What’s your smallest fear?

Mimmy352 · 06/09/2023 19:29

We all know the common biggest fears: Dying, losing loved ones, spiders, etc

But what’s your smallest fear? The type of fear that has no bearing on your life other than being this strange little thing you worry about/dislike?

Mine is fish, and fish tanks. Why? Because there’s no such thing as a clean fish. They swim around in water and form that weird little congealed coating that being in water too long creates, and once they enter a fish tank, that fish tank is never clean again - no matter how hard you try. I hate fish.

I do, however, love sushi

Leaning on rails and them giving way sending me plummeting

All sharp knives must be put away in the drawers overnight in case a madman comes and murders us with them (madmen apparently don't know how to open cutlery drawers).

KaarijasBowlCut · 06/09/2023 23:48

Stinky hands from touching keys.

Not getting a space in my preferred work car park when I need to work on site. Plenty of other options but it just feels like a good start to the day.

Unmatched pegs on the washing line - a coloured plastic one and a wooden one on the same item of clothing? No!

The postie leaving the gate a bit open.

DH not emptying the metal plughole catcher thing in the kitchen sink every time a single crumb goes in it. Blergh.

Being properly thirsty with no access to water or any other drink.

Being on the motorway in one of those rapidly slowing-down lanes and realising that it's now closed, so we're all fenced in between two junctions.

Washing up bowls where everything gets a dip in soapy water, a rub down, and dried on a tea towel.

Irrational feeling that you will drop something precious.
Oh, and wasps. Everyone laughs.

I don't! European wasps we have in Australia are scary buggers.

That I will bite wool, even thinking about it makes my teeth on edge. I mean like if I'm wearing a wooly scarf or I snuggle under a wool blanket.

Yes! This is a fear I have but haven't even recognised.

Also can't stand the dried bits of ketchup around the lid/bottle opening. If it touches my hand I have to scrub.

Dropping my keys or phone down a drain. Never done it but I get so paranoid and have to hang on to my things if I walk over one.

I have dropped car keys down a drain, it's a very valid and ever-present fear of mine!

SwedishEdith · 07/09/2023 00:01

Crossing tramlines or level crossings, I always worry my heel will get stuck and I can't escape. I don't wear heels.

Same re the ice skating and imagining your fingers being sliced off. I've not been ice skating for over 30 years.

SwedishEdith · 07/09/2023 00:04

Driving behind a scaffolding truck and imagining it braking suddenly and being killed by scaffold impalement in my car.

Bookworm12345 · 07/09/2023 00:09

Overtaking a high-sided lorry on a dual-carriageway/motorway on a windy day 😳 Had one get blown into my lane one time and it still scares me now.

Also, I hate following car transporters in case the cars start to roll off! Highly unlikely, but still....

Omg, that had never crossed my mind but eurghhhhhh

TomatoSandwiches · 07/09/2023 00:11

Gristle, I never fully enjoy a meal made with minced beef because I'm waiting to chomp on a bit of gristle 🤢

Catsmere · 07/09/2023 00:18

Gristle is the worst. That squashy crunch as it just doesn’t break up. Always have to spit it out before I gag.

BlackberryCrumbs · 07/09/2023 00:20

Basically everything I've seen on Final Destination films 😂😂

Can't get in a lift without having a flash of my head getting stuck and being crushed to death (I step through doors super quick).

Can't drive behind a truck with poles or logs on.

Can't bring myself to go on a roller coaster nowadays.

catnipevergreen · 07/09/2023 01:17

Losing my glasses in a disaster - I'd be f@card as I can't see a bloody thing

artishard · 07/09/2023 01:22

A massive pubey chin hair and no tweezers to be found!

YesIReallyDoLikeRootBeer · 07/09/2023 01:23

Komodo Dragons.
They terrify me, but realistically what are the odds I'm ever going to run into one in the wild

CallieQ · 07/09/2023 01:37

Small lifts and very long escalators Confused

whoisjoe · 07/09/2023 01:39

I have general anxiety disorder so my list is of small fears are MASSIVE 😆
today :
I suddenly worried that I had my leggings on inside out at the shops

I’d choke or have a coughing fit in a large meeting

have a bogey flapping around unknowingly

did I turn off the iron etc

did I just run a red light and not realise

start walking abnormally when people are watching 😂

I have done this with my keys - now I walk around drains!

whoisjoe · 07/09/2023 01:41

@artishard same! Actually need to keep tweezers in the car - car mirrors are excellent for showing up chin pubes

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 07/09/2023 01:43

Slugs.
I'm convinced they'll speed up and chase me, I'm absolutely terrified of them.

I dont drive, but that's a good a reason as any to start! Chin hairs are conniving little buggers!

Oh God, this too for me. I think I was traumatised by an Attenborough where they poisoned and then stalked a buffalo (I think?)

I still loudly proclaim the fact that they can run, swim AND climb trees as the most terrifying apex predators that ever existed... komodo island being the most horrifying piece of land in existence in my mind!

Your post should have come with a trigger warning 😂
