Having read the whole of the previous thread the one that gets me is the lady murdered in broad daylight in a busy swimming pool carpark. How? How can no body have been caught? How can someone covered in blood have got away without being seen and never been caught. It’s awful. Her poor children

HuwEdwardsBottom · 05/09/2023 15:27

On the last thread Trevaline Edwards was mentioned. Well I live fairly near Llangollen where she went missing and was told years ago that the police knew exactly what had happened to her and who was responsible but didn’t have enough evidence to pursue a case.

subolooo · 05/09/2023 15:40

I've only just found this thread so reading through the first and following this one as things like this fascinate me.

BusyBees1234 · 05/09/2023 15:54

Peter Falconio is an interesting one

I think the girlfriend has always known more than she's let on

SemperIdem · 05/09/2023 16:04

@HuwEdwardsBottom

I wonder if that is the case for a fair few of the cases discussed, that the authorities all but know exactly who was involved but simply do not have the evidence to pursue it. So the cases remain officially unsolved forever.

HuwEdwardsBottom · 05/09/2023 16:09

@SemperIdem yes. See also Claudia Lawrence.

Canada's Highway of Tears.

"The exact number of women who have disappeared or been murdered along Highway 16 is disputed. The RCMP acknowledges 18 murders and disappearances in its list of Highway of Tears cases, dating from 1969 to 2006 (the RCMP also include women who have disappeared from Highways 97 and 5 in British Columbia). Ten of these 18 victims are Indigenous women and girls. However, Indigenous groups argue that this number is misleading because it reflects only the disappearances and murders that have happened in the specific geographic areas around these highways and that the real number in Northern British Columbia exceeds 40. According to Human Rights Watch — an international non-governmental organization that conducts research and advocacy on human rights — British Columbia has the highest rate of unsolved murders of Indigenous women and girls in Canada."

Sara Payne was found quite close to where I lived back in the 90s and apparently the police pretty much knew who had done this from day 1. It just took some time to gather the evidence but the police often know so much more than is let on.

I just thought of another, supposedly 'solved, not really scary, just sad.': "Little Miss 1565" aka "The Day the Clown Cried".

Although she's supposedly been identified I'm not so sure. There are discrepancies in the description of the remains vs Eleanor Cook. DNA testing was unsuccessful.

I’m sure there was a podcast or documentary on this a few years ago I think this is it https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p04tqcby Really sad.

BBC Three - Stacey Dooley, Investigates, Canada's Lost Girls

Reporting on the disappearance or murder of hundreds of Canadian women and girls.

Madness in the fast lane - weren't the 2 sisters on the run from the Garda? Never been convinced that chap was killed by the one with him either.

Whether there's any truth to Trance-formation of America (Cath o' Brien's story).

Someone mentioned Melanie Hall on the original thread, this one for me. Not far away, disappeared from town centre nightclub, remains found many years later by the motorway junction (10 or so miles away).

On a lighter note, love lots of mysterious/paranormal stuff... time-slips fascinate me (even though they're probably not real).

gillygeey · 05/09/2023 18:28

but the police often know so much more than is let on.

Of course! Why would they reveal everything?

AcrossthePond55 · 05/09/2023 18:38

@Crochetablanket

Thanks for the link. There have been a few docs on the CA Highway of Tears and also on the vast number of First Nations/Indigenous women who have 'gone missing' in both the US and Canada in other locales. The number is huge and the cavalier way law enforcement handles these cases (in both countries) is abhorrent.

I have loved reading the entirety of thread 1. It has really creeped me out at times though and I shouldn't keep reading before bed! I have two questions though:

  1. Why do people keep mentioning Peter Falconio? Of all the mysteries, his seems the most cut and dried. Perpetrator DNA found on gear stick and handcuffs?
  2. Can people recommend documentaries? I've seen more than 1 MM documentary, watched the YouTube Surrey schoolgirl one from the previous thread, currently watching the Nicola Payne one on Prime, but are there any on the Panama girls, or Andrew Gosden or that Russian one etc etc?

That's certainly the case for Mary Boyle

@ChildrenOfTheQuorn There are plenty on YouTube. I've watched several about Kris and Lisanne and read lots on the subreddit unresolvedmysteries too.

Someone on the subreddit linked to a panorama created by the nighttime photos that shows the were possibly taken by someone standing in the middle and turning and snapping another photo every 10 seconds or so. One of the images show their torn map or similar laid out on a rock and it was mentioned the paper may spell out SOS (you can kind of tell, the first S is the clearest I think) and the bottom of the crisps tube was there for reflection. Someone mentions these photos were from the same night people were out looking for them and were perhaps letting off flares, so potentially the girls were aware there were people and tried to photograph their location/use the camera flash in all directions to try to gain some attention.

It certainly makes sense in my head. I believe Kris died first, perhaps after a fall, and Lisanne carried on for a few days after that. It's just one of many very sad cases.

Please could someone PM me a link to the thread from a while ago where a someone posted about their experience of being a missing person (or rather leaving their former life to start a new life)? I remember reading it at the time and found the perspectives on there really fascinating - I can't for the life of me find it now despite spending a while searching. Thank you!

Some heartbreaking stories on here and the first thread Sad

I had hoped the mystery of who killed Stuart Lubbock would have been revealed before his father died a few years ago. His poor father was a broken man trying to get justice for his son.

The men that were there that night at Michael Barrymore's house must know more than they have let on. I think that they are all covering up for each other Angry

RIP all those poor souls who have died in mysterious circumstances.

There is a report today in the Australia section of the DM about the court case of William Tyrell's Foster parents and the abuse of another child in their care. (Possibly William's sister)
