Very thankful it's on the other side of the glass! But also pretty cool to see, looks like two sacs there ?

I did wonder, where are all those babies going to go once they've hatched ? Hopefully not in the house 😬😬😬

If you like them that much OP, you could come and shift the one that just ran behind my laundry basket. And then the one in the kitchen.

It's spider season 🙁

PaintYourPrettyPicture · 12/09/2023 20:33

The world would be full of flies without them. They don't bother me, my son had some tarantulas, they were very shy peaceful creatures. They spin webs on the floor like a hammock and lay in them whilst shedding.

ThunderCloudsinSumer · 12/09/2023 20:37

Op is that a false widow?

IncompleteSenten · 12/09/2023 20:45

They'll scatter and go find homes of their own. 😁
I've got a massive spider in my bedroom at the moment. I saw her run across the carpet the other day. I've named her Pandora. I think she's tucked herself away somewhere behind the storage boxes. Spiders are so useful in the house.

Not least of all because I get to say I can't do the dusting because I don't want to disturb the webs 😁

saymynamesaymy · 13/09/2023 20:04

No idea if it's a false widow. It's very illusive!
There is one the other side of the window that hasn't made a web but more like a hammock/cocoon that it chills in !

Just found him in the bath, he's definitely a False Widow. DH is out, DD suggested showering him down the drain, but pretty sure they can survive that!

My DD went on an outdoor trip yesterday and spent time in a lake, I pulled out her soaking shoes and threw them in the utility sink… omfg the creature that came out of there! I was running the tap anyway and then it obvs got caught in the plug hole (like a drainer plug hole) so I had to reach in but the tap was running and it kept hitting my hand as I tried to get the drainer plug thing out … this sort of spider I’ve never seen before!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/09/2023 20:58

That's very impressive.

Youve also reminded me of the time when we weren't allowed to put the word 'spider' in a thread title, for fear of upsetting arachnophobes. We had to call them loofahs instead. I wonder when we gave up on that.

IncompleteSenten · 13/09/2023 21:08

Loofahs. That takes me back. That was frannyandzoe wasn't it?

Or was she the 'wakny basket' one?

ThunderCloudsinSumer · 13/09/2023 21:28

Hammock like web is false widows don't Google the bites!

AmicableHonest · 13/09/2023 21:40

I was quite sad to find a big drowned spider in my dogs water bowl this morning. And bemused by the "are you going to do something about that" look my dog was giving me.

JustAnotherCheeseburger · 13/09/2023 21:56

Got myself bitten by a false widow this summer. Wasn't pleasant and it was pretty swollen and nasty for a week (fully gone now though). If you've got them in your garden like we have, then definitely keep antihistamines in your medicine cabinet, the GP suggested I take them every day while the bite was so swollen.

I was only bitten because I accidently leant on it not realising it was there.

We also have a wasp spider in our garden, that looks pretty impressive, even for me and I really hate spiders.

It does have some white markings on its back but I can't get close enough (too scared too) to make them out

I don't remember who started it. I'm reading many spider/loofah threads now to try and puzzle it out.

See, I love the idea of swimming in a lake but then I think of water rats and parasites and think fuck that

Laminate floor board for scale. Spiders are welcome in this house, but he was just Too Big and was evicted.
