What’s your smallest fear?

We all know the common biggest fears: Dying, losing loved ones, spiders, etc

But what’s your smallest fear? The type of fear that has no bearing on your life other than being this strange little thing you worry about/dislike?

Mine is fish, and fish tanks. Why? Because there’s no such thing as a clean fish. They swim around in water and form that weird little congealed coating that being in water too long creates, and once they enter a fish tank, that fish tank is never clean again - no matter how hard you try. I hate fish.

I do, however, love sushi

Walking across suspended floors and them moving - happens in our old cottage, in Ikea, in H&M! I don’t want to feel floors moving thanks - I cannot get over the fear that they will collapse!

Oddly am fine with suspended bridges as I expect it to move.

OK great now I have 120 small fears 😁

Agreed, the only thing I used to worry about was whether or not there was enough milk in the fridge, but since reading this thread, I've developed a whole host of tiny neuroses. 😂

Ketchup. Everything about it. The look, the smell, the way it congeals, the noises it makes in a bottle. Nasty stuff. I dont even like it coming in contact with me.

The ceiling falling in. At home if anyone is walking around upstairs i worry that they will come down through the ceiling, expecially my son, who is rather heavy. I was in a restaurant today and I couldn't take my eye off a beam on the ceiling, it had a crack in it and I was convinced it was going to collapse.

😂, this is the opposite to mine, which is fear of falling down through the floor.

I also make sure the Alexa is unplugged at night. Incase a ghost requests something.

Oh, also when going down stairs that I will miss a step and tumble down them and smash my teeth. It’s especially bad on concrete or stone stairs. I have bendy joints plus I’m clumsy too so it might be a valid concern tbf…

Touching cash machine buttons. They never get washed (in my head anyway).

I bend my fingers and use the knuckle to tap instead of the ends of my fingers like a normal person.

I actually had to wait to use the cash point yesterday because it was being cleaned! It was one on the outside of the bank and a bank employee was spraying and wiping it

Wearing a maxi dress and a wasp getting stuck up it

Actually happened to me! Thankfully I was wearing a petticoat underneath as I threw the skirt bit of the dress up. It stung me on my stomach and boy did it hurt. I even swore in front of my mum (I was early 20s and never swore in front of my parents, and this was the F word!)

My small fears are dropping my phone or my glasses over the edge of a railing when at a harbour.
Tripping and falling downstairs.
Being out of control in public ie fainting or collapsing
Having a fly or an ivy bee going in my ear when we are out near ivy covered hedges & fences

SwedishEdith · 07/09/2023 18:09

Actually, harbours are scary. Full of trip hazards near water and that sound of the rope hitting the flagpole. Anything abandoned - factories and boats. Where did the people go?

All sharp knives must be put away in the drawers overnight in case a madman comes and murders us with them (madmen apparently don't know how to open cutlery drawers).

Same

ElizaWinter · 07/09/2023 18:21

I want one of those movement sensor outdoor lights but I'm worried it will go off in the night and I'll think a madman is in the garden.

I feel the same about having a house alarm fitted. What if it goes off in the middle of the night because a spider crawled over it or something innocent, I'd be trembling upstairs thinking there was someone coming to get me.

Crunchymum · 07/09/2023 19:13

Saw the Komodo dragon at London Zoo recently. He seemed quite innocuous until I read what they eat in the wild (snakes, crocodiles, buffalo!!) then I noticed the claws and suddenly it was eyeballing me. It was a bit of a "dur dur dur" moment.

I have a fear about creatures getting into ears. It's all DC1's fault. He woke one night after having a dream something had crawled into his ear so we had a look and I assured him it was just a dream. A few weeks later he ended up with his first ever ear infection. Turned out to just be coincidence (he did see the GP as it was painful and oozing and the GP had a thorough look his ear canal when I discreetly mentioned the dream. I half expected the GP to get tweezers out and pull out some nasty bug but she didn't, it was just conventional antibiotics that cleared his ear up!) This was years ago and there was no further ear / bug related drama but it's remained an irrational fear of mine.

I had no idea that this was a thing other people worried about! I feel heard 😁
