Dog should be euthanised, owner should be jailed.

MixedTocopherols · 10/09/2023 01:52

Fucking hell, that’s awful. Is that bloke okay, do we know?

I wish I hadn’t watched it Sad

users953269 · 10/09/2023 01:56

That poor man. I don't know any further details.
It looks like the owner is the person in the green top?
The middle of the daytime! Thank goodness there were no babies/ toddlers as they'd probably have been bitten to death.
Awful

Is there a proper news report? Actually sorry, I’ll google

I'm sorry I don't know. I've only seen the video. It's been taken down on tiktok

My God that's terrifying, is there any follow up? Was the dog caught? Are the people attacked ok?
I don't generally like blaming the breed, but unfortunately these dogs are big, powerful and tend to attract a certain type of owner who wants them to be aggressive for status and the aggression is likely being bred in rather than out either through irresponsible money making or by design for more status dogs, or both. I'm not sure a ban would work because the people keeping/breeding the dogs that are the problem are not going to give that up because they are banned - it'd probably make them just more sought after.
I do think something needs to be done, it's a worrying trend that needs reversing, but I'm not sure what.

MixedTocopherols · 10/09/2023 02:03

Nothing is coming up, but perhaps I’m not googling the right things.

I can’t quite see how it could have been a fake video but I’m wondering if it could be from a while ago.

It’s been all over X (twitter) yesterday

GoingToBeLessRubbishAtLife · 10/09/2023 02:37

Just saw that on Reddit. And that man is strong and healthy looking. Imagine a child or pensioner 😔.

Apparently the RSPCA think all dog breeds, including this one, should be allowed. Is that true?

GoingToBeLessRubbishAtLife · 10/09/2023 02:41

@MixedTocopherols here is the video. It’s not nice, but no blood (don’t know what your tolerance levels are, sorry). It is in r/ United Kingdom and is a comment in the RSPCA thread.

Then the police have to shoot it and everyones up in arms.

You should have to justify owning a dog and show your capable to provide for all of its needs including training.

Same as children.

IwishIdidntlikesugar · 10/09/2023 06:39

This is shocking. I can’t see any news report on it either. I hope the person at the end is recovering. I wont be able to stop thinking about this now. Not long ago, someone with a similar dog was walking towards my direction. I decided to move out into the road to avoid being too close. The man called out to me wanting me to know why I had done so because his dog was harmless.

Hollyhocksarenotmessy · 10/09/2023 07:27

This is going to sound odd, but stick with me..that dog isn't acting genuinely aggressive in my not-at-all-expert opinion.

It's playing a fun game (in its own head, in reality yes it's attacking people).

The way it's doing a jump for the arm, after a lollopy waggy tail chase, makes me think the arsehole owner has been doing 'defence training' with it. The 'chase then bite a padded sleeve' type. The dog looks happy and relaxed and confused someone's bashed it. It lets go immediately, which I don't think it would do in an aggressive attack.

This is in no way a defence, more being grateful that it could have been a hell of a lot worse and wasn't. And if I'm right, shows exactly how much of an irresponsible dickhead it's owner is.

MidnightOnceMore · 10/09/2023 07:32

The dog situation is completely out of control. Yet another problem caused by Tory government cuts to councils - dog warden budgets are smaller yet the number of dogs - especially problem dogs - is higher.

The number of deaths from dog attacks has risen.

ErmWhatever · 10/09/2023 07:55

This sounds so absolutely over the top 'peak mumsnet' but I'm shaking after watching that video.
If grown men dont stand a chance against them, how the fuck is anyone else supposed to survive one of their attacks?! Those poor, poor people. I can't imagine how terrified they must have been.

My kid has just started walking to school and has a fear of dogs. I was thinking of buying him the K9 spray, but didn't want to do anything to reinforce his fear because most dogs are fine, but unfortunately, we live in an area with a lot of these. And how can I confidently say most are fine, when it seems 1 in 5 dogs we see are bullys?

Theres no denying something is seriously wrong with this breed.

Not odd at all , I was thinking the same

Tonkerbea · 10/09/2023 08:16

That's such a horrendous watch. I really hope the people it attacked are ok, heartened to see people going out of their way to help, I would have been terrified.

I love (well trained) dogs, but Bullys need to be banned. They are too powerful for a domestic setting. Does anyone know of any active petitions?

MixedTocopherols · 10/09/2023 10:52

Thank you to the pp who reposted the video but I had already watched it as I said above — it was more that I was trying to find a proper press report. There still doesn’t seem to be one. (I want to know if the man at the end is ok!)

Is it just not even unusual enough to be covered as news? When I google, I see loads of other articles about Birmingham dog attacks from the past several months. Seems really common. Awful

KnittedJimmyChoos · 10/09/2023 10:56

@ErmWhatever buy him the spray

Proper protection sports training does not involve a chase like that: the decoy (person in the padded suit) approaches the dog or handler.

You don't have to train some dogs to chase and bite. They want to do it.

Xrays · 10/09/2023 11:14

Can’t stand these fucking dogs. They need banning. Fed up with people defending the breed, you wouldn’t die from a Yorkshire terrier attacking you. It is a breed issue.

SeekingAnswers12 · 10/09/2023 11:18

That was really hard to watch. A child wouldn't have stood a chance in that situation.

hattie43 · 10/09/2023 11:30

I agree, his body language does not seem aggressive. He's playing a game he has been taught.

Grapesoda7 · 10/09/2023 11:42

These breeds seem to be everywhere in my city, often off leads.

Someone even had one in the Harvester the other day (on a lead mind)
