I'll be 40 next year and am looking for inspiration. What did you do to mark the milestone?

My daughter was in her first ever dance show, so I joined the adult ballet and performed, badly, but I'll always remember it!
We then had an extended family Sunday lunch the next day at a local gastro pub!

July birthday so we had a garden party. Small do-small garden. But everyone dressed smart and had a great day!

IHeartGeneHunt · 17/09/2023 19:37

I had a week in Llandudno. Very nice it was too!

Boujibroke · 17/09/2023 19:37

I hired a holiday home and invited people for the week. It was so relaxing and fun.

For dh 40th we took him to Rome for a surprise break.

Rainsdropskeepfalling · 17/09/2023 19:38

I don't think we did anything..I gave birth on DH's 40th, and now, thinking about it, I'm disappointed he didn't make a similarly grand and sweeping statement.

We didn't do anything for our 50ths due to COVID. Maybe our 60ths....

toomuchfaster · 17/09/2023 19:38

Bugger all thanks to COVID. Did discuss a make up trip after the time but couldn't be bothered.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 17/09/2023 19:39

Stuck inside during peak Covid.Had Indian food delivered and Champagne

Approaching · 17/09/2023 19:39

Following for ideas! I’m hoping for a luxury weekend away. Would quite like a big party but not sure I have enough friends for that!

LordEmsworth · 17/09/2023 19:40

Went to Iceland. Didn't see the northern lights, which was the reason I chose it - but it was amazing anyway...

Frickinghell · 17/09/2023 19:40

Not a lot due to covid

Shutitwierdo · 17/09/2023 19:40

Had lunch on HMS Belfast in London

Needmorelego · 17/09/2023 19:41

Bought some Lego and started my journey to being an AFOL (Adult Fan of Lego).

I'm 40 next week. We're having a drop-in style party at one of our favourite local pubs next weekend, lots of friends coming round from all over, will be kid-heavy I should think. Then I have my actual birthday off with DH (DD will be in nursery) and we'll probably go into town, have a nice lunch maybe see a film in the afternoon - just hang out!

I did consider a holiday as well but I think for the "big" numbers it's nicer to be at home and make it an excuse to see lots of friends and family. I did something similar for my 30th and have fond memories.

sanityisamyth · 17/09/2023 19:44

Nothing!

UpUpUpU · 17/09/2023 19:46

I’m in the process of thinking this too! OH wants to take me away and has asked for for some suggestions. I really do not know!

Pedallleur · 17/09/2023 19:46

On holiday and was in Tucson, Arizona. Mum had sent my card to the hotel so a fantastic surprise when I checked in.

annlee3817 · 17/09/2023 19:47

We went camping, absolutely loved it

HeyJudeNanananana · 17/09/2023 19:48

Nothing. Nobody made an effort at all, which was nice. Hmm

Motheranddaughter · 17/09/2023 19:49

Missflowers1981 · 17/09/2023 19:49

It had snowed heavily and our village was cut-off for a few days. The pub was closed for all but the village and the landlord lit two large log fires one Saturday morning. The pub stays open all day and luckily all power was still working so my birthday was celebrated with about 50 others, until about 1am (lock in). the landlord cooked roasts and put out plates of bread, cheese, pickles and meats throughout the evening. We played poker, quizzes, etc then staggered home. By Sunday lunchtime it was 'hair of the dog' and a Sunday roast before a quiet afternoon by the fire. Was costly and everyone chipped in. We still dine out on some of the stories from that weekend.

Berlinlover · 17/09/2023 19:51

I went on a solo trip to Berlin and had a lovely time.

Figgygal · 17/09/2023 19:52
