So it is Russell Brand

The biggest news story of the year is about someone who has already written books about all the stuff he has done. I will be surprised if Dispatched can say one thing I didn't already know.

@Milkkbottles

It will deem that behaviour as unacceptable which is exactly what it should be. Not swept under the carpet.
Making a prostitute cry, breaking her phone, not using a condom, using misogynistic terms to describe women under the guise of ‘being funny’ or banter shouldn’t be dismissed as ‘oh well if Russell Brand did it - that’s ok for me’ - it should be “Russell Brand did that and it was very, very wrong’. And if people get that message, I’d say that’s a very important message to get.

Jimmy Saville wasn’t convicted, should his victims be silenced too?

BIossomtoes · 16/09/2023 11:16

I have to say that the more I see on social media, the more concerned I get about our justice system. Innocent until proved guilty seems to have gone by the wayside. If some of the attitudes on this thread are real, there’s a significant section of the population who should never be allowed anywhere near jury service.

When rape victims rarely get justice through the legal system, what do you expect? For women to just accept rape and not complain?

Nope, he was reported to the police several times whilst alive, and they did nothing. Try again.

Really?

I see what you mean @pinkfondu , a kind of verbal persuasion, the man might thing it's flirty banter, sparring, foreplay, but afterwards the woman knows she was worn down. Not talking about Russell Brand, but it happened to me when I was younger where I was once or twice debated in in to sex I didn't want. eg, eloquent versions of a debate to take you to ''so QED- you ought not to be rejecting me''.
do you think you can do better than me!
Um,what, no
Do you think sex and love have to go together.
Um no.
Do you find me UNattractive then
Um, no.

The rape apologists on this thread..!

Do feel free to point out any post where someone has defended rape.
Seems like a baseless charge to me on what I have seen.
If this is the rigour you bring to consideration of legal cases, god help us all - let's hope and pray that you are never called to jury service.

He's not written a book about anally raping multiple people. There have been attempts to out him for years but he's legally very aggressive. They must have something watertight.

So they should take evidence that the police turn a blind eye to rapist and abusive high profile men, to the police? Do you see any flaw in that logic?

WhalePolo · 16/09/2023 11:22

@Milkkbottles

No - the poster has a good point. Journalism was providing the evidence against JS. There was never a court case. Had journalism not been ‘allowed’ to report until after a court case - we’d never know the full extent of his activities.
Similarly the Winterview care home may never have known about had it not been for the undercover Dispatches program. The court case came after. Do you think that was the wrong thing to do?

Same. I look back now and think WTAF.

Do you understand what you’re saying?! You’re aware the police turn a blind eye to these crimes when they involve high profile men, like they did with Jimmy Saville. And your solution to that is to report it to the police?! Great logic 🙄

Namechange666 · 16/09/2023 11:24

Where did I say people shouldn't speak out?

I said if you have concerns, then go go the police.

What happened with that monster is deplorable and the police should have taken it seriously. The police even called him a predator and that's enough for me if they say that he was. Saville was from a different time.

These days things are taken a lot more seriously. But people still deserve a trial do they not?

We've seen weinstein put away, rolf harris and that dirty lost prophets front man put away from police efforts and trials.

That is the right place for it to be handled not by wannabe sleuths and rumour mill online.

Go to the police always.

well with respect "debated into" consent sounds like consent to me.
assuming of course that you and any parties in the current case were above the legal age of consent.
What other permissable scenarios would you prrefer?

I think that poster is saying that if there is evidence that the police have been turning a blind eye to criminal acts, then that should be investigated?

brightdayloomingdark · 16/09/2023 09:02

But some of these people are elevated by the media on a pedestal, and when young, their boundaries become blurred, and they take what’s offered. Women have to have more self worth, and value themselves. You only have to go into Manchester pubs frequented by premiership footballers on a Saturday night to see the desperate lengths women go to to be noticed.

oh come on! Those men are incredibly fit prime physical specimens, young and rich. Some of them are even quite handsome. Of course young women want to shag them!

It’s not about them being fit and young , it’s about bagging yourself a premiership footballer and having the life that goes with it. People are so shallow nowadays! I don’t think it will be about anyone mentioned on here at all, I think it will be a big shock tbh

Because of the exact attitudes going on this board, people already calling Brand disgusting and whatnot, you're proving exactly what I'm saying about slandering someone without evidence.

Anyone can say absolutely anything about someone. There has to be proof.

If it were up to me, I wouldn't allow names to be let out into the public until after a trial has happened.
