Mine is 20 years! Is that really bad? I'm wondering if it's actually really unhygienic but I wash towels regularly.

Over 23 years woolworths special still looks good

itsgettingweird · 10/09/2023 09:17

Oldest about 17 years.

But only because that's when I returned to this country with just my clothes and a few toys for ds.

I'm sure I'd have older if I hadn't thrown them all away!

Newest - our everyday use ones are about 5-6 years old.

DH is 63 and we have towels that his mum sewed in nametapes for him when he was at school. A few of our other towels are at least 50 and we have towels our kids had when they were younger so they are about 30.

I have 2 bath towels that were bought 2 houses ago so at least 35+ years old. I have plenty of other towels but I have these 2 in constant use. Visiting family use the white bath sheets but these 2 blue bath towels are my favourites. I noticed recently they are starting to show slight signs of wear and I’ll soon pass them on to my son for the dog 🐶

I was going to say 11 years which were what we got from our wedding but have just remembered I still have a beach towel from my childhood so that's 25-30 years

Jitterybugs · 10/09/2023 09:27

I’ve just remembered I also have a cute hooded baby towel in my supply for visiting pooches. My first born is now 45

johnworf · 10/09/2023 09:31

One that was a wedding present in 1984.

RoseMartha · 10/09/2023 09:35

My oldest towel is a beach towel from
M and S. It is about 35 years old.

andrainwillmaketheflowersgrow · 10/09/2023 09:42

About 25 years I would imagine. It's still in great condition. I think it was from Matalan.

converseandjeans · 10/09/2023 13:21

We have beach towels my parents bought early 1970s & other old towels. I think things were made to last longer back in the 70s and 80s.

Sahara123 · 10/09/2023 14:05

I have a 1950’s beach patterned one from my grandparents in law! It’s very retro now but I love it and it reminds me of them and another era. We’ve only ever used it as a beach towel for the last 35 years so not daily use .

Thank you I've loved reading all your towel stories

My oldest towel went off to university, graduated, then travelled for a year and then returned home and is yet to move out. My flannel took a similar route, with the addition of interrailing around Europe and now has a job as a bathroom cleaner. I can't remember what happened to my middle towel, but everyone overlooks the middle one, right?

Franticbutterfly · 10/09/2023 14:39

Almost 9 years old (given some from M&S for a wedding gift) I recently discovered a rip in one of the bath sheets.

MysteriousShopper · 10/09/2023 15:09

38 years!!! It was an engagement present when I was with my ex.

GalileoHumpkins · 10/09/2023 15:32

About a year, we replaced all our donkeys years old ones last year when we had a new bathroom fitted.

tuvamoodyson · 10/09/2023 15:33

31 years.

SpanishSummer · 10/09/2023 15:37

All of those of you with very old towels, do you also have much newer ones or do you just keep using the old ones?

We have a mix of towel ages in circulation, but I think the newest ones must be about 10 years old now.

Lunde · 10/09/2023 15:48

42 years - bought it in York market in 1981

I still have towels with a number label from when I had to spend three months in a rehab-hospital when I was 14 .

@User8743 Don't they stir up a lot of emotion?do you use them frequently or are they just in the back of the cupboard?

I haven’t bought new towels in several years but I do have a plentiful supply of good towels that my adult children and grandchildren use when they visit. I tend to stick with the 2 ancient 35+ years ones. One in use and one in the wash.

How can 1981 be FORTY TWO years ago?

1981 was 5 minutes ago!

70+. My grandmother’s kitchen roller towel from the 1950s. It’s very thin in places but is such a beautiful pattern I don’t want to stop using it.

Twospaniels · 10/09/2023 16:08

You know the baby towels with the hood in the corner? My daughter still uses hers to wrap her hair after washing it and she has just turned 29! She is expecting her own baby soon and was very excited to be given a couple of new baby hooded towels. I think she might use them herself!
