Escaped convict - Anyone else slightly fascinated by how he's escaping capture?

I don't know why but this has captured my imagination. Daniel Khalife escaped prison by clinging to the underside of a delivery van. Now I'm wondering when did he let go? Where did he hide? Is it like the fugitive where he hides in a hen house out house and steals a doctor's uniform from a hospital? Where would you hide if you had to? Where do you get food and water and shelter?

I reckon he walked into the nearest kebabery, fried chicken or independent fast food establishment. Not far to walk to find one of those in Wandsworth.

It's not like he had to escape off a Botel in Portland in a less urban, low density population....

jugggugg · 09/09/2023 06:00

It's not unusual to have an inmate escape Wandsworth prison, it's a bit of a mess!

Erdinger · 09/09/2023 06:01

I’m sure most prison escapes are an inside job rather than the escapee just getting lucky. Media reports are that it was possibly planned. His army training would also help him in remaining hidden. I’d be caught within a few seconds.

jugggugg · 09/09/2023 06:01

He’s a bright kid, and I don’t believe the bollocks they’re spouting, I think he probably discovered something more to do with them than him and they’re petrified it will get out

@PaulaTrilloe so his crimes were fabricated? why do you think that?

jugggugg · 09/09/2023 06:08

I don't really understand all the "his expertise will keep him hidden". He's 21 so not loads of experience & he's not ex SAS, SEALs, etc. Someone escaped from Wandsworth using a similar method a few yrs ago. Most likely he's been helped though.

PaulaTrilloe · 09/09/2023 06:32

@jugggugg I think you have mistakenly suggested that I think his "crime" was fabricated. I have no idea or opinions about that either way! 🙄

Viviennemary · 09/09/2023 06:40

It does sound a bit far fetched. Dressed as a chef. Like an episode from Porridge.

Lizzyinatizzy · 09/09/2023 06:40

If the theory of the Iranians helping him escape is true I don’t rate his chances. I reckon they’d be keen to silence him either after he’s told them what he knows or before he tells anybody about his involvement.

I think it was more likely one of his army mates who helped him.

Bemyclementine · 07/09/2023 13:37

Reminds me of the porridge episode with the football match..

That was a classic!

This govt are a bunch of utter incompetents though .

The escaped prisoner will have had outside help- without doubt.

jugggugg · 09/09/2023 06:46

@PaulaTrilloe Nope, my mistake was to confuse you with @Palmasailor!

Rockandchips · 09/09/2023 07:04

I know its bad and he shouldnt have been able to escape in this day and age but Im picture him in a stripey suit and hat holding the ball and chain running across the moors while the blood hounds are chasing him.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 09/09/2023 07:04

There's was a guy on lbs earlier who had been in Wandsworth multiple times. He said it had to be an inside job as the food vans come into a cage area unload all their stuff then leave. The prisoners are not allowed in that area until the van has gone and the gates shut so in theory the prisoners and the van should never be in the same place at the same time.

its crazy that they are asking the public so much
and crazy that he was in the british army!

Agree - so what's the real reason for so much fuss about this one?

Beaverbridge · 09/09/2023 07:12

Quote on the news just now. The hunt is moving to "a dynamic and fast end". Meanwhile outside Scotland Yard police asking him to give himself up!.

Willmafrockfit · 09/09/2023 07:18

£20,000 reward offered
he seems so young

jugggugg · 09/09/2023 07:18

@SquirmOfEels He was a computer bod wasn't he? Lots of sensitive, compromising info, threat to national security etc I assume.

Willmafrockfit · 09/09/2023 07:19

in the army since the age of 17

Why crazy? You get all sorts!

He joined post-GCSE so would have been only 16/17, and was arrested early last year. So wasn't in for very long and approximately half of that would have been under 18. Very junior soldiers of the Royal Signals won't be getting advanced SERE training.

I don't know why his military background is being played up so much - unless it's an attempt to send a message to others that only the "trained" stand any chance of getting out like he did (which rather begs the question, how did he do it - does it mean there is a security weakness the prison management know about and don't want every prisoner having a go at?)

Willmafrockfit · 09/09/2023 07:19

it is a minor offence he committed

Wildhorses2244 · 09/09/2023 07:23

It’s fascinating, thinking about how you would do it and where you would go.

I think if it was me escaping I would have made it a priority to have some money with me. Enough to shave my head, buy a suit and get a train to a city where I have no connection. So a risky hour whilst I got that done but pretty safe after that.

I reckon suit and sunglasses would be the best disguise - it’s a pretty “invisible “ uniform and one that wouldn’t be expected. As a woman I’d go for work clothes with headscarf and sunglasses.

Then call a friend from a pay phone and get them to book me 2 weeks in a pretty anonymous premier inn. Go out enough to not cause suspicion but stay in as much as possible. Don’t try to go abroad until the search is stepped down - a month or so maybe

jugggugg · 09/09/2023 07:23

Robbie biggs escaped Wandsworth with a rope ladder! I grew up not far & too many escapees is why I never looked at houses that were close. Be worried about leaving the back door open! 😆

jugggugg · 09/09/2023 07:23

Then call a friend from a pay phone

Not many of these around!

i agree, of course they are,
saying how the british army has the best training
