Apparently the biggest news story of the year is going to break over the weekend

It’s all overTwitter, or X as it’s now called. One of the Sunday papers is working on a massive story and all staff weekend leave has been cancelled. Channel 4 is showing an episode of ‘Dispatches’ tomorrow night at 9pm but haven’t said what it’s about and lots of people are putting two and two together and saying it’s in conjunction with the following days papers.

Both Krishnan Guru-Murthy and Dom Joly (in retweeting) have used the word 'UP'...

I have no idea if that means anything Grin

Dom also hashtagged "metoo" underneath. Could the UP refer to Stand Up comic?

Dispatches will clash with the Ireland match in the Rugby World Cup. That 'll limit their audience a bit.

Feck. Sets Dispatches to record and ignores social media.

Greensleeves · 15/09/2023 16:17

I suspect Mountbatten and Kincora/Classiebawn. Possibly with links to living royals? There are ongoing legal proceedings in the Kincora case, maybe there's something new and damning.

TeenLifeMum · 15/09/2023 16:18

I’d love to say I don’t care but now I’m far too over invested in this.

Years ago a journalist friend who worked at The Times told me that they had a lot of info about the royal family but that on the instructions of Murdoch it would never be published during the Queen's lifetime out of respect. The timing of this, now that it is more than a year since the Queen died, makes me wonder......

Respect for the mother of a human trafficker and likely paedophile and sexual abuser who covered up for him and then had long term plans to reintegrate him back into public life.

We've an odd notion of who is worthy of respect in this country.

DancingFroglet · 15/09/2023 16:18

The biggest shokc I could receive this weekend is that people still use twitter/x

Unionist Party? As in Conservative and Unionist Party? We can always hope.

VegetablesFightingToReclaimTheAubergieneEmoji · 15/09/2023 16:19

I can’t think of that much that would warrant this type of program
expose on most things would just be a normal dispatches.
one thought I had was football. But I can’t see that being this cloak and dagger. Pretty serious stuff gets covered in the usual way. So what is it that would be covered like this?

Angrycat2768 · 15/09/2023 16:20

Maybe it's to do with the NHS whistleblowing/ surgeons thing? Although that was revealedd last week. I hope its not going to be something crushingly disappointing. I'm thinking a sudden reveal on Saturday followed by a TV programme is some kind of political or showbiz scandal rather than something serious.

LetMeEnfoldYou · 15/09/2023 16:20

PomPomSugar · 15/09/2023 16:02

It’s Russell Brand

Why would historic (and let's face it unsurprising) stories about him warrant huge news status and a 90minute tv investigation?

He's a known drug abuser, misogynist, and all round creepy bastard. And literally the word news means...new stories. And that one's a few decades old.

houseonthehill · 15/09/2023 16:21

Quite a lot around that it might be The Cesspit That Is UK Comedy. But is that Dispatches-worthy?

Willmafrockfit · 15/09/2023 16:22

UP is viagra isnt it?

WimbyAce · 15/09/2023 16:22

Surely Royal or political?

MsLavender · 15/09/2023 16:23

Ahh I think I know who it is now judging by the clues on Twitter and Tattle, someone has suggested his name under Dom Jolys "MeToo" tweet in the form of a GIF, also his name has been suggested on Tattle. If you Google his name (SC + Mentalist) a skit comes up where he uses "Mentalist" (Popbitch clue ..fund a mentalist).

SC if I'm correct.

IrrationalUser · 15/09/2023 16:24

Dom Joly is quite vocal around conspiracy theories isn't he? What's he had to say lately?

clarepetal · 15/09/2023 16:24

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 15/09/2023 14:07

Really? Almost 3000 people have just been killed in Morocco, and 11000 confirmed - but possibly up to 30000 - dead in Libya following catastrophic events; as well as all sorts of other things happening in the world, and a breakfast TV presenter's alleged naughtiness is the news story of the year?

I despair of people's priorities these days.

Agreed.

MsLavender · 15/09/2023 16:27

Also SC had a radio show with the name called "Up " which could be the Up clue perhaps.

That’s why I was thinking it’s linked to the China spying case. And someone senior /someone who was previously senior in government.

Loafie · 15/09/2023 14:43

Or Paddington

We all saw poor Paddington being shafted by Hugh Grant/Jeremy Thorpe.

Butterkist8 · 15/09/2023 16:31

There were a few tantalising hints last night on X. It smelt like a royal story but I'm not convinced. I'm erring on the side of a comedy person.

Willmafrockfit · 15/09/2023 16:31

Me Too

Jaemoon · 15/09/2023 16:33

Maybe it was about XL dogs being banned 🧐

nebulae · 15/09/2023 16:34

SC isn't big enough to warrant this, surely?
