American Bully XL to be banned by end of year

Rishi Sunak has just announced these dogs are to be banned.

Good riddance - who needs a big aggressive dog like that? It’s hardly a family pet.

I do however suspect the ven diagram of ‘people that own an American Bully XL’ and ‘people who will be interested in following this law’ may have a limited overlap however.

A lot of dog attacks do stem from irresponsible or cruel owners though. A lot of XL bullies are owned by people who want a dog or a status symbol and can't or don't want to control them properly. There will be dogs who are genetically wired to be aggressive who have never had the chance to attack anyone because their responsible owners have kept them under control.

Plus humans bred them for aggression so we have to take the blame really.

Someone else mentioned it earlier but these dogs are ugly as hell too. I really dislike staffies too. Small eyes, fat and some of these dogs have skin that looks like an elderly penis. I literally don't get it.

I can see the appeal of small dogs and cute dogs with large eyes. Fluffy ones.

I absolutely understand how you feel about your children not feeling safe in their own garden.

They can crash through weak fencing very easily. Surely it's up top your neighbours to put up strong, dog safe fencing as they have a dangerous type of dog.

I know plenty of people who own staffies. Non of them are chavs, none of them are on drugs or live on council estates. They are all compete opposites of what you describe so that blows that argument out of the water.

I grew up with dogs and prising a ball from a Retriever was so easy, even our Collie bless him but trying to get my child's destroyed ball from my in laws pig dog Staffie was a no go. I dread to think of the jaw on and XL bully.

A few months ago a little girl near me was mauled by an XLB. The girls father was on fb doing the 'names now!' statuses, claiming he was going to 'destroy' the owner of the dog.

The same father has 2 XLB's living in the same house as his 2 young kids - describes them as 'weapons' and has pictures on FB of his little girls holding the leads alone, walking the unmuzzled dogs. They are still pups at about 9 months old but are fucking massive already - just thick as shit.

I think it should be illegal to have these dogs in the same house as little ones. Some people are too gormless to see the dangers so the law needs to step in and protect these kids from their feckless parents choices.

I agree. The amount of parents you are allowing these dogs to lie on their babies or get in bed with their toddlers. Social services need involving at this point cos they’ve clearly not got any concept of safety or child protection.
