American Bully XL to be banned by end of year

SunshineHello · 15/09/2023 11:51

Rishi Sunak has just announced these dogs are to be banned.

Good riddance - who needs a big aggressive dog like that? It’s hardly a family pet.

I do however suspect the ven diagram of ‘people that own an American Bully XL’ and ‘people who will be interested in following this law’ may have a limited overlap however.

Dumb fucking idiot scumbags

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 15/09/2023 18:15

Staffies shouldn't be anywhere near as big as an XL bully.

I was so happy to see this today. Needs to happen. It’s not the whole answer - the whole culture of wanting to seem tough on these estates etc needs stamping out - but it’s a start.

Exactly. If it had been people in naice middle class areas with these issues then the van would have been sorted months ago. The owners make their local areas a misery.

Excellent news. I hope all the “pet” ones are ordered to be put down.

@TheBarbieEffect

What a horrible thing to say! There will be many responsible owners of this dog breed who love their dogs very much and care for them responsibly, many adopted from rescues too I imagine.

I can only hope you get appropriate karma in return.

I am a big dog lover but don't disagree that such large strong dogs are a big risk, and welcome the restrictions on breeding and sale that the DDA would require. But the real issue is the overbreeding leading to many of these dogs in inappropriate ownership. Current dog legislation has been aimed at the wrong end of the lead for over 30 years and has proven to be completely ineffective.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 15/09/2023 18:29

I think it should just be made harder for the general public to own ANY type or breed of dog, make it as hard, expensive and inconvenient as possible and those who are actually fully responsible owners and working dogs will be the only ones left

And I bet I could describe fairly accurately how those voters look and how extensive their vocabulary is 😅

Let's face it. The people that own XL bullies don't have a lot going on in their pathetic lives. They can't do. What sane person would buy one?

They're as thick as shit. What they may have done is just fated every single bull breed in the country and do you know what. I don't care. They can all go. Does it look like a bull breed? Yes? Then muzzle and neuter it.

We don't need bull breeds when we have too many human beings with not enough to do and the IQ of a turd.

Ceralee · 15/09/2023 18:33

If councils banned dog ownership from council /social housing the problem would be drastically reduced. I don't care who this offends, it's true. I know this would penalise innocent people but the rights of people not to be savaged by fuckwits with penis extension monsters trumps anyone's right to own a dog.

You say that but I love in a nice middle class area and a chav in another estates xl bully killed her neighbours dog. Poloce sent a warning letter saying it needs to be muzzled in public...she's ignored it and walks it around a park where children are. Owners of the deceased dog ate so traumatised they've moved away from the area.

Theres so many of these idiots encouraging others to sign it on tiktok live right now. They’re even trying to organise groups of people to block motorways in protest of the ban. They’re talking about the Birmingham attack on the young girl as a fake by the government and talking about covid all being made up. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ They don’t have a brain cell between them. They all sound rough.

That petition will be full of names of people that the world could do without. 😬

Completely agree . They terrify me you can see by their body language they are just waiting to attack . They get these dogs as weapons and they are bred for fighting . I want licences brought back and the GOV needs to ban backyard breeding . Anyone ever seen how they are training these horrible things . In our area a guy who had 2 of them was arrested as he was stealing people's cats . I can't even tell you the rest of it it's too fucking upsetting . I hope they destroy all of them .

This.

And also gumtree and the likes shouldn’t be allowing pets to be advertised. It’s an easy way for puppy farms and those who literally haven’t got a clue what they’re doing to make a fast buck.

bombastix · 15/09/2023 19:20

@superplumb - I don't say it never happens but I note it is generally babies, children and adults who suffer the most.

Mostly these dogs are owned by criminals or delusional women who claim that 70kg with jaws that can crush a skull are full of love. There is an idiot woman on the BBC saying that. Both sections of society are antisocial in different ways.

Redandpinkstripes · 15/09/2023 19:20

I'm so sick of being out and looking over my shoulder when walking my dog. It's not just the xl bullies. My dogs have been turned on by Staffies too. It is terrifying.

