Florida for the weekend - stupid idea?

clpsmum · 13/09/2023 17:12

There is an event in Florida two of my children really want to go to. The only way we could do it would be to fly out on Friday and back on Monday. I've not been long haul for many many years. Is it a stupid idea or is it doable? I'm in the UK

We've not been abroad in twelve years so I won't beat myself up too much

Go for it i havent been abroad for 15 yrs ignore all the posters trying too make you feel guilty i doubt your one flight abroad and back in over a decade will contribute much to the state of the planet if i had the chance i would grab it enjoy!

Crackers. I got my arse kicked on MN about flying to the UK from Aus for 8 weeks to see my family after Covid - my Dad having been diagnosed with cancer.

I was really grilled about the environmental impact. Then this thread - everybody is saying rock on for 4 days!!

The Op hasent been abroad at all iin 12 years!

The Op hasent been abroad at all iin 12 years!

She was asking for tips for what to see in Paris a few days ago.

She's also in the middle of buying a new car.

But apparently in June she couldn't make ends meet, had no savings, and was constantly exceeding her overdraft. See above.

None of it makes sense.

clpsmum · 14/09/2023 10:00

@Superfood not that I have to explain myself to you. But my car is a notability car and I've had a death in the family and inherited some money. Anyhow hope that my bad luck makes your judgemental self feel better

Yea everyday. I'm over my overdraft limit constantly and have no savings and just cannot make ends meet

yet you're also posting about buying a new car and flying 3 people to florida for the weekend. What happened between june and now to change your life from constantly over my overdraft limit and can't make ends meet to can easily fly 3 people to florida and buy a new car?

which bit is true?

See above! My car is a notability car and my dad died and left me a little bit of money. Hope that my life and circumstances make sense to you now. Not that it has to make sense to you Ot is your business

@clpsmum I am extremely sorry to hear about your dad.

I still think that, unless he left you a really huge sum of money (you describe it as a little bit of money so I don't think so), then I would not be spending several thousand pounds on a 2 day holiday to florida, if back in June you were absolutely destitute.

MariePaperRoses · 14/09/2023 10:08

I d o it but make sure both of them understand that flights could be delayed which is out of your control and all you would have to just suck it up.

Hopefully there will be no delays and you will have a fantastic time.

Chichix · 14/09/2023 10:12

They're trying to do wrestlemania in London in the next few years if that makes any difference.
If you can do the weekend, go for it. What an experience 😍

clpsmum · 14/09/2023 10:15

@Superfood thank you I appreciate it. It's not much money and unfortunately I'm in a situation money wise that will not change. I'd just once like to do something extravagant for the kids though.

Surely thats up to the Op i also have a disabled child and havent had any kind of holiday in five years if i came into.a bit of money ,than i too would book a holiday for my family wether others think thats sensible or not

I can totally understand that but I think you risk it being extremely expensive, tiring and stressful, especially if one of your children has disabilities.

London event could be a compromise for you as a pp suggested, without spending a fortune.

It's your decision obviously but in your position I think I'd try to hang on to a bit of the money and have the adventure closer to home.

I totally get that but I also think if you're not particularly wealthy and this money is a one off...you want the best value for money you can get. For the cost of the weekend in Florida, you might actually be better off having a week in Spain/Greece next summer?

Comedycook · 14/09/2023 10:25

When I first read your post I assumed you were quite well off. I totally get wanting a holiday with the money....but I also think you should get as much holiday as you can with it. Two days in Florida sounds exciting for sure but it's a short amount of time for a lot of money. I'd be having a good look online and trying to use the money for a longer trip somewhere.

Bit odd that you seem to be stalking the OP's posts in this manner?

Kids will be 13 & 17 and would love for it to be a holiday but it really only could be for the three days unfortunately. It's crazy but I know it's on their bucket lists and they'd remember forever. Thinking it could be their Xmas presents

If you can afford it, do it!!

She's a prolific poster and I remembered her posting about her desperate financial situation previously.

It is hardly "stalking" and it comes with a lot more consideration for the real human being who's asking the question, compared to all the people just egging her on and telling her to go ahead because they themselves are rolling in money and wouldn't think twice about spending thousands on a long weekend away.

I didn't know this. That would be easier for sure!

It's really likely something big will come here due to the success of AEW at Wembley and Vince McMahon's involvement with WWE again. He's competitive AF.

As you have limited funds you can also look at VIP seating/meet and greets at UK shows. My husband has been to WWE shows in the UK and Wrestlemania in LA and NY and he says the crowds in the UK are the best. Or if you choose to go to the US pick a time that you can be there longer and go to multiple shows/tapings. It's a lot of money to spend on just one show.

It's obvious that they the money is burning a hole in your pocket, but you can spend that money better and probably do more for less.

clpsmum · 14/09/2023 12:03

I am not a prolific poster

Do what you will 🤷🏻‍♀️ IMHO jet lag can hit like a ton of bricks, even when you are young/not spending a lot of time somewhere, and you are taking a lot of risks for one show over one weekend. it's in January, you may find you're delayed due to winter storms. It's that a risk you can take?

I think you really should look around and run the numbers. You may find going to Philadelphia for Wrestlemania will cost less for more and you will be able to take more time off due to it being Easter holidays.

There are a lot of helpful threads on Reddit where people plan their trips to Wrestlemania, Royal Rumble, Summerslam, etc. It will give you a good idea on costs and transportation (which is one of the biggest issues you'll come across imo).

I think posters are just trying to help OP.

Comedycook · 14/09/2023 12:38

Just out of interest op...in terms of the money, what's more important to you....the event or going abroad?

Live and let live - if OP has the means to do it now, then it doesn't matter what her previous circumstances were

And who are you her mum ?
Im not rolling in it far from and also have limited funds but if i camr into some money i would also be inclined to treat my kids.

Wiii · 14/09/2023 14:23

I think you'll be too knackered to enjoy any of it but good luck to you!
