Apparently the biggest news story of the year is going to break over the weekend

It’s all overTwitter, or X as it’s now called. One of the Sunday papers is working on a massive story and all staff weekend leave has been cancelled. Channel 4 is showing an episode of ‘Dispatches’ tomorrow night at 9pm but haven’t said what it’s about and lots of people are putting two and two together and saying it’s in conjunction with the following days papers.

Unless it's illegal I couldn't care less what entertainers get up to in their private lives.

Bit of an odd thing to post...

NetZeroZealot · 15/09/2023 18:07

It won't be a Royal story.

I've been waiting decades for this one.

Me too.

I think a lot of people are just hoping it’s David Walliams

He is an annoying bastard.

It would have to be a very, very big deal to warrant a 90-minute edition of C4 Dispatches. 'Someone who used to be on Mock The Week [or similar] being a bit of a lech' would absolutely not make the grade for that. It would need to be about something criminal that was subject to an institutional cover-up for a long time and/or someone extremely famous.

eg Someone famous having a relationship that was (to quote Schofield) "Unwise, but not illegal" would not qualify. Dispatches isn't a celeb scandal kind of show, it's an institutional failings/exposing criminal activity programme. So probably more like a Savile or a Weinstein situation than a Philip Schofield / Huw Edwards one.

I would say this too but wouldn’t they have been arrested already?

No, not him. Similar in looks though.

Dw?

MaudGone · 15/09/2023 18:08

Who's the sort-of-newsreader that's been mentioned? The one from GB News who's been exposed on Byline Times?

StoneWitch · 15/09/2023 18:08

Sushione · 15/09/2023 17:55

No one's mentioned an octogenarian singer

Someone did use his initials. CR?

So I suppose we can forget politicians/royalty/newsreaders/singers. Narrows the field.

MsLavender · 15/09/2023 18:11

I wonder if we've got it wrong and it's actually a behind the scenes looks at investigations into false allegations against comedians and other celebs and how it's impacted their lives following the Me Too movement. That would be quite interesting.

DeanElderberry · 15/09/2023 18:11

CarpeVitam · 15/09/2023 17:56

He was my first thought too 🤔

I wish. It's the only one mentioned with genuine far-reaching implications, as opposed to being celebrity tittle-tattle.

Is that it?

Oh arrest them and forget about them.

REP22 · 15/09/2023 18:11

Not seen his name mentioned in this thread yet - but Mohammed al Fayed has recently died. He had many a skeleton in his Harrods vaults, had known predatory behaviour towards staff, mostly female but not necessarily always, as well as his tragic royal connections. He was also connected to politicians and sport.

I would be prepared to retract my earlier Bagpuss comments and suggest that it might well be something to do with Mohammed al Fayed. With or without the involvement of Professor Yaffle.

TucSandwich · 15/09/2023 18:05

Still are.

True. They're just not quite as overt about it as they were back in the day!

I remember Triggernometry once saying they wouldn't have RB on as a guest because of what they knew about him.

SandGroperNomad · 15/09/2023 18:12

It may also be the Essex University Hospitals scandal as that’s just gone to an inquiry stage hasn’t it?

Vinrouge4 · 15/09/2023 18:13

Mike Yarwood died this week. Very low key news. Hope it isn’t him.

That old bugger would have enjoyed revenge.

Or MJ.

BunnyBunnyJabberJabber · 15/09/2023 18:14

fiddlesticks for a fleeting moment I thought STBXH was another bloody celebrity name to figure out.

kirinm · 15/09/2023 18:14

I can't be bothered to hear about arsehole comedians being arseholes. 🙄

That's what it seems to sound like. Rather than an expose of horrible behaviour but an insight into wrongful accusations?