Ceralee · 15/09/2023 19:21

The government shouldnt be worried about losing votes by banning all dogs like these because the tripe of person that owns them wouldn't get out of bed to vote anyway.

I pray the legislation is hardcore enough even if it affects dog owners like me (spaniels). I don't care. Grown human beings shouldn't be being killed by dogs in the street.

I have so much fucking rage running through me that anyone could be thinking about saving these lethal dogs when an elderly lady has just watched her adult son savaged by xl Bully's to death in front of her. 😭

Going to need a drink tonight and stay off Facebook!!

bombastix · 15/09/2023 19:24

A good start is to say if you keep a banned animal in social housing you void your tenancy. It's going to become criminal keep one so that seems reasonable

Stressedafff · 15/09/2023 19:29

Good. Sick of the sight of them
Hopefully they can all be destroyed once bans in place.
Breeding needs regulating in this country.
You can go on instagram and find elaborate cinematic style advertising for XL bully studs/bitches out to be bred. It’s so wrong, no wonder half these dogs are fucked

Cant wait to hear from the “it’s the owner” brigade, sick to death of dog owners and their blatant disregard for anyone other than themselves and their dogs. It’s bad enough with the amount of dog shit everywhere.

holidays23 · 15/09/2023 19:32

Massive dog lover here, grew up with rescues and have an 8 year old spaniel (who's absolutely nuts but is trained to within an inch of his life to the point that he lays in his bed if he hears a plate being moved because he knows humans are about to eat and he can't have any) but they absolutely petrify me.

There is one who walks around our local field/park where I take my daughter and our dog and if I see it, I completely change direction.

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 15/09/2023 19:32

Good.

bumblebee1987 · 15/09/2023 19:45

About bloody time. Shame it took so many deaths and maulings before they actually took action.

Of course, banning the breed is a good start, but more needs to be done. ALL dogs need to be treated as weapons in terms of the law. If your dog mauls someone, then you should be held accountable and there should be MUCH harsher punishments.

I work with dogs, I love dogs. I am sick to death of hearing that stupid line 'it's how they are raised, no dog is born bad.' This is ABSOLUTELY not true. Are we surprised when collies instinctively herd? No, we aren't because it is their nature. Nature AND nurture come to play with all dogs. Allowing people to walk around with these dogs is like letting people lose with loaded AK47s. Sure, all dogs can bite, but the majority can't kill with a single bite.

I feel sorry for the dogs, but NO ONE who has these dogs is a responsible owner. NO ONE. For a variety of reasons.

lljkk · 15/09/2023 19:45

a lot of the dogs pictured to have committed these horrific attacks won't fit the traditional definition of an XL bully.

That dog filmed in Bromsley Green, did not look like what I thought an XL bully was. Much too small. I predict that the forthcoming definition would not have covered that BG dog.

Boudicasbeard · 15/09/2023 19:59

Good. Now let’s sort out the absolutely disgraceful mess that is back yard dog breeding. You should need to be checked and licensed to breed dogs.

And I agree with the social housing thing. I live on a road of mixed houses and it is really only the social housing that is overflowing with pets. Pets that get left outside all day, not looked after properly and then bred from to make extra cash. It is animal abuse.

Floopyfloop · 15/09/2023 20:06

I am so glad the government has made this decision. These are not pets, they are status symbols for people who want to intimidate others.

They also need to act on the inbreeding of exotic bully’s. This abomination is what happens… https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=3403084859954996&id=100007605465504

Good.

Just waiting for someone to come along and say the majority of dog bites are by labradors. Yawn.

God yes, they think they're so insightful. The reason most bites are from labradors is purely because there's far more of them than any other breed. Can't remember anyone being killed by a Labrador either?

Can only imagine the absolute carnage if there were as many American Bullies XL on the streets as there are labradors.

Skogrammy · 15/09/2023 20:13

Thank god for that. I hate them.
