American Bully XL to be banned by end of year

Rishi Sunak has just announced these dogs are to be banned.

Good riddance - who needs a big aggressive dog like that? It’s hardly a family pet.

I do however suspect the ven diagram of ‘people that own an American Bully XL’ and ‘people who will be interested in following this law’ may have a limited overlap however.

I disagree. My friend breeds them and has two herself. She runs a kennels, dog grooming service and a natural treat shop. Her dogs are lovely, well mannered, well trained with excellent recall. They play great with my poodle/spaniel cross. She does already muzzle them when out in public. She also has horses and a four year old child. Another friend has two, too. Again, lovely dogs who have grown up with her young children.
My sister has always had large/giant breeds - Doberman, Rottweiler, French mastiffs and now an English bulldog. All soppy lumps! Another friend has four rescued Cane Corso - are they going to be banned too? They're huge and weigh more than me but are very soft and obedient as she's trained them well. They don't get walked much as they attract a lot of negative attention so she has a field for them to run in.
My friends with xl bully's are so worried.

Some of the images of these hideous beasts are going to give me nightmares. I am truly terrified of these dogs and the people who own them .

sawnotseen · 16/09/2023 01:49

Both of my friends with XL Bulls are professional women. One with her own very well regarded and successful dog related business and the other is a primary school teacher. My sister is a director of a charity and my friend with the cane corsos owns,with her husband, a property maintenance company. None of them are 'chavvy'.

This is the most grotesque thing I have ever seen . The Breeders should be fucking ashamed. This is not a family pet !!

@Wiccan I agree. Some breeders are despicable

sawnotseen · 16/09/2023 02:40

@Devilsmommy both of my friends who have XL bulls are what you would call 'middle class' (whatever that means). Both are Professional women with good jobs or own business, house owners (mortgage free by 52), well educated, with well brought up children who are now at uni or working.
Would you really advocate killing these animals?

Oh and my daughter had an injury from jumping her pony. Should our pony have been PTS? I've been kicked by a horse which bloody hurt - should he have been PTS? My friend had her jaw broken by her horse - should her horse have been PTS?
Yes I will be the one to say that the only dog who has bitten me was my friend's Maltese and the only dogs to have attacked my dog (spaniel/poodle cross) are terriers and a dachshund

Yes I would. After watching that man get torn apart all those dogs can die as far as I'm concerned. Yes they may be well trained but the potential is there and if it means all those untrained ones are gone then I'm sorry but your friend can just get another breed of dog

Nor is it typical of the dogs most people here are waving their pitchforks at

Sux2buthen · 16/09/2023 05:12

@Devilsmommy no, it's not true.
Single mothers on council estates are chavvy?
Anyone that uses that word or has those opinions isn't worth listening to anyway

Devilsmommy · 16/09/2023 05:16

@Sux2buthen no not all single mothers on council estates are chavvy, but some are and if you're trying to make out like chavs don't exist then you've clearly got your head up your arse

Sux2buthen · 16/09/2023 05:25

@Devilsmommy I don't call people things like that because I'm not an ignorant cunt🤷🏻‍♀️
Each to their own though
As an aside I don't disagree with the ban but many of the comments here are exposing some absolute...silly Billy's

Devilsmommy · 16/09/2023 05:27

@Sux2buthen oh I'm sorry, are you the only ignorant cunt allowed on here then?

Flamedmoth · 15/09/2023 13:41

This is a classic example. One of these is an xl bully, two are cross breeds, 5 are pedigree of another (currently allowed) set of breeds.

How would you differentiate?

I think A or D is the XLB

It’s irrelevant what the owners do for work. Why would you think that’s relevant?

Seychal · 16/09/2023 06:13

Prescottdanni123 · 15/09/2023 22:46

@PeterssonnLndon

I know plenty of people who own staffies. Non of them are chavs, none of them are on drugs or live on council estates. They are all compete opposites of what you describe so that blows that argument out of the water.

The argument is irrelevant. They are getting banned and that's a great thing.

Yes, owning a business and a house doesn't put you above the law 🤨

I don't think existing dogs will be killed. Just subject to restrictions such as muzzles, leashes, neutering and destroyed if aggressive. That seems proportionate given the amount of horrific attacks involving these bull breeds.

A horse isn't really a good comparison...yes horses result in injuries but, as someone who doesn't want to get kicked by a horse or thrown off a horse, I find it remarkably easy to avoid that happening!

Seychal · 16/09/2023 06:23

sawnotseen · 16/09/2023 02:31

@Wiccan I agree. Some breeders are despicable

If the owners are the problem and not the dogs then perhaps it is time to neuter the owners.

Prescottdanni123 · 16/09/2023 06:38

@Seychal

Staffies aren't getting banned actually. The point I was addressing was made by someone advocating for staffies to be banned as well and saying they are all are owned by chavs.

Totally different to them launching at members of the public and horses are put down if their behaviour is too dangerous. In fact it happens an awful lot more than in the dog world.

Heres the story re inbreeding.

Kimbo was bred by Los Angeles-based breeder Gustavo Castro and is reportedly born from a brother-sister pairing, and his grandparents shared the same father.

I don't give a tinker's cuss who owns these mottled killers.
Their class- or lack of it- makes no odds.

they make me ill to look at them knowing their potential for violence and aggression.

They turn on their owners. {Edit} that wouldn't bother me as much as the stupid owner's choice and arrogance to own these killers- but these brutes turn on innocent passers by and nice, innocent dogs and other animals.

Hideous things.

Boudicasbeard · 16/09/2023 07:06

The pony comment is ridiculous. If you fall off a horse then that was your fault, not the pony’s fault. If you get bitten then it will hurt but not kill.

People don’t died because they’ve been savaged to death by their pony. Because even the most vile tempered horse isn’t genetically disposed to maul a person to death (and I have known some vile tempered horses).

People saying that their friends are ‘good’ XL breeders- no, they aren’t. They are engaged in a process only for profit to create an animal whose only purpose is to fight other animals. They were never meant to be family pets. And someone is selling these beasts to families. Any XL Bully breeder who sells one of these fighting dogs to a family with young kids needs to be investigated. It is so irresponsible.

And any breeder involved in breed improvement for size, muscle or aggressive is off their beds and needs to be charged with possession of a dangerous weapon with intent to harm.

Idiots!

oakleaffy · 16/09/2023 07:10

To compare a horse to a killer XL Bully or Sh*t Bull type {as they are often called in USA} is just mind numbingly stupid.

Typical XL and sh*tbull apologist argument ''But what about chihuahuas ...but what about ponies .

Boudicasbeard · 16/09/2023 07:10

@sawnotseen

How many people have to die or been mauled for you to wake up and see that this particular dog breed (and many of the varieties) are not compatible with the modern world. Dog fighting was banned over a century ago. These dogs have no place here. It is deeply unfair to them, quite cruel actually, to breed them and then put them in scenarios that they cannot cope with.

The breeders are entirely at fault here, as are the people buying them as family pets. No more breeding. Sterilise them all- and all the American bully variants. Let them die out naturally. And be muzzled everywhere until they do. No more puppies.
