How much time do you get off for Christmas?

No reason for me asking really, I'm just curious. All of the jobs I've had I've only ever got a couple of days off (Xmas day and boxing day) but I'm going to be starting a new office job and looking forward to having a bit more time off over Christmas.

I'm interested to know, what is your job/industry and how long is your Christmas break?

Finishing on the Thursday before and then back the Tuesday after New Years. Have to use Holidays/Unpaid for 2 days over the break.

its not guaranteed as the first year couple of years I worked here we had to go in for twixmas but the past 3 or so year the company have closed giving us those 3 days as extra holidays so not had to use allowance.
This year my last day in the office will be the 22nd and I wont go back until the 2nd January - all without using any annual leave.

DH company shut down the same dates but they have to use 3 days of annual leave for this. However he will be on call some of the time so will get paid on call allowance plus extra for the bank hols plus if he actually has to go anywhere he will get paid more for that. he also gets days back in lieu for the bank hols on call so that cancels out his holidays he uses.

The office is closed from lunchtime in 24th to 27th (assuming weekdays) and again on NY day.

Some years, based on who has said they need to be in and who is happy to wfh, they have closed the building for the working days between Christmas and the following weekend. But we are still functional.

I personally normally have a lot of leave still to take and it's a good chance to take a proper break so I finish either 24th (if staying at home) or 23rd (if travelling "down home" to DPs/DMIL). And then only come back on 6th Jan - but I keep an eye on emails etc and often do admin stuff in that New Year week, and am on call to cover if there is a need in the office.

I work in a school so this year I am off from the 22nd Dec (kids finish on 20th) to 5th Jan (kids back on 8th).

DH gets Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day but sometimes takes a couple of extra days (from his AL allowance). I think he’s taking the 27th this year.
