In his video he makes a big point that the sex was consensual - implying that there are allegations that it wasn't

Ah okay, yes fair enough, though that is still assumption and also a further stretch to assume that is the same accusation of others and/or subject matter of the programme (he said amongst a list of other stuff).

But yes, makes more sense of the post I quoted (and yes, those would be very serious allegations).

Amusing that the video had to be edited before the word 'consensual' - he probably forgot to include it first time...

RamsesTheChub · 16/09/2023 13:46

Where has it been stated that there are allegations of rape? I don't think there's anywhere near a consensus on what these so-called allegations are - another reason for why the secrecy with initials when no sod seems to know what they're accusing these celebrities of.

Brand stated serious criminality but even he didn't have the balls to say what. Maybe they all took turns guarding Osama Bin Laden's cave.....

Brand used toe phrase Non-consensual. I will retract the word rape and switch for the phrase non-consensual sexual activity if that makes you more comfortable.

Hopelesslydevotedtoshrews · 16/09/2023 13:53

I don't know, do you think Dispatches would whip this up to basically scold viewers for 90 minutes about gossiping on social media having really gone out of its way to goad people into gossiping on social media for an entire day before?

LovingMyLiver · 16/09/2023 13:59

Let's be honest. We're all invested as fuck. Roll on 9pm!!

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 16/09/2023 14:00

I think someone's confusing Miriam Margolyes for Michael McIntire.Easily done.

Grin

Yes, sorry, I was just being silly. I'm pretty sure that she's all talk - and all strictly consensual; but goodness, that woman seems to have a cesspool for a mind.

Allthatwegotisthispalebluedot · 16/09/2023 14:03

Have kind of dipped in and out of the thread but would RB being involved in some sort of rape allegation really be such a massive story or scandal? Of course it would be hideous for those involved but a) he’s a fringe YouTuber these days, not an a-lister (although if he is a rapist he should be tried in court and imprisoned) and b) everyone knows about his sexual incontinence anyway, he has written about it extensively! It would hardly be a ‘scandal’ that his behaviour drifted from ‘unpleasant’ to ‘criminal’, surely?

Yeah it would be unusual turf for Dispatches. I imagine it will be more focused on systematic activity by a number of comedians/ the industry rather than a single act by a single individual. Even so, I’m not sure it’s really going to be a drop mic moment.

Let’s stop minimising rape eh? Rape should always be a big story. Someone potentially getting away with it due to their status as a ‘celebrity’ should very much be a big story.

bissel · 16/09/2023 14:10

The previous poster was not trying to minimise anything.

Brimfullofash · 16/09/2023 14:10

Do we still not know yet? (Have skimmed thread but can't see any major update other than RB's video)

borninthe80esss · 16/09/2023 14:13

@Allthatwegotisthispalebluedot
You're right that if he has raped someone the police and courts should deal with it. Problem is there not.. when it comes to the UK justice system women are fucked and rape is practically legal.
If this is a way for his victims to have a voice (and I'm sure they'd need to be evidence that they are victims) then why not.

Yep I heard that also

GoodOldEmmaNess · 16/09/2023 14:19

Completely lost track of all the initials now but just wanted to say that I LOVE the idea (mentioned upthread) of a broadcaster "using a Trojan horse to promote horseshit". The one horse in all the world that could only excrete Greeks and not shit.

If a celebrity ha ing potentially non consensual sex with others is the year's biggest news, I despair.

Massive, humongous news stories are things like: 9/11, the Queen dying, JFK, John Smith dying, the state of the NHS/Met Police, Covid-19, the Ukraine war,the rate of GDP which had been glossed over, etc.

And this site rails against the Daily Maily but fills two threads with celeb speculation.

CaveMum · 16/09/2023 14:26

@RosesAndHellebores thats why I still think it has to either be much bigger than RB alone (and I’m talking Epstein-scale levels of abuse) or it’s a bait and switch (danger of trial by media or, as I speculated before, the pitfalls of AI and deep fakes).

This is what I was thinking. Its hardly a 90minute expose. Absolutely horrible to the victims and he would need to be brought to justice. If it is a group of women getting a platform to tell their story, then that is great for them and they deserve to be heard. But I'd have to say that I wouldn't call it some type of massively shocking story.

MrWhippyyy · 16/09/2023 13:33

I’m disgusted by some of the comments on this and the first thread.

‘Is that it?’
’Im not interested in this’
’What about XYZ?’

Since when is the accusation of rape not enough for some of you? Whether it’s a rape that has been committed or a false accusation, either are life destroying situations. That some people think this is not of interest because it’s not important enough is hideous. Whataboutery is also disgusting.
Either way, these accusations are very serious. Someone has either been raped or someone has been accused falsely of rape. Both are huge. To suggest that a rape accusation isn’t enough is really concerning. Some posters need to take a long look at themselves and not dismiss such serious crimes because they were frothing at the mouth for more.

Police should be investigating if it's rape, not channel 4

Gwendimarco · 16/09/2023 14:29

Is all this being blown up to bury some other story?
What’s going on in the political world right now?

BeverleyMacker · 16/09/2023 14:31

Re the RB statement - Victoria Derbyshire saying 'watch the womens accounts at 9pm on channel 4'

I like Victoria Derbyshire but is she one of the women and/or did she work amongst the circuit (or for the Times / Ch4 now)? Curious she would be in the know on this.

I don’t get the minimisation. It’s not enough of a story that potentially people are being raped and nothing happens due to the rapists status?
