Anyone met a celebrity and they haven’t been how you expected?

I guess from all the RB threads…a lot of people saying that they are appalled but not exactly surprised.

so I wondered - anybody met anyone well known and they were NOT how you expected? For good or bad?

I had a very strange and brief encounter with one of my favourite actresses a couple of years ago and it was not what I expected at all! Made me realise of course we don’t know these people at all. Any other stories?

I'm dying to know too @SurpriseItsMeHorseyNeighNeigh

EvlisPersley · 03/10/2023 22:24

I met Rolf Harris as a 6/7 yr old 🥴😬…☄️

Whatareallthesefacecreamsfor · 03/10/2023 22:25

Nice:

Davina McCall-V down to earth, friendly and kind

Peter Jones (Dragons den) Sooo tall, v polite, friendly, a gentleman

Less nice:

Melanie Sykes-Expected her to be funny and friendly-Looked me up and down and not friendly at all

Holly W-Scary beneath the pretty, smiling face-hard to explain but with a v strong, intimidating, bully girl edge-was so disappointing, loved her on tv

Johnny Vegas is lovely and has impeccable manners. A true gentleman.

I follow his ex wife on Ista and she seems to be down to earth and likeable. She doesn't talk about JV other than mention her trips to the Uk every now and then and their son's obsession with planes.

However I heard her interviewed on the radio once and she came across as quite petty and spoilt which surprised me as it was so at odds with her Ista. I suppose we all have bad days..........

Went to the same Uni as Chris O'Dowd...I was sitting on a crowded bench, he pushed in, sat on me and didn't even acknowledge my existence 🤣

Met Daniel Day Lewis in the early 90's - very shy and so attractive.
Charles, then Prince - lovely, very polite and engaging.
Met both of the Clintons - he has all the charisma.
Alex Ferguson - rude.
Dave Matthews (of Dave Matthews Band) - couldn't have been more pleasant.

My dad met Tom Hanks and raved about him for years afterwards!

LakeTiticaca · 03/10/2023 22:26

Claire King ( Kim off Emmerdale) sometimes shopped at the place I worked.
Friendly, chatty and very down to earth

Floopyfloop · 03/10/2023 22:26

Met King Charles in the late 90s and he was very kind and present when speaking to you.

goodbyestranger · 03/10/2023 22:26

No not Supertramp (haha given my username!). I wasn't trying to be tedious, just that I'm not sure if it could be libellous to write the name. He's still alive and still very big. I would have far rather have been taken home by David Bowie, what a hero :) This rock star and his bandmate didn't do anything tbh if only because we hopped out of the car and said cheers for the lift. Also tbf to them we did sneak round to the dressing room after the concert where the guys were draped with groupies and I think a couple of young schoolgirls just walking in took them by surprise. I didn't mention it for decades then my DC were playing some of his music and I said he took me home and they were omg he's such a nice guy.

DH used to be in the RAF and handled the VIP flight (used by politicians and royals) at Northolt about 20–ish years ago. He never talked much about who he dealt with but did say John Prescott was good to deal with (he borrowed a black tie from one of DH’s junior officers - he was flying out to represent the government at a funeral and forgot his own tie. After the event he had the tie returned to the guy who leant it to him along with an invitation to have a guided tour of Parliament with him).

The one DH always hated dealing with was Prince Andrew.

Mikimoto · 03/10/2023 22:28

My OH woke to find Kate Moss sleeping in the next seat on a BA overnight flight to Brazil! She was lovely in the morning, but didn't want a pic after 12 hours in a plane - fair enough!

Very funnily enough my DH is Australian and he hadnt even heard of Rolf Harris until a few years ago when the stories came out. He thought he was "some pommie wanker" Grin

JaneyGee · 03/10/2023 22:30

David Baddiel was vile, vile, vile - a rude, arrogant, sneering arsehole.

Brian Blessed, on the other hand, lit up the room. Warm, kind, and just fab.

To my surprise, I liked Nigel Farage. I voted remain, so wanted to hate him, but he was very polite and friendly.

So pleased to hear people say Joanna Lumley is nice in real life. If I heard Stephen Fry was actually horrible, my world would end!

Honestly, I'm dying to say who it is but I wouldn't dare to say it publicly. He is not on anyone's radar (and is extremely famous). He has a real genuine nice guy reputation.

I have seen a few comments on Youtube/social media of people who had noticed his mask falling off for a second and were confused about it but it always dismissed because he has such a spotless reputation. He charms everyone like the sociopath he is.

Once on the way home back to St John's Wood tube station after a work trip, I took a shortcut down a residential side street, tripped over a loose paving stone and literally flew through the air and was caught by a quick-witted middle-aged man with silver hair. Was mortified and very apologetic; even more so when I realised it was Paul McCartney. He was absolutely lovely and we commiserated about the uselessness of the council and the state of the pavements for several minutes. He checked in a paternal way whether I was sure I was okay after my shock and offered to walk me to the Tube. I never let on that I recognised him. Was never a fan before; am now!

Alltheyearround · 03/10/2023 22:31

I have a very good report for Will.i.am - made time to stop and chat to a friend's child - really friendly and generous even though on route to work at a TV studio.

OK, this one I am green with envy.

I met Gino de campo at a tv show recording several years anho and he kissed me on the lips, out of nowhere, I’d only said hello to him. Creepy guy, don’t think that behaviour would wash on a tv set today.

Olindia · 03/10/2023 22:32

@CaveMum
I met him through a kind of work but also friend-of-a-friend situation and we were doing him a bit of a favour so could have helped.

Same.

I live overlooking the Mull of Kintyre and often hope I'll bump into him when I'm walking the dogs. But I think he's given up on Scotland pretty much.

autiebooklover · 03/10/2023 22:36

Mark Lamarr - polite but not friendly
Mel c - lovely and pleasant
Steven Arnold - rude
Nick pickard- friendly
Paul Heaton - polite

Annabel Croft. Lovely woman. She sprinted after myself and DH in Tesco many years ago. We had just paid and she had been behind us in the queue (we hadn't noticed it was her). She had seen some forgotten garlic in the packing area and assumed we accidentally left it. So she came running after us with it. It wasn't ours, but she was very considerate to have done that!

2teenboys · 03/10/2023 22:41

ok I was loving this thread until someone said David Jason was rude 😫 I love him!

Greeneggsandspamm · 03/10/2023 22:42

Matt Berry (IT crowd etc) - met him at an after party after a gig for a band he likes. Really gross and letchy, kept trying to get an 18 year old to go home with him even though she kept refusing he wouldn't give up. Really embarrassing.
