Very thankful it's on the other side of the glass! But also pretty cool to see, looks like two sacs there ?

Got 4 spiders now on each pane of glass, starting to think they need to go...

Is this a false widow ?

No. False windows are very dark and have white skull like markings on their backs. I've got two living in my skylights. I leave them be and they go eventually. They do make me nervous though because I know somebody who had to have a finger amputated after a bite and another who spent two weeks in hospital. To be fair, most people will recover very quickly from a bite but I don't want to risk it! If I see them near ground level, they are immediately evicted.

@TheFormidableMrsC while that is a relief there is a few moved in and all have webs, two of them have egg sacs!!

What kind of spider is this do you know ?

It's just a garden spider I think. I'd definitely get them and their sacs out though 😬

saymynamesaymy · 07/10/2023 07:52

Any idea how I can humanely get rid of them all without having to go near them ??

My sister always calls me first when she needs a spider removed but she lives in a another city 😂

saymynamesaymy · 07/10/2023 09:45

😂 she must be desperate !!

Will a broom be a good idea ? I know they might lose some legs but they've literally taken over the patio door now and I keep thinking the babies are going to hatch soon !!

Can you get hold of a long duster and pick them up that way?

truthhurts23 · 07/10/2023 21:15

whatever you do, dont try to move the sack
i tried to move one and 100s of little spiders burst out all over my kitchen

ThunderCloudsinSumer · 07/10/2023 21:58

@saymynamesaymy

It might be actually I saw an article today about someone being hospitalised due to a bite and it showed that spider

saymynamesaymy · 08/10/2023 08:01

But then I would have to burn my duster, and I only have the one 😆
I'm just Gona go for it with the broom I think

There was the most amazing spider web suspended two feet above my washing line the other day. Can't imagine how the beastie made it. Supported by a 6ft strand from the guttering, an 8 ft strand from the garden shed, and two descending strands attached to the washing line.

Worth the effort because it was packed with tiny flies, which (along with the spider herself, sat in the middle) were the only things that made the web visible.

I pegged my washing out super carefully to avoid damaging it. Although the web bounced about like crazy as the washing line moved, it stayed solid as steel cables.

GoodOldEmmaNess · 08/10/2023 08:29

I think the spider in my washing line superweb was the species in the photo a couple of posts above. They are the ones i most commonly see in my garden I think.

dubyalass · 08/10/2023 16:11

The most common garden spider (well, in my garden at least!) Is the garden spider (funny that!), or garden orb weaver Araneus diadematus. Mine keep spinning webs that go across paths so I feel bad for breaking their webs. I have one by the kitchen window and was watching it spin its web yesterday - quite mesmerising. They are HARMLESS to humans, as are the vast majority of spiders if you leave them alone. They will only bite if threatened and even then they're more likely to run away.
