Escaped convict - Anyone else slightly fascinated by how he's escaping capture?

I don't know why but this has captured my imagination. Daniel Khalife escaped prison by clinging to the underside of a delivery van. Now I'm wondering when did he let go? Where did he hide? Is it like the fugitive where he hides in a hen house out house and steals a doctor's uniform from a hospital? Where would you hide if you had to? Where do you get food and water and shelter?

He's ex army, he knows what he's doing. He's been trained to avoid capture. He'll be lying low during the day and moving about at night. That's if he's still in the country and didn't get out that first day.

His associates will be being watched, his family are being watched.

youngestisapsycho · 09/09/2023 11:31

He called his mum… so the police told friend on houseboat 🤷🏼‍♀️

He literally has not been trained to avoid capture. Jaysus tonight. This thread.

I have been in the Army and worked in prisons for many years especially with young men. I may be wrong but I think he’s just a squaddie who has got out of his depth - bit of a show off- he was on remand so who knows what would come out in court. I can just imagine him boasting in the kitchens about being in the army and the men egging him on and he just made a spur of th3 moment action that he never in a 100 years would happen. He is probably wandering round London scared sh1tless and will eventually hand himself in. I feel sorry for some of the prison staff who are going to be blamed - the complete underfunding and stresses of working in prisons is criminal in itself. I think the govt are making him seem a lot more than he is to hide their embarrassment - and glad it’s taken the publics attention away from concrete………but what do I know

Willmafrockfit · 09/09/2023 11:40

i agree with you @Theyneveraskedme
except what were the fake bombs all about?
showing off?

SaltySeaCat · 09/09/2023 11:42

He’s been captured!

Paul2023 · 09/09/2023 11:45

Theyneveraksedme- I agree with you to an extent. I don’t think he’s a major terrorist and someone on tv yesterday said something like he’s not really a risk to the public.

It’s embarrassing for the Prison losing a prisoner. I totally agree that prisons are underfunded and understaffed but I can’t see anything changing soon. No one really wants to spend tax payers money on prisons and not many people want to stay in the job.

However , it was the prisons fault that a prisoner escaped. He left through the kitchen door, strapped himself under a food delivery truck and went out via the gate.
Someone has to be accountable for that. Vehicles are supposed to be checked both entering and leaving a prison.

I speak as an ex soldier and someone who worked briefly in a prison.

madamepopov · 09/09/2023 11:47

Ah, he's been found. Am actually a bit disappointed!

Having been both in the army (17 years) and in prison (3months), this thread is making me laugh and roll me eyes in equal measure.

SERE is literally a video designed to stop us embarrassing ourselves like we did when the Navy soldiers got captured by the Iranians. It’s like Boy Scout level survival. Unless your man escaped with a clear plastic bag and a mirror, and he is TRYING to be found by the police, it will be no use to him at all.

He won’t have special skills from being in the signals.

I would be amazed if he has any genuine “national secrets” which are useful to Iran and information about his colleagues from JPA is probably less useful than a trawl on Facebook.

Colchester is a military prison for military personnel convicted in military courts.
The army can immediately discharge anyone charged with a civilian criminal offence (like immediately) and I suspect this is what happened to this lad.

Whoever said prison escapes happen all the time is just fearmongering. Absconding from an open prison (i.e. not returning by curfew) is very different from escaping from prison. And whoever said they used to hear escaped prisoners scampering across their roof wants to get a job writing for the DM.

It's only the past few years its been delivered online, I agree though that he won't have any particular survival skills beyond very basic and specific skills that won't be much use in urban areas. People don't tend to put their addresses on Facebook do they. Whilst I don't buy at all that he's particularly dangerous or some super important spy who's risking national security, there are details he could have been sharing which would be of interest to a country like Iran; especially because of the unit he was in.

daisychain01 · 09/09/2023 11:48

He has been captured and detained at about 11am in Chiswick which is only a stone's throw from Wandsworth Prison, so he hardly got very far and certainly nowhere near the predictions of him winging his way out of the U.K. and onto the Continent.

hopefully they will move him to a high security Prison and stop him from wasting everyone's time. Scrote

EmpressSisi · 09/09/2023 11:49

Found in Chiswick 🤣

Brilliant

Good job

Willmafrockfit · 09/09/2023 11:51

he will definitely move to a more secure prison

daisychain01 · 09/09/2023 11:51

I agree @Hanlonsamazer the whole thing was massively overstated and hyped. Glad he's back behind bars.

jugggugg · 09/09/2023 11:54

I love that posters thought he would already have made it abroad! He's 21 & not Jason Bourne!

Kissmas · 09/09/2023 11:55

They've got him. He didn't go far 🤣

😆 I think many will feel this we like drama and someone sticking it to authorities

Would be completely different if he was a sex offender

this is an embarrassment more than anything and he shall now been seen as heroic to many

Not really a terroist could be bad if they blow something up

Not that this one is definitely that but could be

megletthesecond · 09/09/2023 12:00

So he wasn't in Iran then 😳.
Excellent job by the police.

fioritura · 09/09/2023 12:01

Oh ffs Daniel, we were all rooting for you! 😂

EasternStandard · 09/09/2023 12:03

Someone said with confidence that he would be caught the other day

They probably had more intel on likelihood
