We went to Westward Ho! recently & it had a nice, small seafront area with a few places to eat & have a drink. We are looking for something similar. We've also been to Tenby, Southwold, Whitstable & Wells-next-the-sea in recent times. Can you suggest anywhere nice? We've looked at St Ives, but it looks too expensive & quite cramped! Would prefer South coast. Thanks.

I’ve been to Looe and Lyme Regis, and loved both - also recommend Brixham too. You can get a ferry across to Torquay, and often can see seals in the harbour. Lots of places to eat out.

I'm always banging on about this, but I really like Worthing. On the face of it, it's a bit rubbish, but in fact it's great for a weekend. The pebble beach is lovely and it has a sauna in a horse box that you can hire. The Crab Shack is second to none for seafood in a scruffy setting. The Whisky Rooms is a smashing cocktail bar and the Travelodge is perfectly adequate with sea views.

@ElizabethVonArnim Totally agree. If I fancy a bit of sea air I usually head for Worthing. Not the prettiest of seaside towns but it has a lot to offer for a reasonably priced weekend break. Just along from the Travel Lodge you mention there is also a Premier Inn with sea views.

See you in The Crab Shack sometime...!

Absolutely Dartmouth. One of my favourite places.

Newgirls · 22/09/2023 09:01

Lymington?

I like Bournemouth too - stay out of town towards sandbanks. Golden sand beaches, some nice bars and restaurants

Pinkflamingopants · 22/09/2023 09:03

Oh yes IOW is breathtakingly beautiful. I love it there. Arundel (near littlehampton) also beautiful.

Crikeyalmighty · 22/09/2023 12:18

Swanage, Christchurch , Lyme Regis and lymington

chocopuffs · 22/09/2023 12:33

Aldeburgh is really lovely! And you can walk across to Thorpeness which is fun. Some nice places to eat there too.

chocopuffs · 22/09/2023 12:34

Blush sorry though - I missed you were after south coast! Saw southwold and thought of Suffolk!

Thank you all.
Great suggestions & some I had just not thought of (IoW).

IoW is fabulous, you won't regret it

I agree and Amberley, along from Arundel is also lovely: excellent living museum and the South Downs Way if you like walking

Kezhoust2586 · 22/09/2023 12:54

Brighton (more if you want nightlife) Rye , Hove, Worthing , Eastbourne. All lovely areas.

Crikeyalmighty · 22/09/2023 15:46

I can't stand the IOW- (apart from possibly cowes) clearly I'm a rarity

moggo · 22/09/2023 22:31

Another vote for Falmouth. Beautiful sea front and not touristy. Lovely restaurant right on the beach then short walk to the town centre with loads of restaurants, lots overlooking the sea.

1990s · 22/09/2023 22:37

Second Dartmouth, Broadstairs, and add Salcombe.

Robotalkingrubbish · 22/09/2023 22:41

Bournemouth has a fabulous beach and all the bars and restaurants you could possibly need.

Whatliesbeneath707 · 22/09/2023 23:03

So many more suggestions- lots to look up. Thanks everyone 😊
