We went to Westward Ho! recently & it had a nice, small seafront area with a few places to eat & have a drink. We are looking for something similar. We've also been to Tenby, Southwold, Whitstable & Wells-next-the-sea in recent times. Can you suggest anywhere nice? We've looked at St Ives, but it looks too expensive & quite cramped! Would prefer South coast. Thanks.

Lyme Regis

I’ve given up trying to beat westward Ho and keep going back for U.K. holiday.

seafields is such a decent price and you can park the car up and not use for a week

Whatliesbeneath707 · 17/09/2023 22:51

Ah yes, we have been to the lovely Lyme Regis and the area & restaurants near the Cobb are what we are looking for.
Yes, W Ho! would be tempting to go back to, but we're trying to find new places to explore.

Can anyone else suggest some nice coastal towns in England?
Are there any other places in Cornwall that you would suggest, apart from St Ives?
Thanks

I'd say the Isle of Wight is your best bet. OK, Newport is just a bog standard small town that could be anywhere, Cowes is for yachties and Shanklin is best avoided, but the rest of the island has just what you're looking for IMO.

PixiePirate · 18/09/2023 19:29

Folkestone, Whitstable, Deal.

PinkRoses1245 · 18/09/2023 19:30

Hastings, Deal, Rye (very close to sea); Lewes (not that close to sea but nice).

menopausalmare · 18/09/2023 19:31

Dartmouth is very nice.

ShanghaiDiva · 18/09/2023 19:31

Fowey?
Marazion?
Exmouth in Devon has an excellent beach and is the start of the Jurassic coast. I like Sidmouth.

DRS1970 · 18/09/2023 19:33

Isle of Purbeck is a very nice area.

dontcallmelen · 18/09/2023 19:34

Deal is lovely as is Broadstairs both very pretty, the Sussex coast near Rye is lovely West Wittering etc.

sittingonacornflake · 18/09/2023 19:37

I was also going to suggest Fowey, or Padstow.

Hastings, Deal, Rye (very close to sea); Lewes (not that close to sea but nice).

Battle is lovely as well excellent pub/restaurant called the Abbey, the castle is worth a wander around.

applecatchers36 · 18/09/2023 19:38

In Kent would second Folkstone but also Broadstairs...

Also Padstow and Falmouth in Cornwall

MissAmbrosia · 18/09/2023 19:39

Deal or Broadstairs

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 18/09/2023 19:39

Second Dartmouth.

WhoHidTheCoffee · 18/09/2023 19:40

Looe is nice - less going on than St Ives but good range of places to eat and harbour and beach for a wander, as well as access to the SW Coastal Path (walk to Polperro and boat back).

We went to Devon recently and really liked Dartmouth.

You might like Rye, Deal, Broadstairs, and Sandwich.

bopbey · 18/09/2023 19:49

Woolacombe/Croyde
Mumbles

Mumsgirls · 18/09/2023 20:00

This year have had a week in Looe Cornwall and one in Poole Dorset, both lovely, but lucky with weather both times.

PuppyMcPupFace · 18/09/2023 20:16

Ventnor
Lyme Regis
Lymington (riverside but very close to the sea)

West bay in Dorset is nice

ElizabethVonArnim · 18/09/2023 20:53

I'm always banging on about this, but I really like Worthing. On the face of it, it's a bit rubbish, but in fact it's great for a weekend. The pebble beach is lovely and it has a sauna in a horse box that you can hire. The Crab Shack is second to none for seafood in a scruffy setting. The Whisky Rooms is a smashing cocktail bar and the Travelodge is perfectly adequate with sea views.

HappyToSmile · 18/09/2023 20:59

Padstow, Broadstairs and Rye

Whatliesbeneath707 · 19/09/2023 21:13

Thank you all.
Great suggestions & some I had just not thought of (IoW).
