If it's about Russell brand that's an awful load of hype for a bit of a nonentity these days !

RedToothBrush · 15/09/2023 22:30

Itisyourturntowashthebath · 15/09/2023 22:12

I was thinking this too.

It is not the media that is nasty, it is the consumers. We made them do it.

It's clearly X doing poppers in Balmoral with Princess Diana's body double who was supposed to be on Prigozhins plane but got stuck trying to login to the layest ASOS sample sale.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 15/09/2023 22:30

I think people might be missing the point, asking who would care about RB or whoever. Whoever it is, he/they must have been involved in something extremely serious and far-reaching.

You could have asked the same about Jimmy Savile: 'who could care less about a washed up old DJ?' - if it had just been about him being involved in something low-level and a bit shady.

Jackydaytona · 15/09/2023 22:30

So an A lister?
Hardly RB then?

Libelula21 · 15/09/2023 22:30

iluvsummer · 15/09/2023 22:25

Crazydayandnight has a blind about it today

Interesting use of the word brand in there.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 15/09/2023 22:30

So this is a Sleb thing that could be serious enough to be Current Affairs?

Torontonoob · 15/09/2023 22:31

I forgot RB even existed until this thread. He is not A Lister. He's not really a household name either.

Just famous for having a bad haircut.

About as famous as a box of cereal.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 15/09/2023 22:31

Given what he's already owned up to, if it is him it must be something horrific.

TinaTeaspoons · 15/09/2023 22:31

Bet it is a load of nothing. Probably about celebrities nobody has really heard of.

HungryWisdom · 15/09/2023 22:31

This is blatantly channel 4 doing a documentary about cancel culture. It’s just like that one they did a few weeks ago about eating human meat.

Itisyourturntowashthebath · 15/09/2023 22:32

The Times break the story at 3pm.
Time for a political resignation before or after. But if £15 billion is nothing to worry about, what is?

bellac11 · 15/09/2023 22:32

thecatsthecats · 15/09/2023 22:26

Agreed, it strikes me as people wanting to show that they're cleverer/better than the speculation.

The trickery is something like Channel 4 would do, but not Dispatches/ST. People would switch off after five minutes, plus it wouldn't pass the ethical standards for journalism - because even if certain celebs were in on it, they couldn't know where the finger would point, and who might be hounded off SM for the sake of their silly prank.,

Not long ago, channel 4 did the human meat mockumentary that shocked a lot of people who didnt guess it was a joke.

Or was it a joke.......

MeinKraft · 15/09/2023 22:32

youboozeyoulose · 15/09/2023 22:22

Re the programme being about people speculating ...sorry but that's so ridiculous. Why would a news programme announce a 90 minute special and then do a expose of people talking about it? It's not like the producers wouldn't be implicated is it? Also, why on earth is that of interest to anyone?

It would be very boring. Can't guarantee I'd watch even if I was named as a gossip monger Grin

JimnJoyce · 15/09/2023 22:33

my vote goes to Pipkins

but 3 years in the making? about cancel culture? I'm not so sure, hardly hard hitting investigation that warrants 3 years of work.

LuckOfTheDrawer · 15/09/2023 22:34

@bellac11, the fake human meat documentary was satire, and was pretty damning I think.

Paddingtonthebear · 15/09/2023 22:34

Innocuous articles about RB and his wife today in a couple of the tabloids

CafeAuLaitRoyale · 15/09/2023 22:34

HungryWisdom · 15/09/2023 22:31

This is blatantly channel 4 doing a documentary about cancel culture. It’s just like that one they did a few weeks ago about eating human meat.

If it is they are being very irresponsible. Even if just for 24 hours, it guarantees innocent people will find their names caught up in speculation.

That's also true if it a genuine story but somehow it seems worse if it's just a self-primo trick for something completely different.

Redshoeblueshoe · 15/09/2023 22:34

Shamelessly place marking

Please explain how this is blatant, how that would qualify as journalism and why anyone would care.

And as I said, yes, Channel 4 take the piss. But not Dispatches.

And I didn't read a thing about the human meat documentary, nor could it actually affect someone entirely innocent's real life.

keffie12 · 15/09/2023 22:35

There are two major stories doing the rounds : the truth is there is truth in both and not just rumours.

Whether one or both will come out or not, this weekend remains to be seen.

One involves a news reporter and the other the royal family. No, it's not Harry and Meghan either

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 15/09/2023 22:35

If we, namely social media denizens, are the story, that must be the biggest non-story of all.

Like when Lisa Simpson ended up sharing her massive news shock with the whole of Springfield that Jebediah 'was really great'!

Paddingtonthebear · 15/09/2023 22:35

Today

Biggest news story of the year breaking this weekend. Part 2

And, of course, the whole point of the Huw Edwards furore was that 95% of social media had it absolutely right.

Unless there is a really bizarre twist that it wasn’t Huw Edwards and it was a set up which he was involved in all along.

And Andrew Tate is actually a woman's rights campaigner and he's cracking modern slavery from the inside
