Apparently the biggest news story of the year is going to break over the weekend

It’s all overTwitter, or X as it’s now called. One of the Sunday papers is working on a massive story and all staff weekend leave has been cancelled. Channel 4 is showing an episode of ‘Dispatches’ tomorrow night at 9pm but haven’t said what it’s about and lots of people are putting two and two together and saying it’s in conjunction with the following days papers.

O.K I have thought far too much about this.

I was listening to a Times Radio podcast about the Chinese spy story a few weeks ago. There were two points that were made a couple of times:

  1. How few people in government/ parliament had been made aware of this and this was really surprising.
  2. That prior to becoming security minister, Tom T had contact with the alleged spy. They laboured the point that if someone in government had, had contact with him it would be a massive deal.

Hence, I reckon someone in government has had contact with the alleged spy.

It is a bit less interesting than some of the other ideas. But politically significant.

fuckssaaaaake · 15/09/2023 15:56

It's aliens

My money is on the 2nd born son of a recently deceased monarch.

Perhaps a certain woman in prison has spilled the beans. Heaven knows who else is involved.

Ooooh, most likely suggestion yet, I reckon.

draperp · 15/09/2023 15:56

Years ago a journalist friend who worked at The Times told me that they had a lot of info about the royal family but that on the instructions of Murdoch it would never be published during the Queen's lifetime out of respect. The timing of this, now that it is more than a year since the Queen died, makes me wonder......

Agreed. I don't think it's the big romance everyone thinks it is but I do think they are a reasonably settled couple and they both clearly love their children. I can't see them ever splitting. I also think they respect the memory of QE too much for another royal divorce.

Given the history with his Mother and Father I think it is very unlikely they will divorce if they did divorce I think the Monarchy would be over. Harry and Meghan I could see them divorcing but would that be the story of the year?

It may be politically significant. But is it worthy of a prime time Dispatches special? How many people outside Westminster really care about this sort of thing?

Redebs · 15/09/2023 15:57

Ok, if not King Charlie, then maybe a big expose on the Met that leads to total reorganisation?

WimbyAce · 15/09/2023 15:57

When do we find out?

That's nothing to do with #metoo though? Unless you're referring to the Spy and Tom T getting frisky...

Brightredtulips · 15/09/2023 15:58

It's Harry and Meghan are splitting up.

Redebs · 15/09/2023 15:58

Is there a prize for the closest guess?

blankittyblank · 15/09/2023 15:59

Brightredtulips · 15/09/2023 15:58

It's Harry and Meghan are splitting up.

That wouldn't warrant a 90 minute investigative Dispatches program though

sleepismyhobby · 15/09/2023 15:59

Either war or aliens as everyone is obsessed with aliens just now?

Tryingmybestadhd · 15/09/2023 16:00

fuckssaaaaake · 15/09/2023 15:56

It's aliens

Maybe it is , all the alien stuff coming out , I can’t stop myself from thinking they are letting the idea seep so it’s not a massive panic .

SandGroperNomad · 15/09/2023 16:00

It’s going to be about sexual assault within NHS training programmes by NHS staff.

sep135 · 15/09/2023 16:00

Tattle seems to be suggesting a number of 1990s/2000s comedians.

SurferRona · 15/09/2023 16:00

HuwEdwardsBottom · 15/09/2023 14:08

Huw Edwards allegedly had a mental health crisis after his name (and the photo of his arse) was leaked online and he ended up as in patient at a hospital. That’s why the story vanished.

An arse, anyway. It is widely agreed it is a clever bit of photo manipulation, think the creator fessed up. Everyone now and then I wonder at the credulity of people who respond to foreign states’ mass manipulation of SM, then I see posts like this….

Sidebeforeself · 15/09/2023 16:02

@jays “ I’ve had the same fucking carrier bag for about ten years”!! That’s killed me!😄

PomPomSugar · 15/09/2023 16:02

It’s Russell Brand

Yes, there's a lot on social media about comedians

But also a fair amount on the Royal Family

So perhaps it's a three-way affair between a handsome alien, David Walliams and the Duke of York?

placemats · 15/09/2023 16:02

WimbyAce · 15/09/2023 15:57

When do we find out?

Tomorrow night. I reckon we don't lose too much sleep over it.

It'll be a royal, and perhaps other significant members of the political and glitterati world; it's about a me too scandal.

CoffeeCantata · 15/09/2023 16:03

PB says "one of the weekend papers is braced to drop an explosive story we hear will open up a whole new front on #MeToo."
It may yet be spiked though.
I do hope it doesn't involve either Dame Judi or Bagpuss.

Or, please God, David Attenborough. 😀

I can't remember who was a comedian then who isn't still now. And I can't imagine channel 4 doing a special on them?

IcedPurple · 15/09/2023 16:03

PomPomSugar · 15/09/2023 16:02

But is a has been comedian really worthy of a feature length Dispatches special on a Saturday night?

LakeTiticaca · 15/09/2023 16:03

blankittyblank · 15/09/2023 15:51

Rolf harris

We already know about Rolf Harris He was tried and convicted. He's dead so I can't imagine it being about him
