Ooh one more. Monaco. WTF do people see in it? Just of grubby looking apartment blocks and roadworks when I was there 🤷🏻‍♀️

Goldcircle · 04/09/2023 19:55

Domincan Republic, dangerous and seaweed riddled beaches
jamaica, dangerous

Msbluebozooka · 04/09/2023 19:55

Hollywood that’s a shit too

South of France.... horrible place unless you're very rich.

That's like saying the whole of England. Which to be fair, is a clusterfuck of a shit show right now.

Oh yes Monaco. I’ve been twice and it’s really underwhelming. Too built up and lots of noisy traffic (and that’s not even the F1).

Montasaurus · 04/09/2023 19:58

Dublin. Positano.

Both overhyped. Expensive. Not my idea of a good time.

FettleOfKish · 04/09/2023 19:58

Interested to know what you didn't like about the Algarve @RhymesWithTangerine, as we went for the first time this year and I was both pleasantly and unpleasantly surprised by different things Grin

ZeroFucksGivenToday · 04/09/2023 20:01

Manchester Christmas market! Was sucked in by the hype. It was awful, stalls nowhere near each other, didn't feel remotely Christmassy. Just rubbish.

aintnospringchicken · 04/09/2023 20:03

Las Vegas

stbrandonsboat · 04/09/2023 20:04

North Wales. It was about as much fun as Sunderland.

Bongosbanjo · 04/09/2023 20:05

London was okish out at Greenwich but rest of it very unfriendly. Impossible to navigate without getting stressed and or lost. Best was Dundee, locals couldn't have friendlier, very easy to wander around. Dundee also has something for everyone.

minipie · 04/09/2023 20:10

So much depends on your own personal trip circumstances and choices.

I loved Barcelona because we went with a healthy budget and sought out fab little bars and restaurants. On a shoestring I might have have hated it, it’s not a especially pretty city to just wander, and I wouldn’t have been able to afford lots of the nightlife.

I didn’t enjoy Florence because we went in January and I stupidly only took a thin cotton coat. And we tried ticking off allll the galleries so I got Madonna and Child fatigue… should have broken it up more.

I didn’t love Barbados but it would be unfair to judge the whole place as I only saw one resort and one beach.

Loved Paris, Rome, Marrakech … I even enjoyed San Francisco, though this was 20 years ago.

Monaco isn’t really seen as a tourist destination is it? It’s a tax haven so not surprising it’s just a bunch of high rises and fiendishly expensive restaurants.

I might not bother with Bali based on this thread…

Meltinthemiddle · 04/09/2023 20:11

Wasn't a fan of Liverpool either

Cornwall (in the summer) - over priced hotel, ridiculously busy, inconsistent weather with a definite tendency to rain and be cold/overcast and not much to do if the weather isn't good. I won't spend my fortnight's summer holiday like that again!

Fink · 04/09/2023 20:13

I agree with the pp who said Rome isn't at its best in July. Some of these places named above, especially the Italian and French cities, are fabulous in spring and autumn but not great to trek around when it's over 40° and rammed. I know they won't be to everyone's taste, but I still think you might not have seen them to the best advantage.

Having said that, I do love a good Madonna and Child painting and would happily spend an entire day looking at them!

I didn't like Dubai much, but it's not the sort of place I would usually choose to go on holiday anyway, I only went to visit family, so I wasn't overly disappointed. It met my (low) expectations.

Croatia

DontLeanOnTheKeyboard · 04/09/2023 20:14

Paris. Too big and too expensive. One thing I love about France is good food and anything accessible without prior knowledge is crappy overpriced tourist rubbish.

TheaBrandt · 04/09/2023 20:14

Really baffled by the number saying Paris. We’ve been with the kids 3 times now and they are asking to go again. It’s a great city to visit especially with teens into fashion. What are you all not liking about it?!

FirstFallopians · 04/09/2023 20:15

The Giant’s Causeway.

I always cringe when people ask about things to do in NI and others suggest there. It’s a semi-interesting coastline and an overpriced visitor centre, in the arse-end of nowhere.

Close runners up are the Cliffs of Moher and the Guinness Factory.

This thread is bordering on a farce tbh. Who goes to Las Vegas and claims it’s ‘tacky’ so they don’t like it. That’s kind of the point of Las Vegas. Surely if you say that then the problem is you?

I enjoyed my longish holiday to Australia, but found it quite underwhelming as a whole country. I saw quite a lot of it, so feel like I can make that assessment on Brisbane - Sydney, Melbourne, Tasmania, Adelaide and Perth. The cities had a little bit of a dated feel and were nothing particularly special (including Melbourne which everyone I know raves about!) and although some of the beaches are lovely, so are the ones in Cornwall (although also an arse to get to most of the time). There was barely any people in bloody Tasmania!, the weather was INSANE and everything was SO expensive. And I live in London, so I’m used to being ripped off. Also no offence lads, but the Australian music and culture scene is not it. Everyone was mad for Ed Sheeran when I was there. And that was it.

Kangroos are fucking brilliant though. There’s loads to like about Australia but I wasn’t as enchanted as I thought I would be. I was glad to be home and had absolutely no desire to move to the other side of the world to live there!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 04/09/2023 20:16

Paris- I don’t get peoples (Americans) obsession

Malibu- zero glamour!

Katmai · 04/09/2023 20:16

Cambridge.
