier.

I usually get cash out at the beginning of the week for minor spends as I find it easier to keep track of.

I haven’t used a cheque in years, but at work we deal with DVLA a lot and still have to use cheques for them.

needastrongoneagain · 20/09/2023 12:44

Yes, I do. I pay the cleaners and my hairdresser still only takes cash or cheques 🤣..

It can be a really useful budgeting tool too. It's seems so much more real when the cash is gone, appreciate that's psychological but it does seem to work.

ChristopherTalken · 20/09/2023 12:45

We have lots of places that don't take card for obvious tax dodgy purposes round here, so we normally have a tenners change floating about, plus a few quid in my bag for swimming lockers and trolleys.

Certainly cant remember the last time I used a note.....

Iamlikesorry · 20/09/2023 12:45

This morning, paid the dog groomer. At the weekend, bought a second hand treadmill. Yesterday, bought some books from a second hand stall at the community centre.

PinkBuffalo · 20/09/2023 12:53

This morning I use cash all the time

Hbh17 · 20/09/2023 12:53

About 6 weeks ago when I went into a cafe in a far-distant town and was shocked to find they didn't accept card payments. I had to go to an ATM to withdraw money. Otherwise, I can carry a £10 note around for the best part of a year, with no need for cash.

cocksstrideintheevening · 20/09/2023 12:54

Only use cash for my kids' horse riding lessons or sending random donations into school.

VanillaFlotilla · 20/09/2023 12:56

Only for paying the cleaner, trades, and school donations, and quiz night.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 20/09/2023 13:01

Lat Friday
I pay my dog Walker
Mostly pay for taxi by card now

OllieCollieWoo · 20/09/2023 13:01

I use cash for my local shops if making small purchases. I use them several times a week.

Paid cash at the bakers today. Paid cash at the pet shop and they always round the cost down for cash payment. They hate the charges for card payment. Paid on card at the grocers as was nearly £20.

Clicheinaqashqai · 20/09/2023 13:03

Only ever to pay for playgroup or buying things from marketplace. I have to specifically go and get cash, break it so I have correct change etc everytime I buy something.

RufustheFactualReindeer · 20/09/2023 13:03

Half an hour ago buying my lunch

i use cash all the time now….except in those places that won’t let me use cash….might just stop using those places as i do find it a wee bit irritating

bissel · 20/09/2023 13:04

I now pay cash almost all of the time. If any particular business advises me that they will not accept my cash, then I will have no further dealings with that business.

hattie43 · 20/09/2023 13:04

It's becoming harder to spend cash . So many pubs etc only take cards . One pub on Saturday said we take cash but don't give change . Underhand way to not take cash .

LubaLuca · 20/09/2023 13:05

Last week buying some sweets in the Co-op. I had some coins rattling around in my work bag and wanted to get rid of them.
