Apparently the biggest news story of the year is going to break over the weekend

It’s all overTwitter, or X as it’s now called. One of the Sunday papers is working on a massive story and all staff weekend leave has been cancelled. Channel 4 is showing an episode of ‘Dispatches’ tomorrow night at 9pm but haven’t said what it’s about and lots of people are putting two and two together and saying it’s in conjunction with the following days papers.

I'm going with the Chinese link to Boris idea

justasking111 · 15/09/2023 17:59

Maybe a general election?

Twitter alludes to a person who may be described (loosely) as a news reader!

Not another one!

👍🏼

Jim car

No, not him. Similar in looks though.

VeloVixen · 15/09/2023 18:00

I’ve heard terrible stuff about David Jason for a long time.

Dont you just love a media lynch mob...

I have literally nothing else going on this weekend!

IClaudine · 15/09/2023 18:01

I think it is something related to politics. The comedian thing is just a rumour, isn't it? I reckon it is sexual harassment in the Palace of Westminster.

WallaceinAnderland · 15/09/2023 18:01

This thread is like the biggest game of 20 questions 😂

I’m hoping they have abducted my STBXH . Do you think they would take him for a small fee ?

I can put him in my freezer alongside Cedric if you like.

I will say it a third time....if someone "famous" has done something ILLEGAL then they should be arrested not have a 90 documentary about it.
If some of these who have been mentioned here (by their initials🙄) have been "known" to have done X, and/or behaved inappropriately or whatever so much that a bunch of journalists can talk about it for 90 minutes why has the person not been arrested?

Same reason Savile was protected? Police, politicians, half the entire BBC, hell even Johnny Rotten (only one of the many with the courage to say it btw) knew about that fucker.

Either it's something not illegal, but frowned upon (like being a pervy letch) amongst a large group, or it's very illegal and someone dead or about to die, is my view. They don't attack establishment stars, politicians or royals in their prime.

This is exactly what I thought too. If there is a raft of evidence from several sources why not take it to the police?
Surely a TV documentary could jeopardise a fair trial?

I am surprised MNHQ hasn't zapped this thread tbh.

justasking111 · 15/09/2023 18:02

It'll be a damp squib to most of Mumsnet who've sussed out these stories eons ago 😂😂

Dabralor · 15/09/2023 18:03

@IClaudine I agree - it's something institutional. Must be for this particular show and you can almost imagine the frantic legal to-ing and fro-ing that's probs been happening behind the scenes to get it shut down.

So am I!

NetZeroZealot · 15/09/2023 18:04

I don't think it's another sex scandal.

Far more likely to be a political story. Maybe in relation to a major infrastructure project.

ButtonSister · 15/09/2023 18:05

Is the Queen or Prince Philip due to die again? 🥱

TucSandwich · 15/09/2023 18:05

I've never known how to!!

Very many men were leches back then.

Still are.

That's hardly the stuff of prime time feature length TV specials though.

No one's mentioned an octogenarian singer

I've been waiting decades for this one.

oioicheeky · 15/09/2023 18:06

Redebs · 15/09/2023 15:43

I think Charles is going to step aside and let William play at king.
It will probably be presented as a health thing, but on reality will be related to royal paedophile issues going back over decades to Mountbatten etc etc. There has always been a run of accusations on 'goings on' in the royal household.

I think it could be this.

Can you imagine though? After spending all that money on his coronation?

ManateeFair · 15/09/2023 18:06

It would have to be a very, very big deal to warrant a 90-minute edition of C4 Dispatches. 'Someone who used to be on Mock The Week [or similar] being a bit of a lech' would absolutely not make the grade for that. It would need to be about something criminal that was subject to an institutional cover-up for a long time and/or someone extremely famous.

eg Someone famous having a relationship that was (to quote Schofield) "Unwise, but not illegal" would not qualify. Dispatches isn't a celeb scandal kind of show, it's an institutional failings/exposing criminal activity programme. So probably more like a Savile or a Weinstein situation than a Philip Schofield / Huw Edwards one.
