I'm imagining a certain lanky camp guy. Maybe a short hairy guy, but that'd be the wild card.

I think the royals would be protected, so not them. I still think it might be something political (possibly relating to money/fraud etc) or some kind of big NHS scandal. But then the Mirror are reporting it’s a UK household name 🤷🏻‍♀️ I just can’t see why Dispatches would undertake a 3 year investigation (if that’s what it was) about a celebrity.

Unless it's something involving Jimmy Savile levels of child sexual abuse, 'comedians being sexist, predatory creeps' just doesn't seem to warrant a three year investigation or references to the 'biggest story of the year' and teams of serious journalists working right down to the wire. To me 'the biggest story of the year' would mean something involving politicians or royalty or Boris Johnson placing Chinese or Russian agents in the House of Lords or something.

Will it be only UK comedians, do you think? A list makes me think of Hollywood and I can only name a handful of UK Hollywood comedians. RG perhaps, JC, struggling to think of others

Haven’t read the full threads (!) but I did read that journalists had been working on it for a year.

The Queen died just over a year ago, and I’d read that the press had shown restraint towards William out of respect for her.

It’s possible m her death has unleashed the hounds, and they’ve spent a year lining up ducks…. Though somehow I don’t think so.

I guess if it’s a celeb, if they’re saying it’s the biggest story of 2023, that means it’s bigger than Philip Schofield…

I don’t think anyone’s going to be shocked by a comedian… so many of them seem slightly / very questionable.

Personally, I hope it’s a financial / corruption scandal… something that really needs cleaned up societally, not some series of individual peccadilloes.

I believe MN has previously been forced to hand people's IP addresses to the police, when they have posted something very contentious that somebody has taken exception to.

Last year someone posted about feeling suicidal and MN gave the IP address to police. They knocked on her door that same evening for a welfare check. OP wasn't pleased at all. Apparently it wasn't an urgent situation but the police check meant her husband finding out.

But obviously, nobody will be handing out IP addresses based on a silly gossip thread about a news story that doesn't exist yet.

Re the programme being about people speculating ...sorry but that's so ridiculous. Why would a news programme announce a 90 minute special and then do a expose of people talking about it? It's not like the producers wouldn't be implicated is it? Also, why on earth is that of interest to anyone?

I’m just not sure how a story about Russell Brand could be described as “the biggest of the year”. He’s hardly got the most squeaky-clean past, and is pretty much an irrelevance these days isn’t he?
