Maybe something to do with covid if they've been working on it for last few years?

I was the first to call it out on the previous thread and this will be my last post on this one. I'm convinced. I believe the OP is associated with Dispatches and has seeded this thread.

This is the story, the speculation, hyperbole, rumours, defamation, witch-hunt...post on here with names at your peril - you're the subject of tomorrow's Dispatches.

Surely no one is going to give us 90 minutes of prime time on TV.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 15/09/2023 22:23

I need a book character costume for Monday. Because of this thread I have not bought a Gangsta Granny wig from Amazon - I utterly despise Walliams and his misogynistic badly written racist crap but at nearly 60 I make a rubbish Goldilocks! Mummy Bear it is then.

Wally?

As in, go as 'Where's Wally' - not just randomly insulting you Grin

NotSayingItsTheMasonsBut · 15/09/2023 22:23

No offence @HuwEdwardsBottom but journos are on here all the time stoking the fire.
In this particular instance it wouldn't matter to me at all if you were part of the production team/journalist

MistyBay · 15/09/2023 22:23

I think it is that pizza/celebrity thing that’s been doing the rounds with Oprah.

A 3 year investigation from both Dispatches and The Sunday Times, culminating in a major cover story and a prime time extended TV special, just for a washed up comedian nobody has cared about since approximately 2009?

EsmaCannonball · 15/09/2023 22:23

If Channel 4 was doing a rather pious 'look how gossip spreads on social media' story then they'd be rather disappointed because most people are either taking the piss about Hartley Hare starting a throuple with Sooty and Sweep or are saying that Russell Brand being exposed as a sex pest is all a bit 2006. And, of course, the whole point of the Huw Edwards furore was that 95% of social media had it absolutely right.

MrsCarson · 15/09/2023 22:23

If it's all over X why haven't we seen a link to it?

It must be very serious for this to be the biggest story of the year? Do you have any ideas what it's about?

Bunnycat101 · 15/09/2023 22:24

I can’t see how it could be RB either- people sort of expect there to be skeletons in the closet there. I am starting to wonder if the comedian thing is just to put people off the scent a bit. It doesn’t feel big enough unless something bigger and links to institutional issues rather than the odd dodge celeb.

Well if they've spent the last three years researching how people like to gossip about celebrities then journalism really is dead.

Biggest news story of the year breaking this weekend. Part 2

VeloVixen · 15/09/2023 22:26

The Dan Wotton/Martin Branning thing?

MistyBay · 15/09/2023 22:26

There’s that child trafficking thing with Hollywood and Oprah.

HJ40 · 15/09/2023 22:26

ST Insights aren't about a minor sleb coupling up with another. They are major and serious news stories.

If it is comedians, it will be that they colluded at something, or were colluded against, or are funding something dodgy.

I thought it was the BBC who had the programme on William's alleged infidelities ready to go, but it's been delayed a year because of the Queen's death.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 15/09/2023 22:26

Alstroemeria123 · 15/09/2023 22:22

I’m just not sure how a story about Russell Brand could be described as “the biggest of the year”. He’s hardly got the most squeaky-clean past, and is pretty much an irrelevance these days isn’t he?

He has over 6.5m followers on YT, but he comments on politics and conspiracy stuff focussing on US politics. Hardly an A lister/household name in the UK, who warrants Dispatches special. Who in the UK gives a fuck about him?

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 15/09/2023 22:26

Hartley Hare starting a throuple with Sooty and Sweep

That's the beauty of the internet: in all of the books that have ever been published since the very beginning of time, I can guarantee you that that short phrase has never appeared Grin

ScrambledSmegs · 15/09/2023 22:26

Russell Brand isn't a comedian any more though - if he ever was? I thought he was a tv presenter who dressed and talked like a parody of a Victorian dandy. Anyway he's got some very alternative beliefs and he has a lot of 'followers', for want of a better word.

Re the programme being about people speculating ...sorry but that's so ridiculous. Why would a news programme announce a 90 minute special and then do a expose of people talking about it? It's not like the producers wouldn't be implicated is it? Also, why on earth is that of interest to anyone?

Agreed, it strikes me as people wanting to show that they're cleverer/better than the speculation.

The trickery is something like Channel 4 would do, but not Dispatches/ST. People would switch off after five minutes, plus it wouldn't pass the ethical standards for journalism - because even if certain celebs were in on it, they couldn't know where the finger would point, and who might be hounded off SM for the sake of their silly prank.,

MadCatLady27 · 15/09/2023 22:27

So far I'm guessing

*a certain war hero's daughter abusing the vast amount of money raised by his large number of laps - couple of stories about it recently could be the fall out of exactly how much where it was claimed it would etc

*that concrete was known about long ago and how much better it could have been handled

*Fall out from the COVID enquiry or the investigation into a certain "I'm a celebrity's" handling of COVID contracts

*A investigation into vetting procedures in an organisation I'm not going to write here, and how they were neglected to be done. Almost LOD like.

Crazydayandnight has a blind about it today

These 'blind items' are always vague and unspecific. And they always seem to appear after the news has already broken. If they had inside info, why didn't they release it before anybody else did?

Alstroemeria123 · 15/09/2023 22:27

And, of course, the whole point of the Huw Edwards furore was that 95% of social media had it absolutely right.

Unless there is a really bizarre twist that it wasn’t Huw Edwards and it was a set up which he was involved in all along.

blueshoes · 15/09/2023 22:29

If we, namely social media denizens, are the story, that must be the biggest non-story of all. 'Social media rife with speculation on made up Dispatches scoop' is a damp squib.

If mn were complicit and Dispatches set this up, thir integrity would plummet with their users/viewers.

Still waiting for a decent leak.
