My worst thing is tarragon. It ruins everything on the plate for me.

It's a lighthearted thread, I didn't think I needed to give every detail of my dining experience to make it clear that I'm not a nightmare customer...

This is MN. YWBU for eating out at all, don’t you know we’re in a cost of living crisis, some people don’t even have a picture of a jalapeño to lick, OMG you’re such a jalapeñophobe, I bet the chef went home crying because you didn’t touch the jalapeños, ARE YOU HAPPY NOW?

Etc.

Eggs and tinned fish

user1477391263 · 08/09/2023 05:27

Mayonnaise. Raw onions.

Unfortunately, these are quite common, esp in sandwiches, so buying sandwiches is pretty hard for me.

TerfTalking · 08/09/2023 05:44

Cinnamon!

I still recall holidays in the US where I would forget their love of this filth and order a sweet potato or apple pie and weep when my food arrived.

Nothing makes me wretch more than the smell of a Churro stand.

Its ridiculous, and irrational, I know.

I agree with the chorizo poster too, it’s strong, greasy, fatty and I guess I’m not keen on Paprika either.

blackheartsgirl · 08/09/2023 05:44

Currants.

BeverleyMacker · 08/09/2023 05:51

Coriander 🤢

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 08/09/2023 05:58

Avocado. Squelchy , mushy mess

NoTeaNoShade · 08/09/2023 06:03

Agree with the cinnamon being in many foods in the US when I visit in laws, bleurgh. Poor DH he loves it so much, so I make him his very own pecan pie at thanksgiving and dust the whole lot off with a heaping of the stuff 😖

Courgettes (what's the point of them)
Olives (try as I might I can't like them and the briney flavour seeps into all that surrounds it)

rookiemere · 08/09/2023 06:08

Baked beans on a breakfast plate renders anything that has touched them indelible for me.

ArcticBells · 08/09/2023 06:09

Coriander (I'm in the 1% of people who find it tastes of soap)

notprincehamlet · 08/09/2023 06:36

Bay leaf. And anything sweet that's 'salted'.

MindPalace · 08/09/2023 06:43

cinnamon
almonds
honey
goat’s cheese
raisins in savoury food

DumpedByText · 08/09/2023 06:47

Celery, devils food I call it! 🤮

LightSpeeds · 08/09/2023 06:47

Squishy soggy pale sultanas 🤮

ThingsWithEyes · 08/09/2023 06:55

Dessicated coconut

Seiheiki · 08/09/2023 06:59

Truffle. Wrecked a meal out last night.
Swiftly followed by almond

Roomforactivites · 08/09/2023 07:00

Ginger in savoury dishes, cream cheese frosting and truffle.

I don’t eat certain meats and also have allergies to some fruits/veg but wouldn’t say they ruin a dish , I just avoid it completely

NowWhattt · 08/09/2023 07:01

Celery is utterly disgusting 🤢

crew2022 · 08/09/2023 07:02

Celery

SuperWomansHandBag · 08/09/2023 07:03

Truffle. Just no !!!

RampantIvy · 08/09/2023 07:04

I like nearly everything mentioned so far apart from truffles/truffle oil. I really loathe the taste.

I agree that the over use of cinnamon in the US nearly made me dislike it. We had a week in New England one fall and we got presented with sliced apples covered in heaps of cinnamon at breakfast after a week of cinnamon laced food. It was the final straw.

As for the vegetarian who hates vegetables - they must be overweight and constipated, and five years old.

My contribution is parsnip. Loathsome vegetable.

Ilmecourtsurleharicot · 08/09/2023 07:08

Loads of food that I really love is on this thread! I could eat coriander all day now but oddly only since being in my early 20s. Child or teen me was horrified by it. What crazy brain rewiring happened there?

Tarragon also used to give me the horrors too but now I can tolerate a small amount. But as an adult I will always reject nougat, Turkish delight, candied peel, those sorts of flavours and anything with blue cheese. I find shop bought Mayonnaise awful and would rather go hungry than eat it in a sandwich or a coleslaw. Some textures I find disgusting like claggy palm oil chocolate and have to quietly spit it out.

Over sweet is a bit of a ruiner for me in general although over salty isn’t really a worry, I can have a very high tolerance for that.

Rosejasmine · 08/09/2023 07:10

Mustard. Not mustard seeds in a salad dressing (I like that), but nasty smelly yellow mustard paste.

Justcallmebebes · 08/09/2023 07:12

Parsley. Can't stand it

Whattodo112222 · 08/09/2023 07:30

Mushrooms and coriander
