It's not going to be Russell Brand ffs

He's just out a video on Twitter saying it is about him! But also will be about others

justasking111 · 16/09/2023 08:23

It's an awful indictment of our society if celebrity scandals are the biggest ones.

We really are just where the powers that be want us if that's the case.

VeloVixen · 16/09/2023 08:24

Cluckycluck · 16/09/2023 08:19

@VeloVixen I can't see any reference to paying fines on twitter, can you screenshot what you've seen?

Sorry, long scrolled past that and can’t remember who said it. If I see anything about it again I will.

ScottishIceCream · 16/09/2023 08:25

MoiraRosesBaybay · 16/09/2023 08:13

Or that they are saying they have something to see how many people would post something saying it wasn’t them showing that they feel guilty about something. Like the guy who admitted to murdering his wife when a skull was found which turned out to be thousands of years old.

Wait, what?!

eandz13 · 16/09/2023 08:25

@blankittyblank No, he put a video out saying he'd had word from a tv company and a newspaper company that serious accusations and allegations have been flying around about him (all the speculation since the world has started guessing), and he was getting his say in quickly that it isn't him and he hasn't done anything.

Flakjacketon · 16/09/2023 08:27

Russel Brand has released a You Tube video claiming that a TV program and newspaper are making up stuff about him. His video was shown on BBC Breakfast.

VeloVixen · 16/09/2023 08:28

I always thought it was odd that Simon Cowell got rid of Walliams on BGT and replaced him with the non entity which is Bruno. Regardless of anyone’s opinion on Walliams he made for good TV ratings which is pretty much all Cowell cares about. I did wonder if SC had heard rumours about Walliams so binned him before it came out. SC won’t want his brand tainted by association. Plus I think on a personal level SC would be quite disgusted by it, he seems to be a family guy.

Flakjacketon · 16/09/2023 08:28

Cross posted. Sorry

Yes, right before a massive expose on channel 4 and the Sunday times (the two media outlets) about comedians and #metoo.

Why would he do this now, just before the expose, if it wasn't him?! Weird timing otherwise.

It won't just be him of course.

blankittyblank · 16/09/2023 08:32

AND he was saying he refutes the allegations. He want saying "it isn't about me!"

RamsesTheChub · 16/09/2023 08:32

Well I always thought Walliams was an overrated nasty little twat - not that it means he's in any way related to these speculations.

That said I saw in the original thread someone talked about how much they love Lee Mack, which I find interesting because he's openly creepy. It's kind of half his humour, being endlessly flirtatious. For some reason people seem to love it, put 20 years and a fat belly on him and I suspect the reaction would be somewhat different.

wheresmymojo · 16/09/2023 08:32

Generally speaking, as much as I'm here guessing names and all hypocrite that I am

I don't believe this trial by media for anything involving alleged criminal acts is a good thing at all.

If some criminal act(a) have taken place the police should be the first port of call and the media should report on the investigation as they do with other investigations.

It feels very sleazy and down the wrong path for society to have trial by media and people being cancelled or piled on by the masses before any criminal investigation has taken place.

I know the forces record on rape is beyond dire but I don't think we should start accusing people of pretty heinous crimes like rape without any proper due process.

This is effectively the modern equivalent of villagers rushing out with pitchforks and torches.

wheresmymojo · 16/09/2023 08:33

blankittyblank · 16/09/2023 08:15

Rumours are it's David Williams, Noel fielding and Russel.

It's not NF.

He is still lined up to be a GBBO presenter on Channel 4 who run Dispatches.

ML on the other hand was removed as presenter.

Finlesswonder · 16/09/2023 08:33

I can totally see why Russell brand chose now to refute some random allegations.

Yesterday afternoon I'd forgotten he even existed.

Since last night I must have googled him about five times.

Totally agree

Violetparis · 16/09/2023 08:34

If it is RB l, the big story will be the cover up by top tv execs and other comedians about his behaviour.

HuwEdwardsBottom · 16/09/2023 08:34

You could always tell that Simon Cowell was irritated by David Walliams. I don’t think he ever really liked him that much.

OP posts:
RamsesTheChub · 16/09/2023 08:34

@wheresmymojo

Agree generally, but if they're making accusations of crime I would expect they have - and the programme will acknowledge - already provided their evidence to the police. If not, it really is just a hit-piece without evidence.

CaveMum · 16/09/2023 08:35

@NeedToThinkOfOne i guess we’ll see this evening. I’m no fan of Brand and some of the others referred to on here, but some of the almost gleeful “I knew he was a wrong ‘un” posts are reminiscent of the “tricoteuses”.

If I’m wrong, I’m wrong but I’d prefer this to all be some big social experiment rather than the alternative that dozens or more lives have been ruined by entitled men.

blankittyblank · 16/09/2023 08:36

Good point @wheresmymojo

wheresmymojo · 16/09/2023 08:36

I also suspect that a lot of the story will be as much about safeguarding failures and broadcasting institutions protecting the alleged perpetrators as the slebs themselves.

That's the piece that is newsworthy.

Oh I agree. But I think he’d put personal irritation aside for ratings. Plus I did wonder if the “irritation “ was part of an act to get the ratings. But he’d dump him over any allegations

exactly this

Searching55 · 16/09/2023 08:33

Yep, I’d much rather Dispatches had a programme on how society has lost its ability to think critically

VeloVixen · 16/09/2023 08:37

It will be kind of funny of Brand isn’t mentioned in Dispatches and he did that YouTube video for nothing!
