Last time you used cash?

Went to the ATM this morning, as needed to get some cash out for a club that DC does.
It’s the only time I ever need to use real money.

Do you still use cash frequently?
Does anyone (other than my parents 🙈) still use cheques??!

Friday.

Bought a chocolate with the emergency fiver.

saltnsaucey · 20/09/2023 10:21

Big fan of cash here. I would hate it if shops or businesses stopped accepting cash.

TheFlis · 20/09/2023 10:22

My nail place only takes cash, I took £100 out when I got a pedicure in early July and have only just used the last of that cash.

BatshitFloralDress · 20/09/2023 10:22

At the end of August I gave the kids some money for the arcades on holiday. That was the first time this year I've used it.

The only other time is the (same) £1 coin I use for a trolley in Aldi every week.

countrygirl99 · 20/09/2023 10:22

I bought an ice cream from the village shop a few weeks ago

cruffinsmuffin · 20/09/2023 10:23

I use cash a few times a week for little purchases + I always try and keep change about for anything that pops up. Always keep a bit of £££ in the house for any sort of emergency, if the banking app or card broke or similar it's enough to get food / fuel for a while until it's all sorted.

Last used this morning for a cheeky coffee!

Berlinlover · 20/09/2023 10:25

Two hours ago. I always use cash.

Lyricallie · 20/09/2023 10:25

Hardly ever. I had to get money out the cash machine for a fundraiser the apprentices were doing in my work place. Must have been the first time I got cash out all year.

notahappybunny7 · 20/09/2023 10:28

As much as possible, often paid cash as self employed.

Willmafrockfit · 20/09/2023 10:28

dm has given dd money which she forgot to take, i suggested i have it and transfer her the money, but tbh i am not keen, it disappears like water i find

skyeisthelimit · 20/09/2023 10:30

I use cash all the time for small purchases. Our local shops have a £5 spend limit, which I completely understand as it costs them a lot in card fees, and it just isn't worth it for small purchases. They don't lose trade as you can withdraw cash at the post office.

We had the local funfair recently and DD needed cash for that.

A lot of parking machines in this area are still cash only so I have a bag of coins in the car for parking.

😂 You have just reminded me that I have an emergency £10 in my phone case! I had actually forgotten all about it - not very good for an emergency then is it 🤦🏻‍♀️

Also, thinking about it, DCs have quite a bit of cash in their money boxes, all from grandparents who are overly generous.

Probably when I paid the window cleaner or paid for parking. DP carries cash and pays I'm cash all the time.

BCCoach · 20/09/2023 10:33

A few local shops are cash only (chippie, greengrocers etc). Our local taxis are cash only, even for a £90 airport transfer which is a pain really. Oh, and the window cleaner.

stopringingme · 20/09/2023 10:33

In everyday transactions we always use cash, that way we can keep track of spending easier.

Only use a card for online or large purchases really.

abigailsnan · 20/09/2023 10:33

I always have £50ish in my purse to pay for takeaway's and paying the window cleaner every fortnight.
Yesterday I paid £10 cash to the young mechanic who collected my car and returned it after it went into the garage for an MOT.
Use cash to pay for my nails every month but she will take a bank transfer if I am short on cash.

Fizbosshoes · 20/09/2023 10:34

I often use cash in carparks because the last time I used Ringo it took ages to load and I feel aggrieved it costs more to do it via the app!

anunlikelyseahorse · 20/09/2023 10:35

On Sunday, went to an event, the Wi-Fi was out, so none of the card machines were working, cash only....which meant some very hungry / caffeine withdrawn and unimpressed customers😬.

roarrfeckingroar · 20/09/2023 10:37

There's a local soft play that only takes cash but aside from that, never

APurpleSquirrel · 20/09/2023 10:39

I use cash a lot - sell & buy stuff on FB Marketplace etc. Also need cash for stuff at school; & as the PTA Chair cash is our main form of payment/donation.
Also give the DC cash as pocket money as it helps them to understand the value of money when they have to physically save it or spend it. Realising that to buy that Teddy/toy will cost them x weeks of pocket money is very important.
A lot of shops & stalls also appreciate cash as its immediate.

Fifthtimelucky · 20/09/2023 11:21

I often go for weeks without using any but used some last night when I bought fish and chips and then used more this morning at a Macmillan coffee morning when I bought raffle tickets and cake.

AmyDudley · 20/09/2023 11:46

Only time I use cash is to put £1 in the box for coffee at my book club, and for taxis - I live in a place where we haven't quite caught up with the rest of the world , asking taxi drivers if you can pay with anything other than cash or barter will get you an 'are you from Mars?' look.

BeggyMitchell · 20/09/2023 11:49

I use it loads, it helps me budget.

Last used it yesterday collecting money for a work fundraising bingo event - but I realise that's not typical!

ChrissyHynde · 20/09/2023 11:50

First class stamp yesterday for £1.10p. Posting a letter as well as using cash are both becoming novelties
