Apparently the biggest news story of the year is going to break over the weekend

It’s all overTwitter, or X as it’s now called. One of the Sunday papers is working on a massive story and all staff weekend leave has been cancelled. Channel 4 is showing an episode of ‘Dispatches’ tomorrow night at 9pm but haven’t said what it’s about and lots of people are putting two and two together and saying it’s in conjunction with the following days papers.

I think Charles is going to step aside and let William play at king.
It will probably be presented as a health thing, but on reality will be related to royal paedophile issues going back over decades to Mountbatten etc etc. There has always been a run of accusations on 'goings on' in the royal household.

No way. I'd be absolutely stunned if this was true

I reckon they'll stay together, even if they hate each other. Their marketing machine is too strong.

I always knew Bagpuss was a wrong 'un

Last I heard was the bets are on as to whether Bagpuss is the giver or the receiver.

Too close to call, in my view.

defi · 15/09/2023 15:45

  • she literally carries the royal family, I doubt they'd let her go peacefully
IrrationalUser · 15/09/2023 15:46

Why do the press do this click bait stuff? It's either something inconsequential and they're trying to make drama out of it.

Or

It's a criminal act in which case why aren't the police involved and why are they sitting on it until the weekend?

IcedPurple · 15/09/2023 15:46

RoseAndRose · 15/09/2023 15:37

Doubt it

  • embargo is voluntary, usually used to give the press a heads up - eg text of an announcement, so you can prepare, but no publication until the Minister/Monarch/whoever actually speaks
  • D Notice, technically voluntary, but well respected as it pertains only to important military/security issues eg "I can't say how many flew on the mission, but I counted them out and I counted them all back in again"
  • injunction - can't see how this would apply, as usually its to ban a story from publication (possibly even banning mention of existence of it in the case of a super-injunction). Binds everyone, not something to be used against competitors. More possible, the subject of the expose has been trying to injunct, but right now Channel4 are free to broadcast and they are confident it'll still be OK tomorrow

But we're talking about a gossip site, not a newspaper.

Folks there could easily drop hints, as they have done, accurately, on previous scandalous stories yet to break. But this time, they don't seem to have a clue.

Needmorelego · 15/09/2023 15:46

If William and Kate (Catherine - her name is Catherine 🙄) were divorcing why would it need an hour and a half news report/ documentary on Channel 4?
It takes about 30 seconds to say the words "It has been announced that X and X are divorcing".
What more would we need to know?

Thegoodbadandugly · 15/09/2023 15:46

I wonder if it has anything to do with the war in Ukraine?

Iwasafool · 15/09/2023 15:46

placemats · 15/09/2023 15:28

Whilst Charles is King? Gosh that would be shocking. Everyone knows about it though.

How long has he been dead? Over 40 years isn't it. It's almost ancient history. I imagine it wouldn't be pleasant but it's a bit stale isn't it.

I mean I'm old and remember him but I'd have thought most of the population e.g. people under 50 wouldn't have much interest in him.

JulianFawcettMP · 15/09/2023 15:47

Charles abdicating or Kate and William divorcing would not break like this seems to be. It wouldn't be a Dispatches programme and Sunday Times exclusive. It would be an announcement from the palace.

Yalta · 15/09/2023 15:48

Maybe they found the Loch Ness Monster 🤣

I might just watch the news for that

hopeishere · 15/09/2023 15:48

Yeah a divorce or Charles abdicating are not investigative stories.

A woman perpetrator would be a new angle.

There were also some very horrible rumours about Harry when he was on active service.

Yep, Posh and Becks of the BRF. No way they will ruin the brand no matter the rumours.

Agreed. I don't think it's the big romance everyone thinks it is but I do think they are a reasonably settled couple and they both clearly love their children. I can't see them ever splitting. I also think they respect the memory of QE too much for another royal divorce.

Well the link to Channel4 says it's got a #MeToo theme.

And I think that probably could be stretched quite a bit (in interests of not giving the game away, as they quite clearly want to tease). But I think that might be a stretch too far

My thinking also.

Frenchie333 · 15/09/2023 15:50

Who is the Australian perv mentioned earlier who died in May?

FancyFanny · 15/09/2023 15:51

I think they've found aliens!

Rolf harris

BirdiePlantaganet · 15/09/2023 15:51

Even though William and Kate divorcing would be major gossip, there’s absolutely no way this would be covered in this way. It would be carefully stage managed and announced by the palace.

Could be.

Kate and Wills been in the papers an awful lot this week. Charles hasn't really done much since becoming King. Royal family has had its day. I think they know this and William really is the only one that could possibly revive the whole show. Noone likes Charles and Camilla - do they?

I hadn't heard rumours about Harry's time on active service but at the moment he is getting lots of good press about Invictus so would seem a bit strange to be about him. Having said that I don't have a clue so I suppose it could be anyone.

We never got to the bottom of who the woman was that Boris gave a peerage to who everyone said was his daughter.. I don't think she is his daughter, but I do think there's a lot more to that story...

I agree not his daughter but something fishy about it.

placemats · 15/09/2023 15:54

My money is on the 2nd born son of a recently deceased monarch.

Perhaps a certain woman in prison has spilled the beans. Heaven knows who else is involved.
