Anyone met a celebrity and they haven’t been how you expected?

I guess from all the RB threads…a lot of people saying that they are appalled but not exactly surprised.

so I wondered - anybody met anyone well known and they were NOT how you expected? For good or bad?

I had a very strange and brief encounter with one of my favourite actresses a couple of years ago and it was not what I expected at all! Made me realise of course we don’t know these people at all. Any other stories?

I met some of Girls Aloud in a bathroom when they were in their early days. They were lovely. And shared their goodies shall we say.

Gordon Ramsey and his wife. Delightful. He was clearly in a hurry but made time to be pleasant to everyone who wanted to talk to him. His wife is lovely too and very beautiful

Billy Connolly. Lovely and chatty when my DH approached him when he was having a cuppa. No Airs and graces and happy to chat for ages

John Prescott, staying in the same hotel as us. Pleasant and friendly to all the people gawping at him over breakfast

George Best Also staying in another hotel we were at. Very shy and avoided making eye contact but not in an arrogant way. Amazingly good looking. Those eyes!

Oooh I met John Prescott once too and was so very impressed by him. I surprised myself. He was very charming.

Johnny Vegas bought me a drink once and seemed very happy to be ambushed by a crowd of drunk people.

A family member met Johnny Vaughan in the pub with his mates. He asked them to join his table and they had an amazing evening of chat and laughter. A very nice man.

Just be glad you weren’t selling toiletries to them, your night wouldn’t have ended so well!

I briefly met James Norton after a theatre performance and he was lovely! Took the time to speak to everyone rather than just dashing past.

David Tennet was walking around our local food festival a couple of Saturday's ago with his wife & family.

Heard that whilst he was pleasant to those who went up to him he refused to pose for photos / engage with people as he was with his family enjoying the day.

For me that's fair enough , he wasn't working and just wanted to be husband / dad which of course is correct .
They don't owe us friendship / their time if not working.

I think that’s fair enough. Like you say his children are just kids and don’t deserve that type of childhood either. As a famous parent you must be swaddled with guilt that your children have a more normal life when you aren’t there. I don’t anyone would even recognise George and Charlotte eat al walking down street with a nanny.

Also for all those people talking about Steve Coogan even those who know him well, ala Rob Brydon, say it depends on the day with him. Which is fair enough.

I never pretend I recognise famous people. To the point I may dent their self esteem. But they are just people and the person walking around on the street is not the public persona and actors we really know nothing about. They make a career on being someone else.

Sorry Johnny Vegas! Cant get the edit button to work.

ilovesushi · 03/10/2023 22:08

I worked with S Club 7 briefly and they were quite unpleasant and unprofessional. They were young though so maybe it was just down to that. I also worked with Destiny's Child and Britney on the same job and they were ultra professional, warm and immensely talented.

Clawdy · 03/10/2023 22:10

Paul McCartney - kind, funny, down-to-earth.
Wayne Sleep - sweet and friendly.
Pat Phoenix( many years ago!) - friendly but definitely a diva!

ilovesushi · 03/10/2023 22:10

I was behind Joanna Lumley in Sainsbury's once and she was exactly as you'd imagine. Even her shopping was in character.

Floopyfloop · 03/10/2023 22:10

Met James Corden several times and he was genuinely one of the funniest warmest people I have ever met.

AuroraCake · 03/10/2023 22:10

Isn’t that sitcom, starstruck, about the normal woman going out with the movie star based on a story where the writers friends had been in a pub and saw a really well know actor sitting at the bar just having a pint alone and went up to him and went ‘Aren’t you…’ then they preceded to take him out on razzle with them for the night.

Floopyfloop · 03/10/2023 22:12

Met Kelly Jones and he was gorgeous but much much shorter than I expected!

I have come across Katie Price a few times because she lives fairly local . She has always been lovely and never seen even a hint of her persona .
Davina McCall lives close by and she is just one of the locals out walking her dogs. Always a smile and quick dog chat.

Davina is lovely. Two of my children were at school with her’s until relatively recently and she was always straightforward and friendly and so kind to my children. She went through some tough things like the loss of her sister while she was at the school and she was always very open and honest about how she was feeling. She even did all my washing up for me once during some children’s party I was trying to manage!

All absolutely lovely.

Dartsplayer · 03/10/2023 22:12

Linda Lusardi - absolutely lovely as was her husband Sam Kane
Mark Owen - lovely and chatted as if we were old friends
Peter Andre - friendly and down to earth
Frankie Dettori - arrogant

Whatareallthesefacecreamsfor · 03/10/2023 22:14

@SurpriseItsMeHorseyNeighNeigh Who is he?

Middleagedmeangirls · 03/10/2023 22:16

I'm guessing the unnamed rockstar is one of Supertramp? In which case they might as well remain unnamed as no one will remember them now.

yournewshoes · 03/10/2023 22:17

I've worked with Roy Keane in the past I expected him to bite my head off but he was really lovely and down to earth, also bloody gorgeous!

bombastix · 03/10/2023 22:17

Yes goodbye stranger

Lifeomars · 03/10/2023 22:17

I would hate to be famous, glad I can just grump around when in a bad mood and not be judged , can't imagine having to be "on" everytime I went out. I like to think that i am generally nice, polite and kind but we all have days when we are tired and cross

Millenialmom · 03/10/2023 22:22

@TheHouseElf my mom met Gordon Ramsay a few times working at the NEC looking after him, said the same, lovely, polite, kind to staff. Apparently Jamie Oliver is the exact opposite, rude and didn’t even acknowledge staff.

Lopow · 03/10/2023 22:22

When my DSD was around 9 she met Michael Rosen at some kids literature event. Apparently as soon as the adults were out of ear shot he was rude and dismissive to the kids and wouldn’t answer any of their questions.

CaveMum · 03/10/2023 22:23

Olindia · 03/10/2023 21:44

Yes Eileen from Corrie is rude! My mum was really disappointed when I told her.

Vinnie Jones- kind of what you imagine but was very kind and generous.

frankie detori- nice but quite… aloof?

Interesting you say that about Dettori - I work in racing and the majority of people I talk to that have dealt with him say he’s an absolute arsehole! Most of those people would be stable lads/lasses that have led him up at the races so probable he looks down his nose at those he perceives to be inferior. Thank the lord he’s retiring in 2 months!

CowboyJoanna · 03/10/2023 22:23

My aunty donna met worzel gummidge at a parade when she was a girl. He was a drunkard who stank of alcohol, put her off the show completely
