Apparently the biggest news story of the year is going to break over the weekend

It’s all overTwitter, or X as it’s now called. One of the Sunday papers is working on a massive story and all staff weekend leave has been cancelled. Channel 4 is showing an episode of ‘Dispatches’ tomorrow night at 9pm but haven’t said what it’s about and lots of people are putting two and two together and saying it’s in conjunction with the following days papers.

Something is definitely going on because the Mail have clearly hinted at something but also MN themselves would usually have zapped a threadlike this within minutes - not let it stand around all day….

my bet is there’s some sort of abuse has happened but has been covered up by comedians - would love to know Katherine Ryan’s opinions tonight…..

What is the definition of a household name then? I’m thinking that it’s someone that both my parents (in their 70s) and my kids (teenagers) would know of. Any front bench politician, a member of the royal family, major film stars, popstars and presenters (Huw Edwards was a household hold name).

So if it is comedians, most comedians are not household names, that leads me to think that the contents of the story is especially shocking. Maybe gangs of comedians abusing girls and passing victims around, targeting vulnerable girls/women. On a par with Jimmy Saville or the Bradford/Rotherham gangs.

If this ‘bad behaviour’ is sexual in nature it matters a lot that this is exposed. It’s not just a personal matter between the parties. It’s sending out a message that this is not acceptable and there are consequences.

I can’t see there being a 90 mins special about Russell brand. We know he’s a dick. We know he was a heroin addict and a sex addict. What else can there be to say?

The competitive "who cares" in this thread is so tiresome. We don't even know what it is yet and already people are too cool to care.

Also tiresome are the people whose only barometer of morality is "was it against the law".

And just to build on my earlier hypothesis, if I was making a Dispatches about social media speculation and libel/defamation this is EXACTLY how I'd do it - seed a story in Popbitch, get Krishnan to post something then take it down, and seed a load of threads everywhere from Mumsnet to X, Tattle to DigitalSpy and throw some meat to the tabloids too.

The hype is too great now. Even if Prince William has been bumming Russell brand in the House of Commons whilst Hugh bonneville watches and posts it on pornhub I’m gonna be disappointed

seriously though, I can’t see a 90 minute dispatches special being about just someone getting caught with their pants down or even allegations of sexual harassment/ grooming by an individual. I mean loads of footballers have been arrested for rape and they didn’t make documentaries about them. Either it’s super bad ( child sex ring featuring celebs) or it’s more of a political thing ( Boris and the Russians/ Chinese/ insert other political baddie here).

There has been a lot going around on instagram and TikTok about the ex-boxer Amir Khan grooming vulnerable women and both he and his wife threatening them. I heard the audio notes on instagram and they were horrific.

The biggest news story of the year would be something that might give us hope like the tory party and their dodgy cronies have been taken away by a massive spaceship....if its some sleezy story about bad behaviour from a celeb i think we're all sick of those and frankly am done hearing about their crap.
