Neal

Oh yeah, d'uh. Like the baby

Ness's back story cracks me up every time. I'll bet someone has a list somewhere. My favourites are that she was in the original line up of All Saints but clashed with Shaznay and also used to be in Hear Say. Better still she was in a relationship with Dodi Alfayed in the late 90s then he suddenly ghosted her. The truck driving, speaking fluent Italian, all of it really just cracks me up

heartdog · 08/09/2023 08:25

I'm just making an omelette, dyou want one?

SoIinvictus · 08/09/2023 08:35

I agree with having to watch it more than once to get all the little comic bits from it.

Do we know at all what happened on the fishing trip?

minou123 · 08/09/2023 09:09

Smithy's speech on Curry night is the best

Lamb bhuna, chicken bhuna, prawn bhuna, keema naan, mushroom rice, bag of chips and nine poppadoms,.

         'And then we're just gonna...'

wow hang on. Why have we all gotta... why are we all just...?

"Because it's nice'.

No it's not, not for me, because I can guarantee somebody here, probably Stacey, has ordered a Korma. Am I wrong, Mick, am I wrong?

And that's pointless to me, it's futile, because I won't touch it, but I can guarantee that Pete is already thinking about my bhunas. Pete, have you thought about my bhunas?

Right, they're my bhunas, if you want a bhuna, order a bhuna.

I've had enough of this, it's the same as when I went out with Chinese and his missus last week, they're all digging into mine, going, 'Yours is really nice'. Yes it is, that's why I ordered it.
In fact forget it, I want no part of it. I'll order my own and eat it in the car.

SoIinvictus · 08/09/2023 09:15

And it's so true! 😂 What is it about a Chinese or Indian takeaway that makes people do that?

CocoPlum · 08/09/2023 09:19

@Yellowshirt I was trying to be vague not to spoil but ... Mick finds a dead body (not shown) and is interviewed on local news, everyone comes round to watch it. The whole scene cracks me up!

pumpkintits · 08/09/2023 09:23

"I'm sorry, It's Christmas. Please let me eat my dinner in peace the way Jesus would have wanted it, on his birthday"

This is one of my faves 😂 "it's not what you would expect on your way to work in the morning"

😂😂😂

I have no recollection of that episode at all?! If someone can tell me which one it is I'll go and watch it.
G&S has some of the best comedy characters ever. Pam and Mick are absolutely wonderful. I did think Nessa was fab, but for me the funniest thing was when Stacey or Bryn mentioned something weird or outrageous that Ness had done in a completely nonchalant matter of fact tone.
Just wonderful!

LauderSyme · 08/09/2023 09:57

I always figured that Gavin and Stacey themselves were the 'straight guys' of the show, being the foil for the outrageous characters around them.

I think we are supposed to infer that a physically intimate encounter occurred on the camping trip? Tbh that was the only long-running joke I found laboured.

Just looked and it’s series 2 episode 4.

Agree i watched it so many times before i clocked all the serial killer surnames.

"Good old Micheal Shipman!" 😂

TheGreenSketch · 08/09/2023 10:13

I loved Pam and Mick, but Stacey was so unpleasantly toxic.

whatsappdoc · 08/09/2023 10:13

The only thing that I thought was in poor taste was the surnames and even after listening to them explain why I think they misjudged their audience

Lovely inoffensive Pete’s surname being Sutcliffe too 😂

Sorry, @LovingMyLiver , dont read this as it has spoliers..

@flingoringo it's season 2 episode 4

Mick finding the dead body and being on the news was a small part of the episode. The main "story" was Gavin and Stacey start the house hunting and see that shitty little bedsit, with the shower in the kitchen.
Then Nessa comes to visit and they all go bowling.

Nessa and Smithy have that brilliant scene with the KFC.

The question is Smithy, do you want the corn on the cob?
Dont get me wrong. When I look at it there, all hot and dripping in butter, just.....inviting me in, I've got a real hankering for it. Like a real need

And in the back ground is the Bump n' Grind
🎵 my minds telling me no
but my body, my body is telling me yes
I don't wanna hurt nobody......

Louise303 · 08/09/2023 11:17

yes I remember that and the later she was talking about Eddie Stobart giving her a lorry which was hard to park.

poorbuthappy · 08/09/2023 12:26

1 of my fav bits is the ladies being stood in the toilets at the Italian and Gwen makes the comment about the safe word to Dawn after they've been dumped by their possible third. Stacey is aghast!!

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 08/09/2023 13:03

The KFC bit is one of the only bits I really hate. Also think the fishing trip thing ran its course. I liked it when it was vague but not when it was implied they did something sexual. They are uncle and nephew!

JamiesTurkeyTwizzler · 08/09/2023 13:30

The scene when G&S are upstairs in bed while the others are having breakfast. Pam trying to distract everyone by singing and her mortified face when the lyrics are 'Come, Come'.. cracks me up everytime.

BarborousBarbra · 08/09/2023 13:35

This is one of those shows everyone seems to love but I just can't stand. I find it totally cringe and annoying and James Corden, Enough said.

I completely agree about the KFC / Corn on the cob scene. It was grim.

TulipTuesday · 08/09/2023 13:59

I love the bit where Nessa asks Gwen for 2 AA batteries for ‘a bit of me time’ then later says she didn’t need them as she’s washing her 2 fingers in the kitchen sink 😆

Strokethefurrywall · 08/09/2023 14:02

I left the UK in 2007 and G&S is my absolute favorite comfort watching. It's so "of its time" that really makes me laugh.

The Christmas special is a must in my house, but the scene that lives in my head is when they go to the wedding fayre and Nessa walks out of the dressing room in PVC with a whip totally nonchalant.

Attendant: "oh Nessa, you look fabulous!"
Nessa: "I know. I feels it."

Absolute comedy gold.
